    Its encouraging to read insightful comments in regards to the sterotypes of First Nations. It's even more strength building to read the negative ones cuz it must have struck a nerve for them to realize that what he says is pretty much the truth and the truth does hurt those who's closed minded lives just been altered to accept the inevitable and the evidence is in plain sight when you visit a country who's leaders boasting itself as a leader in human rights n equality.

    @Ajidamoon It is always a slight against Whites. Other groups may be implicated too at times, but the intention is to use the term "racist" as a weapon against people of European descent and that in itself is racist.

    All we're asking for is for the government to respect the treaties and for Canadians to start respecting us. We never said we were like those other cultures, although we are empathetic to their plight. No Aboriginal person has ever said that people that have suffered shouldn't be given compensation, ours is simply outlined in a government document.

    Well said. I am a Canadian of European/British ancestry, and all I can say is that most of my own people are completely out of their minds. I dedicate my life to overcoming this madness in myself and others, and in the meantime, I will only support leaders and policies which treat the first nations of this land, the land itself, and all peoples of the world with respect, dignity, and understanding. The insanity has gone on too long.

    We can't change what happened over a hundred years ago. So we need to quit dwelling on it. How 'bout we start fresh with TODAY'S reality - which includes things like horseless carriages, and electricity. There's no need to forget history, but there's no need to dwell on it like it was last Tuesday. It's no way to move forward.

    @FitnessByMatt I couldn't agree more. Sadly this argument could go on and on, back and forth. It kinda makes me sad, and fearful that things in this country will never change. This video displays the regression this country is still going through. I blame the government just as much as anyone else. Theres a mentality and sense of entitlement thats gotta change. @Ajidamoon AGAIN, you could not have read my posts because I only mentioned taxes once. And yes, I agree that tax breaks for corporations can be excessive, however at least these businesses provide a service and jobs to people in the community. And tax free senior days are not exactly that. The tax is absorbed by the company offering the deal. Its only a discount on the purchase, the company still pays the tax so therefore its not really "tax free".

    @GusgusA1 Hey man, I work in aboriginal affairs as a historian, and I can tell you for a fact that before the end of the Second World War, native populations were taken advantage of at every turn by both the Colonial and Canadian government, as well as by commercial interests. Since then things have been improving, but tons of problems still exist.

    @GusgusA1 Actually, yes they are. There are several non-Native families that have Band funded housing both on my Res and the one I live on. Non-Natives are free to send their children to the Res daycare, the Res high school....and they do. They can and do get band funding that is the equivalent of welfare off Res. They can attend job training workshops, health care seminars, cultural workshops.....and they do.

If that was reversed and my kids had guaranteed money, house and education for free how would you feel towards me? The original programs were to move the 1st nation towards sustainability, how long does that take?The unsaid damage was to the students not there families and i know the families get the $.

    @FitnessByMatt I guess you missed to news, where a Native boy's hair was lopped off by a teacher's aid in Thunder Bay.....even after she had been told by the school he was growing it for ceremony. She took it upon herself to give him a haircut, made him look at it in the mirror and said "there, look at you now". She wasn't even fired. They deemed forcibly cutting someone's hair wasn't assault, and decided charges were not in the public's best interest.

Or denies your Nation the use of its own funds because they don't think a business loan is a good idea. Do you know how many Res in Canada don't have drinkable water? Over 100. One of those Res' has been on that list for 13 years now. Would that fly in your neighbourhood?

    @ Henaway, no one is "dwelling" on history. Treaties were signed that were never honored. A treaty is a legal agreement, and they must be fulfilled, but they were not. Should we just stop "dwelling" on the constitution while we are at it? The treaties were broken on the "white mans" side, so how about just start from square one, and give the natives their rightful land, natural resources and mineral rights back, and then we can move forward. This time without any treaty.".

    @Ajidamoon And FYI I didnt keep moaning on about people that dont pay taxes. I mentioned it once. Again I encourage you to read what I have posted. I would like to say that although I think Wab could have said it ALOT better there is no place for stereotyping and racism in our world, non-native against native but also native against non-native.

  • @pykezer
    @pykezer 13 років тому

    @GusgusA1 Sorry, just saw your reply. Not sure how my job makes me biased, as its basically to understand Native-Government historical relations as thoroughly as possible. In any case, many of the Federal governments activities in support of First Nations are not legally required. They are continued, however, because it is widely recognized that it is the morally right thing to do. The treatment of natives has long been known as Canada's "national shame", and I, for one, am glad that's changing.

