I love thrifting. I’m now 61 years old and started thrifting about 6 years ago. I was the same in that I used to think thrifting was kind of yucky. I started with just home decor but now I thrift almost everything, clothing, bedding, decor, toys for grandchildren, etc. most of the Xmas gifts I buy are thrifted but either brand new or near to new. Yes thrill of the hunt 😊. And of the saving money as well as environment. I thrift all year for myself and others. I also love knowing someone wants something so I can thrift for them.
I think thrifting has become a thing for those who have money and who resell, including myself which has raised the pricing. Having said this I also think it is important for our environment to buy already loved items, to save money and pay off debt and to give to others who are in need. It is far worse, in my opinion to shop dollar store or Target, Walmart, etc. that off new but cheap and are promoting slave labour, very low pay and at times exploiting children. Even paying as little as possible to adults who have children, is exploiting and effecting children. Goodwill is not perfect since they receive the items free but don’t pay more than minimum wage to their staff, not okay, but at least items are not going into the landfill. My grandchildren all thrift also at times. They are into their teens now and know that many items given are thrifted. I give money also so they can have fun with that after. Yes promoting small business or those who pay staff fairly and/or help others. Amazon is the worst and Temu is extremely horrible for our environment and to their staff.
