Indeed. I’m interested to see how this is actually implemented long term, as I can’t imagine they’ve created an entire system to gate progression only to make it so progression isn’t… gated?
If it’s anything like how keys are implemented in Genshin Impact, Their primary function would be to slow players down to promote longer-term engagement. A full 50 hour campaign can be beaten in a few days, which will cause players to leave sooner than the dev would like. Additionally, If players complete story contact gradually, gives the dev time to release more story content without the players losing interest too quickly.

I don't believe there is, no. It seems more akin to Triangle Strategy, where each character has a class and you can customize them from that baseline with a set of abilities you choose from for that class.

I haven't seen any mid battle recruits, tho there are NPCs that will fight alongside you. You have a whole town you visit and use when not in battle. No support conversations that I've seen, nor any romance. It's quite different from UO, much closer to Tactics Ogre and FFT than Ogre Battle or UO.

Interesting 2 side of mode, i don’t really like gacha overall bcs of i want to play the character but gated by gacha and taking lot of time to farm 1 character, the story mode is interesting one gated by keys, hopefully this keys is f2p friendly, idk why they don’t go like HsR route, no need to gate story by keys(if things go south they can gate it with money)
this si gacha..games like this ruin.the fun for me..if they can make alchemist code run on ps5 or xbox offline no gacha they can make money on it.and the game has the best story wasted on gacha and online
hear me out; leveling-up and upgrades are often a place where Gotcha game exploit players for money. Also, at times leveling-up and upgrades are the solution to winning and not actual game-play strategy. I'm starting to think I don't want leveling-up and upgrades in a tactic game
The thing is, there's literally zero connection to any paid boosts or anything in the campaign it's exclusively standard leveling. Looking at the online Gatcha side, different story, but my focus is the campaign so I'm not too worried about it.
They are completely separate, so much that how you build your characters use completely different systems. On the gacha side you have a simple tech tree. In the single player you either get them from certain quests or you have a training yard where you choose between actual skills (reactive, passive or active) or a different set of passive skills. In the gacha you choose which weapon you equip on a unit and you choose to raise the weapon's level and break its level etc. in the single player there is none of that. You can craft weapons in the forge or get from a quest, but there is no upgrading them.
As long as the game is good and the required investment to play it through 3 times is less than 60 dollars I will be happy. If I am getting quality time out of something the creators deserve compensation, regardless of media. Even if that means typing out a rambling comment durring a set of UA-cam ads. 😊
I do enjoy turn based games. but I do not like the business model doesn't really suit this game at all. only game that would really rival this game would have been the Shining Force Remake, but after the devs received backlash for implementing a similar gacha business model and having their own issues within their company they decided to cancel it.

No one makes a free to play game without it trying to dive into your wallet whole hog. I don’t care how pretty or how innocuous it looks or feels. The gacha mechanics aren’t lying when it says “Gotcha!”. I’ll pass personally. I only pay for my games once and done. The rest of you guys can do whatever you like. Flowery words mean nothing when my money is concerned.
Just because they are trying to dive into your wallet doesn't mean you have to let them. Personally I get a ton of enjoyment out of these free games at the expense of others who do want to pay.
Sword of Convo is a big disappointment. It's a free to play gacha game that's built like a mobile game. A lot of people were very unhappy about this, but we were told the gacha mechanics would not interfere if you just wanted to play through the story. After playing the demo, this is clearly not the case. The gacha store and mechanics are in your face from the beginning. Basically, you play a few scenes from the "story", then get dumped into your standard mobile gacha front end interface. An over world map which is just a series of points representing maps that you have to play repeatedly to clear with different ratings. You get your new characters strictly from the gacha mechanic, that is, if you only want to play the story, you must use the gacha store, there is no in story recruiting shop or guild. Just standard east asian gambling monetization. I uninstalled it. Too bad, it could have been a gem.

Gacha games will always optimize for dollars per user instead of fun per play session. I'm gonna pass. Theres plenty of fun to be had on this earth without supporting unethical business models.
This game makes me sad, and this new information makes me even less interested in it. If there is truly no reason to participate in the gacha, then why is it there? I’d rather they charge for a full single player game with no gacha and put all their efforts into that instead of splitting it. The poor dialog and small party size are also marks against it in my book.
Yeah I'll continue watching but, hearing gacha is a GIANT GIANT red flag. We'll see what else he has to say but, I'm not optimistic. Gacha is a plague.

