- Have you ever played a Mario Maker 2 Level that was completely black and white? I hadn't either until I played this TROLL level!!
Hello and welcome to another episode of the TROLLED series! The series where we are showing that it can be a lot of fun to look like an idiot! The level that's making me look like an idiot today is called "Achromatopsia" made by Prof. Dori!
Big thanks to Chris for editing this video!

Chat: How many times can Dave say Achromatopsia wrong??
Dave: Yes
Dogs can actually see colour, just not as much as we can, for example: they can see both yellow and blue but they can’t see any shade of red, so purple, red, orange etc cannot be seen by dogs, instead they see them in other colors, that’s why dogs can’t differentiate between the green of the grass and a red ball inside, for it, the ball looks green as well.
Same with cats. Can see yellow and blue, can't see red.
@@RoninCatholic this is because they are both animals within the same group of Carnivora, but a bunch of other mammals can see the same or less color, the reason we can see it is because so we were able to see the red fruits that before that were only found by birds. Birds are able to see them from the start because mammals see less colour since the dinosaurs let many of us become nocturnal and that requires less color vision
Which is strange to me for so many reasons. Red seems like such an important color to be able to see, especially as a carnivore. In linguistics, it's often the case that red is the very first color to get a word in a language aside from "light" and "dark".
@@taiken64 that's mainly because red is important for humans, we got the ability in order to spot things like fruit in trees that were meant for birds and it is important because of blood. Dogs work more with smell so they don't have to spot a carcass, they cannjust smell the flesh and when you hunt you don't see red anyway before you killed your prey.
I find it so interesting how the brain tries to fill in colour
I keep feeling like the ice blocks at the start still have some blue, and the bumper still has green, but no, they're fully greyscale
It really is impressive. The sad thing is that this is not the case for colourblind people. Our brain fills colour in because we've seen such colours. A colourblind person's brain cannot do this with colours they've never seen before.
@@fullmoonshadow6967 The impressiveness knows no bounds. But it's even sadder for blind people than color blind people because they can't fill in black and white either. But it's even happier for mantis shrimp because they detect 10 times as much color as humans. It's amazing in both sad and happy ways to gauge how much color is colored by the colorful colors of colorings.
@@JordanICMWow you really love color! huh?
When I use recall in totk, I always think the sages are still blue, but they aren't.
@@fullmoonshadow6967 Color blind people can still see color, so hopefully this effect would still work for said people.
So basically this level is "The Decimation of DGR's Sanity" but better
This level has CP1, CP2, CP1 from CP2 and CP2 from CP1. It's a emotional rollercoaster.
Man, seeing it in monochrome takes me back. One of my earliest memories is watching Star Wars on a black and white tv in my parents bedroom.
5:28 Dogs don’t see in black and white, it’s a common misconception. They only see yellow and blues, they can’t see reds.
now let's wait for someone to make a troll level with inverted colors. I haven't made a troll level but i sure have made levels that feature inverted colors
How is it done?
@@TheRealRidley12sorry if i'm late but to make inverted color levels you go to the settings of your nintendo switch and change it to inverted colors then just make a level in inverted colors..you could make things like an ice cave this way
@@specialelfilin
Why would the Switch even have an inverted color option?
@@pkmntrainermark8881 idk why but it sure has some use...smw cave inv colors looks like an ice cave while nsmbu looks like a lava cave for example.
@@pkmntrainermark8881 high contrast mode can help people see the sprites/text better, as the colors are made to contrast against each other. At least I believe that's the point
Funny cause the ground blocks for SMB1 Castle and the solid black background looks completely normal in the black and white look
Also genius troll with the 1-Up vs the real Mushroom since it's no color 😎
Dogs don't see in Grey scale. They have 2 cones in the eyes where we have 3. Dogs see blue and yellow very well.
