    Love the kit, made on myself with a wooden A4 oil palette, magnets and velcro. I can also slide that into the back of a leather writing folder to switch to an A4 sketchbook and have a sort of painting desk at the top. It can hold so much in different setups, a large magnetized watercup and 2 different paint palettes should I need two (waterpaint and Derwent graphitint) And this set up for smaller sketchbooks. So handy.

    Thanks for sharing. I usually paint in my studio, but I would love to do more outside. So I love hearing about ideas for going outside and seeing artists in their outdoor environments too. Thank you.

    Love his stuff. I have the A4 design with the big bag but wasn't sure I would use it much - but I think I will adapt it like this to use an A6 portrait and this might be just the thing. Every time I go out for a walk I have the square kit you showed here in my bag. I would get this actual design but I realistically can't afford it just at the moment, but his range is just so good I'm sure I will when I've saved for it. Thanks for showing Ian's great kits.

      It's a great thing to request at birthday time! If you already have the other kit, you can just order the board and it's much cheaper (then you can move your clips and water cup from the other set up to this one). He will customize size and things that are in the kit so it makes it more affordable. Enjoy your A4!

      I usually use an A5 sketchbook, so I typically use my A5 setup (my very first video on this brand). Still my fav for normal use! I use the 5x5 most for travel where room is more of an issue because it’s so compact!

    I often do urban sketching on watercolor blocks and pads and I like this setup. My only concern is having to put magnetic strips on all of my pads and blocks. Once they are empty can you reuse the magnets?

    • @CreatingCuteArt
      @CreatingCuteArt  4 місяці тому

      I was able to take them off and move them so they seem reusable, but I'm not sure how many times they're meant to do that. Definitely direct message him, he's very responsive!

    Warning: Sort-of negative comment coming up - but hopefully the alternative proposed will be helpful to anyone thinking of spending their hard-earned cash on one of these!
    Hi, Maggie! Very good to 'see' you!
    Your 4 x 4" sketchbook holder isn't limited to a 4 X 4 sketchbook. It will also take anything up to A4 (I saw an art-tuber with a DIY version that size with an A4 sketchbook on it). An A6 landscape book would fit easily and be ideal for shoving in a bag ('purse' for those in the US). You should also be able to put both those water cups at one side so that the paint box opens flat.
    I don't like that cut-out version because of the stress the thickness of the board would cause between the cover and pages. It doesn't need to be that thick, but the same issue remains - the stress on the sketchbook!
    My reaction to this one and the 4 x 4 set-up? The only difference between this one and my own DIY set up is the price! Mine cost a fraction of the price of this as shown on his Etsy site (shown without the paints). Mine's an off-cut for the board, a roll of magnetic tape from the DIY store and elastic from the supermarket. I already had the water pots. He's charging £7 each for those, while Jackson's (and almost certainly your local art store) have them at £3. I've been intending to add a cross-over shoulder strap for the larger version, for if I had to stand up and move out of the way quickly, but haven't yet! (Maybe I will by the spring?) 😄
    For a bag, try your local market. My bag's an ancient, soft-leather handbag (purse) with shoulder strap which I've had for donkey's years but never used as a handbag, but I know I could buy a very good quality bag that would work for €17 (£14.50) at the market, and which would cost double that price in the shops here. I know because I was looking for one, before deciding that the bag I had found tucked away in the drawer was perfectly serviceable.
    Ok, it doesn't have the insert for the pencils, etc, but it does have two zipped pockets, and the inserts are easily made from a laminated piece of card with elastic stitched on at intervals to hold the pencils, etc to fit inside your own bag (it can also double up as a mixing palette, as shown by Lindsay Weirich, the Frugal Crafter!).
    The Bockingford pad isn't 100% cotton and costs £7.40 for a pad of 12 sheets, also on Jackson's, though without his art work on the front.
    Hoping that someone who doesn't have a lot of spare cash (like me, even if we did have the cash to spare, prefers not to spend a lot when able to do an equally good DIY job!) finds this helpful. 😊 Note: If I can do it, I'm absolutely certain that you can, too! 😄

      I work to pay other people to do work to have time to enjoy my free time. That’s the point of supporting small businesses that support our hobbies or professions. Good grief!

    • @MrsBarnabas
      @MrsBarnabas 7 місяців тому

      @@littlebear3879 I worked to pay my bills and my taxes, to support small businesses and to help others all my working life. I am now retired and disabled, on an extremely small budget. I am still not using big businesses to get essential jobs done, but use small, local people, like the central heating engineer who has just been to fix my boiler.
      There are millions out there, here in Europe and the UK who are now struggling to pay the fuel bills due to mega-high fuel prices, buy just the basics and are having to choose between putting the heating on, buying their children much-needed new shoes, or buying food.
      Currently, I am wearing four layers of clothes and a hat, with small hot water bottles in the pockets of the fleece gilet, and ancient 'furry' boots on my feet as I am only using the heating system when the house temperature falls below 12 degrees. I'm warm enough while moving about. When just sitting, I have a blanket over my legs and wear fingerless gloves.
      I am deeply thankful that I grew up the 1950's, in post-war Britain, where a coal fire is all we had for heating the three-bedroomed house. Why thankful? Because I learned how to keep warm in cold weather. Because I learned about managing money, value for money, and how to DIY. And because of my parents, and their training, I can now deal with my current situation and to help others, too. I'm one of the lucky ones!
      *THIS is our reality. For MIILLIONS of people, this is our reality.*
      *We can't afford to pay that sort of money for something we might love to have, and can't.* so whether you like it or not, I will go on supporting those who are in a similar situation to me, whose 'luxury' is to use their small laptop instead of a big tv to relax and enjoy the very generous ArtTubers who offer their lovely videos for to us for free. *And I will go on putting out DIY options for those who are not able to pay for 'the real thing'.* .
      *Sick of reading comments like this one from people who have absolutely no idea how so many of us are living these days and goes to make a cup of tea to try and calm down*
      *For others reading this:* I am not complaining about my situation. I'm able to manage, and to help others because of the wonderful upbringing my parents were, due to post-war circumstances and their ability, able to give me.
      But I *AM* sickened by the sort of comment made here. So please, please, be kind, be gentle and don't be judgemental. Instead, perhaps look around and see who you, too, can help someone less well off with the money you might spend on an unnecessary item such as this one, by supporting your local food bank with a donation instead. Thanks!