I just can't get past the art style. Every single design looks like a fan art copy of a copy of a character from a more famous game.
Hey bud! I am glad u been doing well. I am excited to ur coverage on this game. Hope the best for u
this has been on my wishlist for awhile
When does the game open?
31st July (America time).
Will play. Look beautiful.
Wait so the single player campaign is no gacha ? That’s a good balance
It's more like gacha-optional, plus it has endurance to throttle your progression. (Unless you are willing to pay, of course.)
YOU ARE AWESOME! ❤❤❤
Tactis Ogre : Reborn has just too much quality content for me to care about any other tactical RPG other than a potential Final Fantasy Tactics Remake/Remaster
....what an odd way to go about things. This one may not be much but there's a million great tactics games out there old and upcoming. Why deny yourself?
@@FLIK510 I'm just still not done with TO:R is all
I have played the demo to death already. I keep trying to argue with the anti-gacha hate mob in the message boards too.
Glad to know it is finally getting released. been hyped for the past few months. Hopefully the monetization is not too egregious, Like tower of fantasy or Genshin....
Jeez sorry dude, so many toxic people in the comments already 😔
Fwiw, it's always nice to see you hyped about new games. Looking forward to more content on the game as it nears its launch, and then post launch too if you're enjoying it!
Oh it's all good, I expected it. Really I'm just hoping that I can clarify the whole deal with the single player so people who might have been turned off of it give it a shot.
And yeah, I'm hoping I can make a much of content about it. Fingers crossed!
In either story mode is there a limit to how many characters you can recruit
@@michaelmarks161 I haven't seen an upper limit yet.
@@TitaniumLegman thank you for your reply
@@michaelmarks161 any time! 👍
OOH this game looks good
Can't wait to get started streaming this later this month!
I've been streaming Octopath CotC for about 1.5 years now, and there's definitely folks out there looking for gacha content to consume (both in vod and live stream formats). Usually there's spenders making content, which is nice for me cuz there's plenty of people wanting to consume f2p content too :)
Finally, UA-camrs giving atention to SoC, this niche game needs to grow!

I mean get that bag but nobody is going to touch it
@@zipperman6045 I sincerely don't think that's true, but you do you brother.
@@TitaniumLegmanI just personally don't feel like endorsing half of a game which will be subsidized by gambling when I've got a backlog of actual games right
That's fine, my point is just that there are a lot of people who are looking to play, that's all.
For those who hate gacha and are downplaying the single player part, I have a question for you:
How many hours of fun would it take for you to spend 20 bucks on a game?
Depends on the quality of fun. I don't think it comes down to dollars per hour. Put to guess a number... 40 hours? I dunno.
Does it have autoplay?
I haven't seen an option for it.
It does, yes, at least for the resource grinding stages.
@@RusyChicken it does, its the A/M button on top left hand. A = Auto and M = Manual.
Hmmm... Tactics ogre/Triangle strategy set the bar real high for this genre....
Definitely dropping WOTV for this
Interesting 2 side of mode, i don’t really like gacha overall bcs of i want to play the character but gated by gacha and taking lot of time to farm 1 character, the story mode is interesting one gated by keys, hopefully this keys is f2p friendly, idk why they don’t go like HsR route, no need to gate story by keys(if things go south they can gate it with money)
This thing is a Gacha?
If so, hard pass.
@@FabschOblivion669 it's two modes. One is online gacha, one is a single player traditional campaign w/some roguelike stuff.
I hope this game is f2p friendly like HSR or Wuthering Waves
this si gacha..games like this ruin.the fun for me..if they can make alchemist code run on ps5 or xbox offline no gacha they can make money on it.and the game has the best story wasted on gacha and online
hear me out; leveling-up and upgrades are often a place where Gotcha game exploit players for money.
Just look at Fire Emblem Heroes and how fuck-awful that game is vs other games in that franchise.
Is good game but after hear gatcha 100% after 1 month this game will not balance
As long as the game is good and the required investment to play it through 3 times is less than 60 dollars I will be happy. If I am getting quality time out of something the creators deserve compensation, regardless of media. Even if that means typing out a rambling comment durring a set of UA-cam ads. 😊
You're a real one sir, thank you.
Can we play it on android phones?
Yes
Octopath traveler 2 gameplay stream?
I do enjoy turn based games. but I do not like the business model doesn't really suit this game at all. only game that would really rival this game would have been the Shining Force Remake, but after the devs received backlash for implementing a similar gacha business model and having their own issues within their company they decided to cancel it.
any samurai, monks, ninja like FFT?
Haven't seen samurai or monks yet. Ninja are sorta in in the way the reapers work. But there's a lot of classes I haven't seen from the other nations.
2 minutes in: Gacha
Alright, it was good while it lasted
What's up with these youtubers reviewing this game. They're all saying the same exact thing as if they have a script.
I wrote my own script, so if anyone sounds the same as me I guess it's plagiarism. 🤣
So much potential wasted on gachashit
No thanks, smells of mobile phone garbage. Bummer because its gorgeous and the classes/gameplay look amazing.
sorry but you gacha put games like this directly in the trashbin.
@@brendoncahill7096 Why? Give me an actual reason to not play a good game.