Side note green and yellow appear almost the same to dogs. They have a much easier time seeing blue tennis balls
Same goes for cats. A lot of animals are colourblind, and this is exactly why a bright orange tiger blends in like a shadow to other animals.
One of my brothers also has trouble with green and yellow. He used to draw a lot of humans with green skin by accident.
One of my brothers was completely colorblind, stress-induced, for years. He says he saw things in a brown scale, not gray scale.
One of my sisters is at least partially colorblind.
I, meanwhile, am the opposite. I have color hyper-sensitivity and can visually distinguish very fine shades of purples, etc. but I have a _personal aesthetic preference_ for sharp contrast and high saturation.
mantis shrimp have thirteen cones in their eyes.
Behold, The Super Gameboy Mario Maker 2!!!!!!
So this is the birth of "Oww heck! a ghost!"
Thanks to Chris The Editor! For fixing Dave's face XD
It'd be a nice idea to sometimes have a black&white challenge, no?
I'd love that!
I don't really think he fixed Dave's face since he still looks like Dave.
NO DGR!!! Dogs do not see in black and white, they see in blue and yellow... They have something like Deuteranomaly, which is red green color blindness, they don't have full on color blindness...
Either Deuteranomaly, or proanomaly. They're opposites. One is no red, and minor green, the other is no green, and minor red.
@@fullmoonshadow6967 it is really neither... as I said it is more like yellow so something inbetween red and green that they see... afterall they aren't primates so their color senses evolved differently
Fun fact: Monochrome does NOT mean black-and-white or greyscale. For example, you can add some different shades of blue to a black and white picture and it's still considered monochrome. But if you add another hue, even an analogous one such as green or purple (or maybe even cyan, depending on whether or not you consider that to be in the "blue" family), THEN it is no longer monochrome.
Um, no. Monochrome means that one and only one color is used. From ancient Greek: "mónos" meaning one and "khrôma" meaning color. One color.
@@JoshuaBloom01 Exactly, but black and white are not considered colors. Having just blue in use in a work still leaves it monochromatic.
@@YrrepRednaxela I'm not sure where you learned color theory, but in college they teach that black and white are most definitely colors.
@@JoshuaBloom01 I did monochrome design assignments in college. The ol' "black, white, and red all over" is considered monochrome.
@@j-yoshi64_justcallmej the ol' black and white and red all over? What is that?
Thank you Chris the editor for making DGR greyscale too
3:41 Chris, you're the best. XDDDDD
This throws me back to playing Atari games on my black and white TV in my bedroom in the 80s lol
Dogs don't see in black and white. That's a myth. They see color; just not the same colors as us.
Red-green colourblindness.
Even if the myth were true, a dog seeing in full grayscale could probably still differentiate between a red ball and a black one, the red one has a little more lightness to it
Chris? Headpats. All the headpats. Ya done gud.
When I was young we were real poor, we had a second TV that was an old black and white one that we hooked our SNES up to since mom and dad did not want us playing video games on the main TV when they wanted to watch things. I beat Micky's Magical Quest on that Black and White TV... I was blown away by the colour pallet the game chose at times when I finally got to play on the colour TV one day. It made something easier to spot, but mostly it made things hard for me because I had trained my eye to spot the black and white versions.
So.. dogs' and cats' sight, determined by genetics and science is not black and white. It's mostly yellow. The eyes generally contain three cones for seeing light. Red, green, and blue. Having no functioning cones means you have achromatopsia, and see in black and white. Dogs and cats generally have red-green colourblindness, meaning they see mostly yellows, some blue, and a little bit of red or green, but very little.
(Edit was to correct a grammar error enforced by my auto"correct")
Autocorrect? More like Autowrong!
Chris is basically Thanos.
Thanks Chris!
This video is a cool idea, what with it being mostly in black-and-white, that is, until I get an ad for Temu in full color that ruins the vibe and my temper.
