You know up until about 2000, such missions were called Refuge. It was completely anonymous for addicts and homeless. Not even police would be told who was living in these missions. They had to have a warrant for a specific person. You could actually get yourself together. Jobs were plentiful. Sorta like salvation army jobs. Missions were the center of a social network of groups and organizations offering everything from voc tech learning to drug facilitators and rehabs. A Capuchin mission turned my life around.
