It only took one stray cat to be spotted on the other side of the screen door for all hell to break loose. Three days of yowling and hissing

You are correct, sounds like you are on the right track--how did it go?
In your case, try baby gates, stacked boxes or some kind of way to create seperation.

Jackson can you describe or show the different levels of cat aggression. Sometimes, we humans see cats fighting and it looks like murder but it's really just cats exercising or showing who's top cat versus I'm going to kill you. Also differences between posturing angry and scary versus the real threat thing.

I agree, we just experienced our three cats falling out. Started out really nasty but now all we see is hissing, staring and fluffing up. I’m never sure if this is still seen as aggressive behaviour we should stop and start the process again with or its normal and this is ok for them to display as long as it doesn’t get worse. I’m not sure.

      Not necessarily.
My two boys do that and a few minutes later they will eat side by side. 🤷‍♀️
I think the key point ist whether one of the cats shows signs of fear towards the other one after such a fight. Because mine don’t.

Jackson you answered a puzzling question I had. My beloved Whitey who recently passed away ( I still have not gotten over losing him, I cry every time I think of him) would get into short fight with my other male Maxxy, it sounded like they were going to kill each other but no blood ever drawn. Eventually these battles stopped and my two boys got along well until whitey’s passing. I recently adopted a new kitten who I named Whitey. She is an angel, she sleeps on my chest, I love her dearly. My original Whitey will always have a special place in my heart. I am a cat lover and I love your videos and the wonderful work you do. Take care.

With my 2 cats they were never introduced in the house, one is my adopted cat from where I lived before the other is one of the local stray cats who just up and decided to move in, whether my, then 2, own cats wanted him around or not. I don't have the space, the ameneties or the physicality to separate them, the stray cat weighs more than I can comfortably lift even as a skinny old man (obviously we don;t know how old he is, but he's old enough to have kidney failure) Now that my youngest cat, and the buffer between the remaining 2, has passed on tensions are high, especially as the former stray has to have special food for his kidneys, and is, in general, a jealous bully.

Jackson...I'm about to rehome my cat and I am extremely distraught over it and I dont want to do this but I truly don't know what else to do. I'm afraid I'm gonna come home one day and the bedroom door isn't gonna be shut anymore and one of my cats would of killed the other. They used to love each other until something happened one night (pretty sure a raccoon showed up on my back porch super late and my cats saw it through the door, had been letting the cats on the porch prior to this) all they wanna do is fight and there has been blood so im doing my best to keep them separated. But u cannot find a single answer on the internet about how to train these cats to not see that raccoon fear in each other. People have talked about territory and dominance but I believe my cats are just fucking terrified of one another and I wish I could fix this for both of their sakes. I've tried anxiety pills, sprays, diffuser, drops, chewables, postive reinforcement, feeding them by the door and I cannot afford behavioral specialists in my area. This breaks my heart, I need help. My cats really need your help

Would you have any advise on introducing 2 adult cats, one which follows the scared one everywhere while she tries to hide and finishes in a corner pooping herself in that hiding place?
We have separated them, but are going to try introducing them again with the advice from your cat introduction video. Do you think we will be bale to put them together with patience and your methods? (we have 3 cats, my 2old ones and the cat of my boyfriend that became part of the family when we started living together, she has no issues with my other cat, only the new one).

My 7 yo female cat used to have my room as her personal place she used to go out a lot. The roof was changed while she was out wandering (my dad's fault) and she just couldn't get inside anymore. Outside of my room she never gets herself pet. So 1 week fighting to catch an uncatchable cat to bring her inside. Since then she doesn't leave my room, and i have to take her out myself. This year she got the bed as hiding place and my mom tells me to send her outside to get sun in the morning. My cat now know the rutine and now hides from me... 2 new cats came, 1 hyper kitten last year (she's fine with him until he plays roughly, which he like a lot) an a 2 yo cat a few months ago, and my 7 yo cat now in my room, only me, trying to pet her she gets agressive. the new cat is so much bigger than all of them, and gets really well with the 1yo kitten (the only one that can handle his hyper playfulness most of the time). Our female cats had always been shy but now my cat is agressive and him being overly agressive with my cat, and she is now overly agressive with everyone making a loop of agressiveness. But the kitten gets really bad influence (for real) from the new cat, while being with my cat alone they can be side by side mind in their own business (in my room), withe the other make cat they bully our 7 and 8 yo females. The other female has a room downstairs, mine is upstairs and my family doesn't help. And talking is not the solution. I'm getting tired and just forcing my cat to be out of my room and handle her fear but my mom comes and shuts her in my room to get her safe, encouraging her fear more. The same that told me to take her out in the day and making my cat fear me while daylight.