I have made levels that are made in inverted colors they aren't troll levels but the inverted colors give the level vibe better (and 1 level in greyscale)

dogs don't see in black and white- Dogs can see color-contrary to what we once thought. Although they don't see in black and white, they also don't see the same colors as humans. The anatomy of dogs' eyes and their photoreceptors differ from that of humans (and other species), giving dogs a unique visual perspective.
Finally someone says it
They're a type of red-green colourblind I believe, the same being true with cats. Tho as far as I'm aware, they're opposites, with cats seeing more green than dogs, and dogs seeing more red than cats.
@@Interyoalty yep
@@fullmoonshadow6967 yep your right
It's wrong, dogs don't see in gray scale, they do see in color but not on the full range of colors we see. That has been prooved.
Is DGR dead? It turn into a ghost 😂 mario decide finally make the crime 😂. After DGR let mario dies bilion times 😂.
Good job chris with the editing.
The homie, Chris!! Tysm for making Dave B&W :D
I watch Svengoolie every weekend and 90% of his movies are Black and White, so I've seen my fair share of Black and White movies. Also, seeing Dave in Black and White, it was like he was in the Twilight Zone.
I couldn't stop laughing in just the first 23 seconds. LOL
3:45 YESSSS!!!!! GO Editor Chris XD XD XD
This is like the second time I’ve heard Dave quote that specific gospel song. Kind of neat hearing a “younger” streamer quoting Vestal.
I had a black and white TV when I started playing Mario 😅
21:52 / 22:06 The inversion of checkpoints : from now, the CP2 leads to the after-CP1 part and the CP1 to the after-CP2 part.

22:58 "Ah-chrome-attoo-sopia"
23:07 "Accrue-matsopia"
Here's the first video I thought of for the pronunciation ua-cam.com/video/fDoAs0qN7lU/v-deo.html
I was pretty close, I said "top" instead of "tope" lol
You know it’s a good day when dgr posts
I didn't even know there was a monochromatic mode!
Fun Fact: it's actually possible to make a monochromatic level in ful color mode if you use the right style, theme, and items.
Epic Chris moment
2:58 then who was flickering the lights ???
I was expecting more mushroom shenanigans, like "You need a mushroom, so pick a path; one way is a power up, the other is a 1up, or a poison mudhroom". Still, a very interesting gimmick, and a reminder how visual many of us, till aspects of that vision are deprived from us.
Chris is awesome! never stop.
5:30 Dave, that is not true. ;)
6:50 DAAAAAAAAAVE!!!!!!!!!!
Dogs do see colors. Check this one out.
I first saw 'color' TV in Phoenix, AZ. at a TV and appliance store. Bonanza in color in the front window display of the store at night in 1959. I watched the whole show, too, through the glass.
Dogs are not color blind. Rather not fully color blind. If I looked up the right info, they basically struggle with the color red.
They've got a type of red-green colourblindness that makes them see mostly yellow. If you want to be kind to your dog, make sure most of its toys are blue. They see blue well, and it stands out against yellow grass, dirt and trees.
A- is a negative prefix
Chromat- is the root of color
Ops- is the root of sight
-ia is a suffix
Achromatopsia, aka not seeing color.
Yes. Then you have other ones like deuter, protan, and tritan. (Just the three most common colourblindness types)
shoutout to editor chris for giving us the full experience
I expected more shenanigans with mushrooms, Koopas and other things couldn't tell the difference of by color.
I woke up early so I could watch your stream this morning on twitch, but then it disappeared off the schedule. So I wonder if there is a secret plan.
Imagine how black and white tv was luxury 100 years ago. Only a few people had them in their house. I cant look at it.
I don't think it was quite 100 years ago, that would have been the 1920s. As far as I'm aware, tv's weren't common until the 1960s or later.
_50_ years ago black and white TV was still a luxury, just a more common one than then-new color TV. _100_ years ago, there wasn't even a working prototype of TV, radio and print media were the main forms of entertainment outside of sports.
