- Ean Golden invites Q to DJ Techtools for an impromptu jam session. Hope this inspires all the turntablists and controllerists out there to make some music! Thanks to Thud Rumble and DJ Techtools for making this happen.
The best scratch Dj in the world with the best button pusher in the world! Truly an amalgamation of old school analogue and cutting edge tech
two people just having fun, and making good sounds. its just damn chill.
That my friend, is not only "good stuff", u wont see that from another duo like this. This is a living legend in action. Qbert is not copyable. Big ups
Love Ean's little Midi Fighters too. First midis out with slick, easily pressed buttons unlike a drum pad like an Akai where you can't just tap the button
Both highly talented and gifted. God bless and Big Aloha in Jesus name :)
this is sick!! two legends each on their instrument of choice and having fun while killing what could be better!
i love it how Ean Golds throws his hands in the air so dramatically after pushing the buttons. respect to both
amazed and grateful....our art have come so far......
never heard your name before buddy, but these two dudes i have been gaining respect and Huge Corporations are backing them up and sponsoring them, how many you got buddy,,, or are you a loyalist to the underground... god bless you what ever your name is...
It looks like ean is getting a tiny shock every time he hits a button and moves his hand away.
that guy you talking about in the right is midi master himself eangolden you should watch his videos hes epic
never mind about the other comments guys cause its you two stood there in front of the cameras.....lol, even if you do have a few foibles....Excellent stuff
i joined with arrrr and frrreshhh while playing the vid, so nice to mess about with!#
Nice combination,
and i guess it was nice session.
Q-bert,timecode vinyls? what they are...good scracthing,as always.
Ean Golden,nice beats.The "Pack-Man" buttons.OK.Work.´s.
Thank you both.
The best at what they do. Love Ean, DJ Qbert, AarabMuzik. Michael Jordans of their craft.
the controllerist and the turntablist in complete harmony. Ultimate manipulation! I think i jizzed a little.
2 of the best .....ever .....nuff said
The song goes: I'm having trouble trying to sleep (scratch scratchy scratch...) I'm counting sheep but running out (scratch scratchy scratch...) LOL
You can play with the tool you want... the important thing is the result!
@jeremyelrick
If you use that definition, then a MIDI piano hooked up to a hardware sampler with a large multisample map of a piano is not an instrument either. All it does is what Traktor does basically - accept midi messages and play snippets of audio on command from a controller, any controller.
I want to see a 4by4 with Babu the Turntablist and Ean Golden the Controllerist.
The point isn't how hard it is to pull off a performance. The point is how good it sounds. That's what people care about.
DJ'ing is not a "Who can do it the most difficult way" competition.
well I like it.. great out come
illest outhere! very original, and a cool guy!
This is dope.
That was truly awesome.
awsome work!
A difficulty that borders on the impossible. DJ Qbert the "Jimi Hendrix" of scratching stands alone even when compared to his counterpart MixMasterMike. Where MMM dominates in beat juggling GrandMasterQ-Bert is one of a kind; catering specifically to one deck scratching R. Quitevis represents a lost era where DJs dictated the flow of a party. Now with ipods and playlists DJs are many but great ones are few and far between. Without vocals, without lyrics scratching still speaks & it's fun2listen.
illest in the bizz! awesome! Ean has the twitch for sure! Parody vid is a must on this!
Is it just me or when the vanilla ice section hits does it look like qbert rolls his eyes like he's thinking, "I can't believe I'm scratching to this whack shit."
@B6Quattro I do get your point quattro and I agree that midi controllers have a huge amount of potential. I started djing on vinyl but ended up using controllers (maybe take a look at some of my vids)... I'm not against new technology and techniques I just think it's how they are used. Ean defines controllerism as "using controllers to emulate turntable techniques" which I think is hugely limiting on what they can do and after all..why not learn to scratch it sounds better and looks cooler:)
Damn they are so awesome!!!
Q has the edge. he relies only on raw technology turntables (which is far earlier than modern push button midi controllers). and his unbelievable skills. it's harder to manipulate vinyl than digital stuffs
This shit is SICK! Ean Golden, you rock bro.
flipping excellent.
Qbert is good. But the video effects are giving me headache.
This makes me want a Midi Fighter.
@jeremyelrick Because from where's I´m sitting, it's fairly obvious why he's doing it - he's using the MIDI Fighter to trigger cue points, and then cutting out of the channel using the crossfader when he doesn't want the track to play anymore, just like a turntablist does to create the rhythm of the scratch. Controllerism is it's own thing, with it's own ways of doing things and methods of improvisation, and unless you´ve looked into how it's actually done, I´d refrain from criticism.