Im at a complete loss, i have four cats and im only 18 and jobless atm. I only signed up for one, my eldest boy who was a roughed up street fighter (he lost half his ear and is blind in one eye from fighting) and a very loving cat so i took him in on my own account. One cat i had to keep because my ex girlfriend decided she wasnt cute enough to keep but she couldn't take the cat back to the previous people because they were meth'd up addicts with 15+ unfixed cats already. I was fine with two cats cause they got along well. My brother who lived with us before he went to jail decided to adopt a kitten he stole from our neighbor because they were neglecting it as well as their own two cats that i have to feed sometimes too because they don't bother to, poor babies were skins and bones. Anyway hes gone to jail and for the past two years we've had him my eldest boy used to love him as a kitten but once he grew up the eldest boy started pinning him down by his neck and straight up rip him up with his back claws and my youngest and petrified of him now and runs away when he jus smells him on furniture. My brother wont let me give him up and neither will my conscience but he's stuck with the option of outside or my fathers stuffy room. And now my brothers friend has drop a cat off on us, promised to take her cat after two weeks but never did, she became attached very quick some how and my guilt won't let me give her up either and my other female doesnt like her very much but to be fare she just sorta swats at her. What should i do that would be in best interest for the cats? I know im stupid for keeping them all but they all came from poor situations and i dont want to put them all through losing another family or possibly being killed in a shelter it's stressful on them and myself.

  • @amightysailingman
    @amightysailingman 5 місяців тому

I adopted two cats because the shelter said they were the best of friends and must be adopted together. Now they're always staying apart and going at each other when they do come face to face. I think one just wants to play, based on her body language, but the other one just growls at her, which doesn't bode well.

I had two cats that became best friends easily. A 9 week old kitten and a 10 year old senior. No issues and followed your advice to the T. Two and half years later, now I've recently got a third cat, unexpectedly, and me and my husband are trying to make it work. Now it's been three weeks and the process went from total animosity to just annoyance with each other. The new cat is about 10 months now and I can see it's working. But, he is always trying to play with the other two cats. The other two cats (mainly the senior) doesn't want any of it. For some reason the 10 month old is still seeing the senior her as a target/toy even after the senior maintains dominance (this kitty has lots of energy and play aggression that's hard to keep up with). Obviously the integration is going slowly but I'm wondering how to make the new kitty respect my other cats boundaries or if the nature of cats will take care of it, eventually? Atm my new cat is still separated by a baby gate from the other two. they meet at feeding time and some visits throughout the day.

It has been a year, has the cat fighting stopped?
I am experiencing never before non recognition aggression after an ill cat's vet visit. Through JGs and other's videos as well as articles, I am learning an absolute must is "scent swapping". Rub a sock over the facial scent glands of the aggressive cats, then rub that scented sock over the face and spine of the attacked cat. Do this repeatedly a few times in one day, then supervise a reintroduction may be in just one room. Continue to allow supervised visits for a day or two.

I need help someone please notice me! so I just moved in to my grandparent’s place and they have 4 adult domestic cats and 1 that is one year old. and then after a few weeks, I decided to adopt a kitten, it’s tiny and he’s 2 months old.
when I first got home with the kitten, I handed it to my grandpa to get changed at my room upstairs and to my shock, I heard loud cat noises and my grandma screaming. what happened is my grandpa laid the kitten on the table and one of the cats attacked the kitten, the poor kitten was so scared that he even peed himself.
after that, my kitten was shaking but I was able to calm him down. and then since then, my kitten just stays in my room and I always have to keep the door closed or else the otger cats will come in and attack the kitten.
now the kitten is 3 months old, BUT still not fond of the others. he already got attacked 4 times, when the door gets opened by the wind or when I accidentally leave the door open. I don’t know what to dooo huhu

hi :) I have a little problems with my new cat. He gets along with my two other cats, but he has a problem when I comes to eating. Besides this he is a great cat, but I'm concerned with how fast he eats. He gets really worked up at our feeding times and circles me and the other cats until a food bowl is placed on the floor, then he darts for it. I know it can't be good for him to eat so fast and I want him to be more relaxed while eating. I am hoping that maybe you can cover this in one of your future videos. Thank you for taking time to read this and I hope you consider this in the future.