Guardian Tales has something to say
P2W gatcha game = hard pass. A shame cos it looks good too.
You're missing the point that the campaign isn't even connected to any gatcha systems. They don't exist there. It's just a straight up campaign beyond the keys to unlock chapters. You literally can't pay to win.
@@TitaniumLegman gacha isn't just the pulling. It's the UI and random rewards for shit spamming you with 20 blue crystal shits.
@@mobius4247 if that was true you could find all sorts of games on the market with no gacha mechanics that are apparently gacha

Your argument is close but not quite there. Glad to have your take on the game though. It's a good video and you do make good content. Keep it up!
I tried the demo, but...the gacha elements make it garbage for me. Not interested.
It will be available on Steam without the gacha element.
@@vector6077 Will it? I tried the demo on Steam, and it was still purely gacha.
The campaign has no Gatcha. Just pass the tutorial and access the spiral of destinies. The game will point you right to it.
@@TitaniumLegman Alright, I just didn't play far enough. I did the first couple of fights in the tutorial, but got annoyed and decided not to continue. I'll give it another shot.
I believe it's like... 4-5 fights total, then you hit the campaign IIRC. I hope you wind up enjoying it.
@@multidinero correct, that's why there's a whole online gacha side of the game.
None of this is true, you have no idea what you're talking about lol. If you watched the video and didn't just rage post, you'd know that.
please be small and Offline :3
FTP hyper monetised mobile game 🤮Love the graphics though on this but hopefully the FFT remaster gets announced soon :)
I one of those people who play xcom type game adds mods to make higher party size. If it doesn't do it i wont play. If annoying hard I'm going to play it... I am bi-polar and add so that is no joke for idiots who always want to ruin game by making shit too difficult.
If this game is not a 2D pixel style, I will 100% play it. I am not a fan of pixel game, it is a skip for me.
I don't have a lot of games to play these days...and now I see a 8 -bit graphics game ??? Come on .... I would have played it if it were controllable with keyboard and mouse. But you use pointer to drag things around... 😢😢😢 Such a no go .....why are PPL hyping these games 😮😮....
Being gacha game where you spin for a new characters made me think the story will be super shallow. 😢
Story will be separate. There's no pulling for characters in the campaign, it's traditional recruitment. Only gacha stuff is in the online mode.
take a look at limbus company
No, thank you. I'll just stick with Final Fantasy Tactics.
Gacha games will always optimize for dollars per user instead of fun per play session. I'm gonna pass. Theres plenty of fun to be had on this earth without supporting unethical business models.
so bs gacha? nah
It's there because the gacha spenders are subsidizing the free campaign for everyone else. How is that not obvious?

I just can't get past the art style. Every single design looks like a fan art copy of a copy of a character from a more famous game. Like they just straight up stole Serenoa's look from Triangle Strategy for their main character. Some good potential but I don't need a watered down rehash of the same game I've played I've played a million times so wish they'd gone in an original direction.
