Thank you everyone for tuning in! I just wanted to add that you can use different colors with different types of wood. One of my most popular was a dark wood with regular brown twine. I added it in 2 places. On the neck and near the base. Gave it a rustic look. Also use medium CA glue. I ran out and used thin and it was a bit messy. Thank you all for your support!
That little sharpening set up is absolutely genious I have considered making 1 with my belt Sander also but recently i broke down and got a 1hp rikon grinder and 2 cbn wheels with the wolverine jig and varigrind very happy with it bit that little set up you had could've saved me 1000 bucks lol love you videos watch every week great job
...cool addition...think I'll try it on my next pot. And thanks for showing your sharpening station...my sander's base is different, but I'll figure it out... By the way, to double my sales, I cut my projects in half...😉 Matt
Fantastic. Really nice. It might be good to have a pack of colored sharpies to touch up any spots on the twine, if needed. As always really nice project. And a nice twist to a vase!!!
Please tell me , as a newbie without any bowl gouge in my arsenal...what should I begin to learn with ? Thank You again for your continued brilliance and taking the time to share and edit.
@@LBrown518 Thank you! I appreciate that! I know a lot of people start with carbide tools. Traditional tools like the bowl gouge require a way to sharpen it. I use a 1/2 bowl gouge 95% of the time. I prefer traditional tools if you have the means of sharpening.
Very creative! Apply a small amount of CA to stiffen the yarn; drill a small hole and insert the end and then wrap. Bury the tag end in the yarn with a drop of CA. Yes, medium is not as messy. BTW, I have watched a couple of your videos. You mostly use one tool- spindle gouge or bowl gouge? Looks like a spindle gouge. Wife says I have enough wood to build Abe Lincoln a log house! Thanks for sharing the turning and the yarn wrap.
Thank you! Ya the hole to put the end in is a good. I use a 1/2 bowl gouge. Instead of building the cabin you could throw the wood on a lathe and make a bunch of decor for inside the cabin. Thanks for watching!
Great sharpening setup! Just curious, why don't you use a roughing gouge to clean the bark off before you start the proper turning? That would make your bowl gouge last longer and the need to sharpen it less often. I learnt the hard way to stop turning before the wood gets to the tear-out stage and finish it off with a chisel so there's no hole in the bottom of my work.

Thank you! I just couldn't get myself to buy one of those. So I just made the setup I use.
Cool vase
Thank you!
Great little project. I like the new feature. Thanks.

Interesting use of a chuck within a chuck!
Yes it is.
The twine is a nice addition.🙂🙂
Thank you!
Great project with a fantastic addition. Way to go!

That's a great idea with the sharpies!
Didn't think of that!
Always learning.👍👍
Hey Rus, another great video. What a difference a little twine can make. Think I'll give it a try. Until the next one...Dan
@@Danseadorf Thank you Dan!
This one is a bit plain. You can get pretty creative with it.

I've just always used the bowl gouge. I use minimal tools. It makes sharpening simpler.
Great work as usual! The sharpen tool for bowl gouge, where can I found it? Amazon link possibly? Thanks
@@dregag4415 Thank you! I got mine at a local store but this is the same one.

I should have asked in my original comment but didn’t think about it until later. Is the colored twine from Amazon?
Yes it is. I can give a link if you like.
So, is this wood old and dry? Can you use fresh cut?
This wood is most of the way dry. You can use green wood but there's a risk of it cracking.
Do you sell any of this online?
@@bigshady7875 no sorry. I only sell at local craft shows.
Online is a waste of time. 20 pens on etsy since 2009, 20,000 pens at craft fairs since 2009.
@@abrahampetrow6750 where did you get that stat? A friend of mine sold over 100 pens last year on etsy.