2 legends on fire.
This looks like a perfect room
@Thedan961 yea it is, but they used the Lou Reed- Walk on the wild side beat
the real dj salute man....
@lolfag3 lol but was nice of him to provide a beat for bert to scratch over
@Dj3xC That's actually the DJ Tech Tools lab, Ean Golden's studio.
This is a great example of how the two technologies as well as the two are forms can work great TOGETHER>>>
@plbenoit unless all that arm flailing and long hair is impressive.
turntablism goes to decodificate music sound, like search the matrix...but turntablist love musicallilty too ad other works demostrate this
amazing!!
@thirdflooruk It's a custom Midi Fighter available in the djtechtools online store
Wowsa Vanilla Ice could be famous again!
Damn love that mix
dope!
This fucking dope guys. Keep up the good work.
new song to my MP3
Take a walk on the wild side!
I think its a special edition colored vinyl of Scratchy Seal.
the little presses are all that matters. the cuts are just adding to the choppy sound. he did that whole session (besides the backbeats) live.
BRILLANT........................
Easy to be jealous when you can't do what they do ha!
That is Brain Stew from Insomniac
the greenday thing sounded cool but the white stripes and ice ice baby are both in other ean golden videos. surely he could have come up with something new by now... i agree with people saying he tries to make it look like he's doing more than he is (not to say some of what he's doing doesnt sound awesome, not everything has to be complicated) but random hand movements just look weird
loved it!
8:00 holy shit ean golden cutting it up with a crossfader... and midi fighter LOL good stuff
Big respect to both artists but Q wins hands down as a DJ on technical skills
ice ice baby...mix is fuckin dopeeeee~!!!!!!
He does cut the beat out a bit, but there are definitely a few times like 3:53 and 7:29 where he is just twitching his hands around the fader. It's really weird.
Exactly!
No software will help you if you don't have a clue. Hard work pays off. Shit in, shit out.
They both getting it in! I like the set up Golden is rockin it pretty dope! Qbert just blacks out. He could rock a cut to a baby crying and an old lady farting he don't give a fuck
lol look at him though, he's just so into it, he's in the fucking zone making music and loving life in the moment :)
annoys me and makes me happy at the same time
A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It
Ean looks like he has turrets sometimes, not talking shit he's great but damn dude!!
@jeremyelrick in fact.... I struggle to feel that you can spontaneously alternate rythm.... im gonna try this:)
Q-Bert's smile at 3:15 ; He knows what's coming.
Qbert and Jesus!
I SEE JESUS!
And don't forget, in order to apply all these simple steps..... You have to have advanced hand dexterity.....
nice nice baby =)
Did anyone else notice how many cords Ean's got as opposed to Qbert??
haha
@blechaohana haha just keeping it retro so these HD kids know what we had to grow up with!
and having to bear with a**holes in the crowd while attempting the steps you mentioned,brah..thats seriously a big pain esp when youre new to the scene..
qBERT KILLED IT!
@Darwinist played - yes but from a certain set of pre stored/programmed slices of music or fx - It is not in essence to able to produce new original musixal compostions (live remixing does to a certain extent) and is hence not an instrument.
@ralutjohn really? I liked the whole thing
Sick scratches.
8 people love will young!!!
q berts got a good arsenal of dj equipment
What kind of sampler is Ean using?
@chris24g HAHA A TRIBE SAMPLED THAT ISH PROPER THOUGH
It's like when you let the simple kid join in, you can press a couple of buttons and pretend your doing something.
@Thedan961 any where did ATCQ sample it from???? lou reed - walk on the wild side
Lou Read - Walk on the Wild Side , TCQ - Can I Kick It lol newbz pffff
I highly respect these 2 icons! but the "little man" with the analog weapon wins it vs today's high technology
i think that when golden played ice ice baby q bert was like, bitch please!!!
00:56 Chords from Walk on a wild side, if I am not wrong.
Fuckin amazing experiment :)
Demmit X24! I feel like when we used to watch 'free' cable. Or like it's poltergeist. At least you didn't distort the sound. And, yah, I kinda get it, but argh. Otherwise, it's hella clean.
im 90% sure q bert was scratching to best suit the songs and using samples that best did it to.
looks cool man!!! lol
nice
Are those some Green Day samples? Brain Stew?
anybody know the name of the greenday song? i cant remember it..
@DjARTisROCK
not just half, mom and dad are both filipino
