Stellar Sailing Day - Hobie 14 and Weta Trimaran

- Sailing buddy recently acquired a very nice Hobie 14 Turbo model and wanted to do some "tune up" on the local lake. I joined him in my Weta. Winds were moderate, only about 8 to 17 or so but with no other boats out the water was nearly flat.

so Tom, did you settle the thorny issue of whos faster? :-)
Between an H14 and a Weta? It's not a "thorny issue" at all. The Weta is lighter, has more sail and can plane. The Weta is faster, at least in anything other than very, very light winds. Look at the DP-N figures for the two. Weta is 78.5 and the H14T is 83.5. The Weta, one-up, is much closer in performance to the H16. I do find that the cats can point a little bit higher while the Weta can go deeper on the screecher if the wind is up..
