Jeff - Bronchiectasis: Breaking down the stigma

  • Understanding is rare, lung disease is not. One third of Australians believe people with lung disease have only themselves to blame, while one in ten will say they got what they deserved.
Jeff never chose his struggle with Bronchiectasis. When you say lung disease isn’t worthy of help, sadly, it makes people like Jeff believe it too. Anyone can get lung disease.

I'm a daily user of marijuana for pain purposes and energy reasons, it doesn't effect me to much. Actually helps me cough up the phlegm mucus and sputum! Edibles may help you! This salt solution helps my asthma and disease. I just didn't realize I could make this at home! Been getting viles from insurance for years

I talk about it often with people that are interested. Not because I want the attention but I don’t think there’s nothing to be ashamed about

@@anagutierez6112 hi there Ana I have had this since I was 13 or 14 years old. I am now about to be 24. I was given till my 25th birthday to live but I may surpass that with correct medications and several surgeries!

@@super_sketchy_time7993 I pray you can surpass it. I was diagnose with this just this month and the worst part is every infection I do have is that I cough up with blood (onset or abrupt cough and no fever, chills or whatsoever prior). I had few infections every after two years since 2014.

@@anagutierez6112 some people can have a full life! I have coughed up heavy sputum with blood as well the last 10 years or so, thank you for your thoughts! I hope you fight this the best you can as well! I travel and live every day like it's my last 😌 and yes, coughing up the mucus, sputum, or even just phlegm or blood can be a disaster without bronchiodialators. I also have chronic asthma so I have to use an inhaler or a breathing machine just about every day

@@super_sketchy_time7993 it is frustrating to think about it sometimes. I am about to teach in the US and I don't know if this condition would hinder me to teach there. I have a lot of "what ifs" already in mind.

Jeff sounds like he doesn't have his bronchiectasis under control if he is coughing that much. Jeff if you ever read this...don't rely on the doctors to tell you what to do. They only have blunt instruments. Bronchiectasis that is well managed means you are NOT coughing like crazy. You need to get into a routine of lung clearance morning lunch and evening. You need a hypersonic saline nebuliser and you need to use it. Plus an Aerobika device. At lunch do the ACB. In the evening the nebuliser and aerobika. You need to exercise EVERY single day and get those lungs moving. Plus lower your carbs...and I mean LOWER them. Diet is critical when you have bronchiectasis. Probably the biggest part of the disease .... not that any doctor will tell you. Go online to FB support groups and you'll learn stuff from the USA etc which is way more up to date than backward Australia. How do I know all this? Well I have one hell of a story .... worthy of 60 Minutes.

Correct I use my nebulizer at least once a day coughing has all but disappeared unless I have a flareup. I actually enjoy nebulizer time. I can lay down in bed, and watch TV and just relax. Interesting thing in the United States. It’s kind of hard to get the sodium chloride. I have to order it about a week in advance.
