Apple makes it sound like they have dozens of bands on their website but in reality, there’s only three sporty ones. The Sport Band, Nike Sport Band and Sport Loop. I’ve done dozens of workouts with every one of these loops in order to bring you this review!

When it comes to working out, my goto is to perform constantly varied functional movements at high intensity. Which makes it pretty hard to keep my Apple Watch on all the time. Because grinding my Apple Watch against a concrete floor is probably going to happen one of these days. My arms go through a range of different movements everyday so having the right strap on my wrist computer is pretty important.
Alright, so which Watch strap is best?
*Sport Band*
This is your basic band. This is the band that showed me that it was possible to use my laptop AND wear a watch at the same time. When it comes to working out, this is my least favourite band. Why? Because sweat tends to accumulate in the middle of the band. I’ll call this the “sweaty band feel”. I also found myself having to take the watch off completely after a workout to wipe off the back.
*Nike Sport Band*
So the Nike Sport Band is basically a regular Sport Band with a bunch of holes in it. This band allows for a bit more color than the regular sport band and addresses my biggest issue with the Sport Band which is the “sweaty band feel”. The holes in the band offer a bit more air to reach your skin you can focus more on your workout rather than the thinking about your sweaty wrist.
The Nike Sport Band is going to be your goto band if you’re a swimmer or a really sweaty gym person.
*Sport Loop*
This is my favourite Apple Watch strap to workout with.
This was one of the newer bands that was introduced with the Series 3 Apple Watch and it’s my favourite to workout with. It’s even quicker to adjust than the Sport Band and doesn’t suffer from “sweaty band feel” because the strap never really sits 100% on your skin. There velcro pieces allow for a bit of airflow between the band and your skin which is nice. I was initially concerned about the fabric watch band smelling after a while but it’s held up quite well given that I haven’t gone out of my way to clean it.
As a downside, this watch strap is made from fabric so it will absorb water. I’m not a very sweaty person when I work out and I don’t swim so my Apple Watch is never really submerged or really wet. It does take time to dry out so if you are sweaty and or swim a lot, don’t use the Sport Loop, go with the Nike Sport Band.
*Working out with the Milanese Loop and Nylon loop*
So how about the Milanese and Nylon loops? Personally, I wouldn’t recommend working out with either of them but if I had to choose, I would go with the Milanese loop because it operates similar to the Sport Loop. You can easily adjust the the size of the loop to fit your liking. The Milanese loop is the only loop-based strap that I’d use in a swimming pool as well. It will dry off much easier than the cloth based sport loop. None of this matters if you think spending ~$200 dollars on a watch strap is stupid.
Now I’m showing you too different looking loops in this video, one is a knockoff of the expensive Apple one. if you want to know more about the differences, check out that video.
The one strap that I wouldn’t workout with at all will be the Nylon strap. This is just a normal watch strap that sits either too loose or tight on my hand, isn’t as easy to adjust on the fly and gets pretty sweaty during a workout. Having it bounce around on my hand during a workout is extremely distracting.

Did a couple of workouts with the Apple Watch Series 4 before doing the torture test (ua-cam.com/video/GbOE1T2GAkw/v-deo.html). The Sport Loop is still my favourite BUT the sport loop that came with my Apple Watch Series 4 is SMALLER than the Series 3. Did anybody else notice this?

Nylon loop everyday ! And love the Nike sports loop for swimming because it doesn’t need time to dry .
Easy way to clean Apple sports loops & also nylon watch bands: put them in a laundry bag for delicates and put the bag in the wash. After you take them out they are dry in about 1/2 an hour or so.

Eat lots of vegetables, lean meats and clean carbs. Lift heavy, do HIIT. Most importantly, do it consistently for a year.

Hi Aaron, I've been struggling if I'm going to replace my nike watch band with a nike loop strap. But I'm also wearing my Apple Watch into shower everyday in order to keep it clean and I do not enjoy having the watch not on my wrist. I'm a tennis guy so might be sweating more than gym workout. Should I change it?

GoblinTheMaster It’s not waterproof, but it is sweat proof. Recommended to use for workouts, but not for a complete dunk or Swimming!!!

Well not really, they feel pretty durable. The thing that ruins the sportloop for me is the fact its pretty much allways wet and starts to smell really bad. I’ve been washing all three sport loops that i have but it gets smelly pretty quick...

I actually wear the steel milanese when working out. The mesh metal seems to eliminate sweat residue.

I also wear a milanese when i work out. I find it great as you can adjust it on the fly and it doesn’t get wet as some nylon. I like milanese better than rubber! 😊

Like it even more for working out than my Nike silicone band, because it adjusts way better to your wrist. While looking really elegant.
You sometimes have to correct it a bit because it gets just a little loose if you stretch your wrist or something, but it’s super easy to do. After a while you just adjust it subconsciously so it is always a perfect fit and it doesn’t bother you at all.

Just discovered the "sport loop" last week, totally agree with you. It is the most comfortable and best for working out. I get the most accurate HR readings with the sport loop for some reason. With the other bands I get periods of several minutes with no HR recorded. Maybe because of the better fit and slight stretch of the band it stays where it is supposed to. Thanks for the vid

Great review... except the sport loop is 100% waterproof nylon. It doesn’t actually ABSORB the water, it just gets in between the nylon threads. It’s fine for swimming with

Great video and super helpful. Don't know anyone else that has done such a no biased video. I have to try the nike band since I sweat a lot. Love the watch in the gym though.
I really dislike the Nike sport band. It catches my arm hair and even pinches wrist skin when I'm trying to fold the excess strap into the band. I'm using the smaller of the two bands to avoid all that extra thick silicone band wrapping up one side. The thinness of the solo loop is great, but when really sweating that solo loop will slide right off me. I'm going to have to try the sport loop next, even though I think its the worst looking visually. Will be for workouts only, for sure.
The sport loop is like pajama pants for your wrist. It’s super comfortable and more form fitting than the Milanese loop.

I just traded my iPhone 11 for an iPhone 15. I looked at numerous videos of yours. They are great and I love your dog. I just received my Apple Sportloop after having many third-party bands for my iPhone 11. So far I love it and think it is worth the money.
One thing bothers me though. The colors of the tabs on the end of these bands are not tasteful. My Ocean Blue band has an orange tab. Really? Why? The only thing I can think of is Apple wants to distinguish their bands from knock-offs. This would only be meaningful to an Apple fanboy, however. I am thinking of painting mine black but will wait a bit.

I use de sport loop for years. Ideal for fitness and swimming too. It does dry very fast. They are the only straps I use everyday!

You can make your dog where it and you will wear it at the tractor so you can truck ready to going with your phone if he's lost or just use it to GPS still Fake GPS tracker it's weird track your dog you can cuz tracking dogs is better and also do an exercise going out for one throwing out for run going out for swimming or better

As much as I love my Apple Watch, I cant justify paying $49 for a watch band. No shade on those who do. You do you fam.
They last a long time though. I have the band that came with my Series 1 for 3 years. Still works perfectly and is still reliable, with minor scratches of course.