My bigger sibling male always with Chase my little sister female. But after three vet visits for my male female is just not having it. Can I try to get them supervised and keep them separated but I thought it was OK well I just had a scuffle this morning and I noticed a big chunk out of my boy kitties nose I’m so upset! So I bought some Fairmon multicat and regular one for upstairs one for downstairs and I have some spray but it takes so long to dry and it smells so bad if it gets in your lungs it’s terrible. Anyway I don’t know what to do they’ve been together over four years they’ve never slept together they tolerate each other. But I think since my boy kitty went to the doctors and came home smelling like alcohol after a blood draw it through his sister for a loop and then he had to go back two more times three times in two weeks was just the tipping point. I did not listen to my instincts. I definitely should’ve re-introduced my vet just said make them smell the same rub some rescue remedy on there for and spray that stuff around the house and it did work the first time but the second and third time I dropped the ball.

My cat has been living in a stressful house for almost a year now after I moved in with my boyfriend and his 2 cats (fixed, male and female). My cat is barely 7 lbs and the sweetest little thing, skittish of strangers and garbage trucks outside. She's great with other cats once she knows they're no threat and has cohabitated lots. The problem is my boyfriends cats are straight up bullies, particularly his female. The introduction went horribly because my bf got impatient and now my cat is absolutely terrified of his female, panicking anytime she sees her. The male is better but has a weird fixation on my cat still. The two females can eat side by side but will absolutely not come close to the other on either side of a baby gate, my cat just panics and runs away. There's been many cat fights despite our best to keep them in separate rooms, and my cat has had blood drawn 3 times now. My boyfriend doesn't seem to think this is a problem, my cat always living in fear and anxiety. He says it's their wild instincts and if someone loses an eye, oh well. His female displays:
    -face marking
    -tail swishing
    -mrowling
-no hissing or pinned ears, just head low and tail swishing
    -actively looking for my cat
-watches my cat for an opening to attack for no reason (while shes grooming or sleeping)
My cat always goes into fear aggression mode: Ears pinned, low to the ground, hissing, she's even pooped herself a few times during a fight.
This has been going on for months now with no headway. My cat is not treat or toy motivated with the other cats in the room, shes always too scared and goes on the defensive. We don't know what else to do now that my cat basically has PTSD.

She put my partners bully cat in her place simply by standing her ground and not being intimidated by her. My skittish cat has made friends with the new girl but is still very untrustworthy around the tuxedos. They can be in the same room now but always supervised. When we leave the house either my cat goes in our room or we put the bullies downstairs while we're gone. It's better than it was but not perfect

I am happy to hear of the improvement.
      2 Suggestions:
      1. Consider investing in Feliway Optum or Multi Cat diffuser(s) in areas where they hang out the most. It may help, most hv results but not all.
      2. See what happens when you take a sock and rub it over the facial glands of one of the bullies, then rub it on the skittish cat. Do this a few times over one or two days.
      3. Separate the skittish cat and play with her alone--it builds her confidence. Do this regularly, may be once a day.
#2 and #3 I got from Jackson Galaxy. Lmk if these work/help.

I hv learned that scent swapping is highly important. Take a sock and rub the scent from the other cat's facial glands, then rub on intimidated cat. Repeat a few times over a day. Separate her from them if necessary, then try a supervised reintroduction.

I live in a small home where I have no way of separating the 2 cats, and neither likes being caged. What other options do I have? They've been at war since a vet visit and when everything seem to improve, they go downhill again. It gets to a point where one cat gets so terrified and stalked she pees and poops everywhere. Sometimes, the other one backs off after some hissing, other times that other one goes high strung and attacks.... they're fighting so bad often when I am at work and they are left alone. The one being stalked is still on medication after some dental extractions so I'm not happy that she's so stressed. Please help!

Once upon a time I had the good fortune to have 5 cats that got along beautifully. I was so spoiled! Presently I have a super sweet laid back 13 pound Ragdoll girl and a sassy 4.8 pound shaded silver teacup Persian. I appreciate the Ragdoll creating an environment where the Persian can be head cat and unafraid, but when the tiny Persian slaps her laid back Sister for being in her way, it is easy to be offended on behalf of the Ragdoll. Ah well.

I have a 1 year old cat since she is a kitten. I rescued a 8 year old from a kill shelter. They both are loving cats but they don’t like each other. They eat together. They can be in the same room but if they walk pass each other it’s not good. No contact fighting but they chase each other and sometimes it sounds like they are killing each other but they haven’t hurt each other. I feel horrible. I separate them at night. They take turns sleeping with me. Then one is crying at the door. I am lost. I did the introduction many times.

