This song completely smashes my heart every time I hear it. My best friend died of AIDS, and this song, word for word, describes everything. I could have written this and not changed a line.
Bob has been playing with Seth Myers house band this week , and it brought back memories of listening to this tape back in the day . I hate to sound old here, but damn the 90s were so powerful and emotional. Artists really dug down into their poor souls and delivered genius music . I'm proud to cry thinking about the last great decade in rock
And it's strange to watch the things we had all fade away It all seemed so certain, it all seemed so permanent And I'm sure no one else suspected anything was wrong It all seemed so perfect; our house was built on good intentions Promise not to see it end this way So unsure of what remains at home Nothing left in common We faced up to all the fears, it's time for consequences It's gone and I can't find it You're gone and I can't fight it Divvied up the friendships that we used to share Try and understand me if I stumble now and then Some miscommunication stood between both you and I You made your decision, here's hoping it's the right one But God knows this decision you can change And I can never hold you down again this I understand So please forgive the tears there's no turning back It's gone and I can't find it You're gone and I can't fight it
I was late to Husker Du, only discovering them when "Warehouse" came out, not long before they broke up. I was introduced to the deeper punk scene in college in 1986 by a guy in our dorm was a Dallas punk. I've loved Bob's music since "Workbook". I first saw him in Atlanta in '88 for the "Black Sheets of Rain" tour. I've seen him five or six times...always amazing.
Takes me back to age 14. This is the first 12 string song I truly enjoyed. Its a very well written song. Nice of Mr. Mould to donate this song to this album.
I just noticed one thumb down; jeez, why even visit? This is so beautiful, one of Bob's best, and you never heard it unless you bought No Alternative back then. Oh well. Seems like in our little world today there is always a negative and we can never agree on anything.
Listened to this song tonight for the first time in 20 years. Amazing.
This song absolutely blew my mind when it came out and it hasn't lost any of its power almost 30 years later. Absolutely incredible.

Hold On - sarah mclachlan
breaks me, the memories cling ✌️
wow i used to listen to this album when it first came out... god I'm getting old.
+kim montesano I had this album when and at the cover was a boy, I lost it , then bought it back with the girl on it
+kim montesano Same here. I come back so many years later and think, "Why didn't I get into THIS band more back then?!"
tell me about it. this album would get me down that long road home every night back in 93. just hearing it again brings back that feeling of youth.
I was 15-16 when this came out and I thought I was so cool that I had this CD
Yeah man. Me too. I listened to it as I fell asleep in like the 8th grade.
Still one the saddest and yet beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
Fave track from a great compilation, please release on Spotify
And it's strange to watch the things we had all fade away
It all seemed so certain, it all seemed so permanent
And I'm sure no one else suspected anything was wrong
It all seemed so perfect; our house was built on good intentions
Promise not to see it end this way
So unsure of what remains at home
Nothing left in common
We faced up to all the fears, it's time for consequences
It's gone and I can't find it
You're gone and I can't fight it
Divvied up the friendships that we used to share
Try and understand me if I stumble now and then
Some miscommunication stood between both you and I
You made your decision, here's hoping it's the right one
But God knows this decision you can change
And I can never hold you down again this I understand
So please forgive the tears there's no turning back
It's gone and I can't find it
You're gone and I can't fight it
close to perfect 👍
Still come back and listen to this a couple times a year. Bought this the year it came out.
I remember buying this album. This song speaks truth to my life right now.
Still beautiful after all these years, and still has the same impact emotionally. Love ya, Bob :)

“Divvied up the friendships we used to share.”
Such a sad but true fact of life
@@joelfortenberry7865 I absolutely love this song btw. One of my favs.
"Divvied up the friendships that we used to share" 😭
Heartbreaking song. When there's nothing left but goodbye.
Took many years to realize that this was a "coming out" song.
Always my love!
Still playing this in 2019
I use to have this tape. It had a hidden track on it by Nirvana.
Me too +alex chalakee.. I found out years later, the name of the song is "Verse Chorus Verse"
Still listening in 2017
2020 ...timeless
I've transferred all my music to Spotify and this wonderful song isn't available on there and it makes me sad.
Yes!! It’s maddening.
This song has a defect in the middle of it, on two different versions of the CD I own of No Alternative. I wonder if anyone else had this problem.
My copy had it too
✌️
There are multiple epic songs on this album. Not sure I hear nirvana was that a hidden band or song?
very oasis like
btw, what is love?
Credit where due, to artist and channel 👍