2:59 Dave looks like Playboi Carti on the Whole Lotta Red album cover 💀

I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, and black & white TVs were still somewhat common but well on their way out. Our kitchen TV was a small B&W set (I want to say about 10" or so).
color in tv been around since the 1940s but for mass production it was cheaper to not have them to have color
More troll levels like this please 😂
7:18 I still do Dave. To this day I still watch TV shows black and white.
I was glad to catch the stream. As they say, you never forget your first stream, and that would be right! I remember making you laugh by saying something in chat and really hope to see it in the vid, but it sadly didnt make it. Great stream and video tho, keep up the content!
Bro Chris just changed this whole episode
5:30 - This is not how dogs see. Most dogs have blue- and yellow-receptive cones like most mammals.
thx chris
5:24 calling it now the cheep cheep will turn around cuz they're red
Honestly, the Black and White face would make a pretty cool shirt design.
Watching this, glancing over at my other screen, it looks so vibrant!
This was such an interesting idea for a level. This was super cool!
Greetings from the BIG SKY. Black and white and shades of grey. Oh, boy.!
A-chrome-a-tope-sia
I remember playing Super Mario World on an old Black and White TV back in the day. That was certainly different.
for me it was Megaman on the NES but same.
The really funny thing about using a greyscale filter, is that your brain tries to recreate the colors, but fails, so it comes out in such a weird way.
Thanos reference 👌
LMAO Chris!
I'm sure I saw this level before. Did Geek play it?
Yes. It was designed specifically for her 4th wall contest, where each level has an additional rule you enforce yourself. I especially recommend the level where you're not supposed to ever press left.
Good Ole Chris.. The 170, behind DGR's 171 IQ
Am I missing something? The thumb shows a poison shroom, but there was none in the level.
also the poison shroom looks diffrent
7:17 "i just can't believe people used to watch tv this way... and not complain"
that's interesting to think about.
i think desaturated smb1 is not very representative of the black & white tv experience. a lot of those sprites and stage elements rely on color to distinguish themselves from each other visually.
another thought i had about this is that tv shows made in the black & white era probably looked way better on black & white tvs than shows made in the color tv era did on those same tvs.
one more thought: i'm sure plenty of people did complain about how color tv shows looked on their (or more likely, their parents') outdated black & white tvs 😛
(... this was way too much thought to give an offhand remark)
SMB2 mushroom!! Hell ya..best song in all of Mario
Great, now be all hard boiled! No, do Operah!
Seeing Dave in grayscale seels really anachronistic
Dogs don't see grayscale!
People know what color dogs see because biologists have studied their eyes and their photoreceptors react to light wavelengths that correspond to blue and yellow, just like ours react to those of red, green and blue
Got some back to the future on NES vibes with daves color palate.
A-chroma-topsia
Conditions literally are NOT that hard to say. Just say the root words.
ghost cam is pretty cool :D
no, it isn't what ur dog sees every day. they can see some colors, but not all. fun fact: bluey is entirely in dog friendly colors.
Thank you Chris! B & W
0:47 I NOTICE YOU STREAM CHAT SENPAI! NOTICE ME, TOO!
Chroma meaning color shades. Ah-chro-mat-so-pia. You had it right the first time
Dave. I played my atari 2600 on a small black and white tv in the early 80s. I think we even used that when we got our nes
This would be a nightmare for me. I can't see anything in greyscale. I wouldn't be able to see any details or keep track of mario.
Lovve your vids!
I'd guess "ay-crow-mah-taupe-see-ah"?
5:28 No. Dogs are colorblind but they can still see some color.
There was an episode of After Hours where they did a variation on the confusion over Demi Moore's name, Kate was confused about the last name (is it more or moor?)
The kids show Bluey is how your dog sees
dgr doesn't understand dogs have semi normal vision
Stouffer's Whales!? WTF!? They're serving frozen dinners with whale meat!? They're endangered species! What's wrong with you!?