Then out of the blue when they’re tired out, i see the little kitten and the bigger aggressive one napping with their belly’s facing each other to the side. It’s so confusing.

i have 2 male cats (litter mates) which i had to separate for a year (october 2022 to october 2023) since one of them had gotten really sick for a long time. while on separation, each of them realize there is another cat in the house but they never see each other.
when i finally ready to reintroduced them, I've already prepared by neutering both firstly... i was hoping that the meeting process will go smooth, which wasn't the case at all... the ex-sick cat becomes very aggresive toward the healthy one. i've tried jackson's reintroducing method for a few months now but it still doesn't work. My cat is a really sweet cat around us at home. But when someone else comes into the house, she gets all defensive and hides. She sometimes bites, and even then I can't get her to calm down. How can I help my cat see that our guests aren't going to hurt her? She isn't a bad cat, and she doesn't go crazy when someone walks into the house. She just doesn't like strangers, even if she has met them before. Is that normal for a cat?

    • @IlGattonero13
      @IlGattonero13 6 років тому +4

Ask your guests not to approach or try to touch her; if possible they should ignore her completely and respect her space. She may also feel more comfortable observing visitors from a perch high off the floor. You might also keep treats on hand that guests can offer her when they arrive; that way she'll associate visitors with something positive. In any case don't force the issue -- trying to persuade her to be friendly to outsiders could produce the opposite result. Good luck!

This may be different. One came to us as a stray kitten. We took it in to be an indoor/outdoor cat and it has all it's street smarts. The other is older, stronger, and challenges everything that hisses at it. I shows a few times a week and is very nice and social to people. However, my cats are very nervous around him or her. Too fluffy for us to tell. Lol. A couple days ago, it fought with our cat. Our cat has seniority and we still see the white cat as a stray. We decided it's not welcome back, and we ran it off. But it came back today with the most pitiful displays of regret as it refuse to run away and was prepared to be punished, but we can't bring ourselves to be mean to animals, so I just went back inside not refilling the food bowl to give the cat a hint. I feel I need to provide a home where my cats feel safe. But when the white cat comes, they are very timid. The white cat seems like the head honcho around these parts. Anyway, I don't see a way to to get these particular cats to become friends so easily. But this white cat has been friendly to us, sociable, etc for nearly 6 years now. It years my heart out to shoo it away. Do you think I should try another solution?

Jackson and UA-cam I honestly have no idea where else to go for am explanation for this. Something very odd happened just a few minutes ago. I have three cats one is a senior around 12 we assume. The other two are younger 2 - 3. Our older cat was a stray so we let him go outside at night for a while. Then we let him in. Tonight I had a bit of an issue getting him in but it was quickly resolved by a small wait. I let him in, close and lock the door then all hell breaks loose behind me. I turn around and I see one of the younger cats (Tiggs) and the older cat (Lucky) facing eachother. Lucky is doing his standard "angry airplane" growl. But Tiggs is making a sound I've never heard before. For lack of a better term he sounded like a wolf howling! This goes on for a while until they go into the dining room. And it starts up again. They have a conversation right in front of me Tiggs still occationaly making that noise and Lucky still growling. Then they calm down a bit and just sit there staring at eachother. It is worth noting these two get along very very well. They sleep together, play fight (which Lucky would never do with the other cat), and even drink and eat out of the same bowl. But NEVER have they ever done anything like this. Insight and a professional or otherwise opinion would be lovely. Because honestly I just want to know what the hell just went down in front of me.

They will eat next to each other if I am feeding them wet food, but other than that, they hate each other. My cat that is getting attacked lives on the counter tops and above on cat trees. I separate them upstairs/downstairs during the day to give my one cat a break from the bully cat. They are both fixed and I have had them since they were kittens. I know these are old comments but just in case I figured I'd add my experience so far. I've slowly started to do reintroduction using the same methods of normal introduction styles and it has been a slow race but the change is immense. My cats were fighting viciously, so I separated the more aggressive cat into a room by himself and let the other one roam. I would switch them out every other day to get them used to each others smells. I also started feeding them on opposite sides of the door and it worked so well I could open the door and they would watch each other as they ate which is a really good association to have. I would say start off slow and go into it like they never even met before. If you watch his my cat from hell videos about cat fighting it really is pretty much what I did. It's taken a little longer than I'd expect but nonetheless. My cats arent bestfriends right now but they arent trying to kill each other so I'd say some progress is better than none because they were much more miserable before, as was I. They will probably cry a lot at first but the payout is definitely worth it! I hope this finds you and your kittes well 😊 much love to my fellow kitty parents.

