- When their unborn baby was diagnosed with a heart defect called transposition of the great arteries, Kristin and Joe turned to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. For more: heart.chop.edu
Jack Rychik, MD, and the team at the Fetal Heart Program at CHOP monitored the baby throughout the pregnancy and put a plan in place for the baby's delivery and immediate care. LJ was born at CHOP's Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit, the world’s first birthing unit within a pediatric hospital dedicated to healthy mothers carrying babies with serious and life-threatening birth defects. A few hours later he had a catheterization procedure called balloon atrial septostomy, which stabilized him for open heart surgery two days later. The surgery, called the arterial switch, was performed by Christopher E. Mascio, MD, a pediatric heart surgeon at CHOP.
We are going through this right now. We are really scared. My daughter had surgery yesterday. They said everything went great. But we are extremely scared. Watching this video gave me a little relief
I gave birth in special unit at CHOP..my sons surgeon is Dr. Mascio also. We meet Dr. Rychik when I was still pregnant..blessed to be in CHOP..and also Dr. Geoffrey Bird my sons cardiologist..
I have TGA but my heart corrected itself which is rare
And bad. You have to see a congenital cardiologist every year. And you need to keep a close eye on yourself.
The video content is so excellent, congratulations