    @Ajidamoon most of the programs are funded through applications made through INAC or from funds originated through parent projects through INAC and the funds have trickled forward. I say if we all want to be equal we need to act like it. I am not the one putting the native spin on it but it seems that is the first place you jump. "don't attack my culture because I am first nation".

    @7thswimmer Exactly. The closest NDN gas station to where I live most of the year, is almost an hours drive away......not quite worth it to save a buck. Its funny how non-Natives never complain about tax breaks when they are lining up on the nearest Res to get their smokes cheaper.

    @FitnessByMatt Yet a month later when a woman's pony tail was cut off while riding they bus, they certainly charged the late-teen who did it, with assault. That to me, is a real issue. @GusgusA1 That is the part you don't get. Other Canadians are ALWAYS telling is exactly how we are NOT equal to them. How we are NOT as Canadian as them. Living traditionally has nothing to do with the type of home you reside in, your clothing, how you get your food. These programs are in place to try and undo the damage that was done when others decided cultural genocide was the way to go as we were not equal to them. .

  • @FitnessByMatt
    @FitnessByMatt 13 років тому +1

    @clgcguy Some groups have nothing but pity which they need in order to guilt other people into supporting them so it's not surprising to me that this nonsense continues. As for George, he is so out of touch with reality on multiculturalism that I feel sorry for him.

  • @GusgusA1
    @GusgusA1 13 років тому

    @Ajidamoon No, other Canadians did tell your families that but most now days do not. We are frustrated that the hand up has been taken advantage of and has now become a handout and part of the culture. If you want to be treated like your ancestors live like them I said nothing of tradition to me that is a set of values and beliefs. To each there own in that respect. Most people want an even playing field this is not cultural genocide just equallity

    $5 per year and land per tribes member at the time of the treaty (not per member today). Also school only for agriculture, not hairstyling. No tax paid on reserve or certain retailers or if a vehicle is delivered to band land from the dealer or on income earned on status land or while working for a native owned company. A paret or grandparent may have some shame or embarrassment it is not the next generation this keeps getting brought up in my opinion to only start racial riffles.

    [1] Native people commit public drunkenness and violent crime far in disproportion to their levels of poverty, so no, it is not poverty.
    [2] Natives were paid $1.9 billion for Residential School abuses - real or not - so yes, get over it. Either take the money and drop it or don't take it and keep guilting everyone. Taking the money and continuing this guilt trip is extortion. Not forgiving someone who apologized is abuse. Every race has experienced trauma.

And I get the best of both worlds being both Black and Native. In order to listen (and understand other people's truth) you have to stop talking once in a while. The only thing a person can do is educate themselves and speak up. I am doing that. Unfortunately there are too many people out there that are too angry to listen to what anyone has to say. Many people only want to hear opinions that agree with what they believe and not consider any other points of view.

    I agree with the stereotypes but Indians are not the only people that have stereotypes. Also, why do Indians think they are the only people in this country who have mold in their homes or that live in dilapidated houses? There are many people who do not live on a reserve that live in the same kind of conditions. You should be asking what is the Canadian Government doing about problems in homes that aren't on reserves too. Everybody should have a decent home to live in.

(I'm presently outside the US; I'm a soldier, and I go where the military sends me.) Geez, I thought we had the market cornered on snide and mean remarks; apparently not. If Canadian Native Americans are anything historically like US Native Americans, it was a brutal history on both sides.

    @marmalaide5555 He didnt make a clear point. Did you listen to whay he was saying? He only expressed an opinion. He didnt give all of the facts. He left out some very important facts. Unfortunately some people only hear what they want to hear and agree with that. This video is all about reiforcing opinions that dont cover all aspects of the issues. Read the replys to this video and you will see that there seems to be very few people that know what they are commenting on.

    @lucidxd Back to name-calling eh? So much for the possibility of a constructive conversation. No i wouldn't say purchasing a concert ticket is like a contractual agreement. Thats ridiculous. I sincerely hope the outstanding treaty agreements get settled and everyone gets what is fair. In the Canada of today, aboriginals have many advantages and opportunities over non-status citizens.

    @GusgusA1 I would LOVE to be considered equal to all other Canadian.....but I live in this world as an ndn woman and I know that just isn't the way it is. I've felt it my entire life. Abolishing the Indian Act, and Reservation system won't make us equal. The "regular" Canadians have already made it quite clear that we aren't.

    @marmalaide5555 It should take the passing of said generation. I am well aware of when the schools closed and what did and did not happen not all first nation peoples were effected but i have seen a person get a cheque and get it cashed, then pass out the money to 27 other individuals under 20, it made me sick. The ones that were not effected took advantage of ther grandmother. Many other instances i could speak of as well. It IS a choice. Yes I do have it. Same gen in fact as the schools.