My cat bully’s my sister’s cat despite knowing & living with him since she was “8 weeks” old (the pet store had us come back almost a week after I met her so she’d be a legal 8 weeks, god knows how long her litter was there) but she’s never known how to cat. They rarely fight until blood is drawn (maybe 5 times in 9 years) but they yowl & tussle roughly once a fortnight, so they do try to work things out. My cat is crazy possessive of me, it’s only safe to pet SEK if she’s not around or if she turned down affection first. She’s also intensely territorial about my room & the hallway outside my room which is where they fight the most (it’s also where she “plays” ambush & swipes at people’s ankles). She’s just a very dominant cat with no idea her “play” is inappropriate because they took her from her mother far too soon. How do I help them live their best lives? I don’t need them to love each other but I don’t want them to hate each other either. Poor SEK is getting picked on constantly & I don’t blame him for turning & “attacking her” sometimes (more like telling her off).

I have a question a little bit off topic here, but I was thinking maybe I could find some help. So I just move in a new apartment cause I broke up with my ex bf who was terrorizing one of my cats (I have 2 cats, Vivi and Moustif and he have one cat, Calou, he was terrorizing Vivi, the only female). She always found refuge close to my desk in a piece of furniture. Her only "safe zone" was about 1m² around my desk when I was present. So I ditch the guy and move. But now she still won't go to the windows and stay around my desk all day long. What can I do to help her regain confidence and feel safe in all the apartment ?
PS : My ex bf was thinking that 3 cats in 50m² are too much so he want me to get rid of her, that's why he was acting like that.

If you want to feed your kittens raw meat you need to start from an early age once they are eating solid food. My cats won't eat raw meat at all but love steamed chicken breast. The dynamics of our household changes a lot.. ((story short of ten years:
Had two cats, the older was the boss over the kitten, they were fine a bit fighting. Then we added a dog, cats ruled still. Then we also got another cat, she was alright.
Then the older cat passed away.. Dog took over and ruled them.
Then we had another cat a year ago, this time a male. Dog passed away, the male cat/ third cat took the crown.
I'm really confused honestly, it changes a lot.
All three cats now fight a bit around but nothing too serious, I'm just worried it will since my second cat is already, ten years old? And the male cat is much younger and twice her size.
Altho I'm sure things will continue to be fine.
They all mostly live in the garden we have, so they have a large area and stuff to do, a few roofs around too that they jump on.
I just let them be, or sometimes call out their names, they usually stop and bring their tail back up and go to me or run off haha

Kaitlin Greathouse make sure not to replace or wash their litter box. Don't wash their scent soakers like blankets and other things. Most likely your cat will be confused and find a hiding place, so place the litter box close to that proximity. I made the mistake of completely replacing my cats litter box and when he finally came out from hiding he went potty in the corner out of confusion.

    My cats JUST exploded.
We have 3. Originally it was 4. I had two and my husband had two when we started dating. One of mine has passed away since and we moved but could only keep 2 cats so my mom kept my cat and we kept his two.
We have moved again and took my kitty back and since reintroducing them together things have only gotten worse. They never got along well before hand. But we also never had to deal with major injuries. 8 stiches 4 on either side of the tail on my cat. BooBoo.
She's not an innocent party in the fighting. Nugget and her are equally to blame for all the fighting and our 3rd cat only gets involved if one of the other two attacks her.
All 3 are females, all 3 are fixed. And they are all around 5-7 years old so we have a number of years to go with them. And we don't plan on ever splitting them up again as living at my mom's was really stressful for Booboo as she has 3 cats of her own.
While BooBoos stiches were healing she was down in the basement with the door shut. My brother his gf and their baby live down there so she had plenty of attention which she really craves. She loves to cuddle. Before the whole incident none of the cats were "allowed" down stairs because our cats will pee on the floor in inactive areas of the house and since only 1/3rd of the basement is occupied by humans we thought it best to keep them out. They still had a litter box and food and water incase they got stuck down there on accident but the door was closed 90% of the time.
BooBoos stiches are off but we keep the basement door open now for her and the other cats but she's pretty much claimed the basement as hers and the other cats don't bug her down there as much.
I worry tho. Because my brother is moving out soon into his own place with his gf and their baby. And my husband and I Don't go downstairs alot. I worry BooBoo will get lonely even tho we don't shut her down there, because she never comes up. She's scared of Nugget and will not come up stairs for longer than 30 mins at a time. I'm sure she will once my brothers not down there anymore but im.worried the fighting will come back. We've had one week since the stiches came out and the door was opened so the cats can mingle and it's been peaceful. But I really Don't know what to do if it goes back to the way it was.

You may want to add something around the top of your backyard fencing to keep your cat in and the other cats out. Something that cannot be easily climbed by either kitty. That way, neighbor cat won't be able to bother yours anymore.
