So, in they year something, something, there was an edict somewhere in the world (I want to say Rome????), anyway, the Emperor was preparing for war and thought that his soldiers would be distracted by having wives who they would miss and as such not be able to sacrifice themselves and fight in the war. So, to this end, he banned all marriages. Then there was this priest called Father Valentino (ta daaa) who secretly married thousands of soldiers and their wives and was thus regarded as being the father of love. Obviously pissed off the Emperor and was executed. He was later canonized as St Valentine and thus we celebrate Valentines Day. Cupid is just some random baby going around shooting people with arrows.
