First of all I want to say sorry for both not finishing Part 3 of Gasoline yet and if I made a mistake in the characters.
The reason Nightmare thinks '404? So that's where you went-' is just a simple reference to the story idea and a book Came back on Wattpad.
Why did I make my Nightmare act like that?
Well, me and my friend honestly think that my Nightmare would act like that, getting annoyed that his brother started tipping the balance of positivity and negativity by eating the apple.

This was amazing! One of the reasons I subscribed to you is, that you actually know the bad guys have been through some really rough stuff and we can't really blame them for becoming what they are now. They were all pushed beyond their limits and broke. Also I hate shattered dream for some reason. no offense but he has literally no reason to eat the apple since he basicially went through nothing and then he acts like nightmare is the bad guy who made him like this.. Also he looks like a nightmare rip off-

Hey, uh could you explain why Nightmare would be someone who holds the balance thingy. Cause from the stories I know of Dreamtale uh Nightmare chops the Tree of Feelings (?) down which means he would be the one who disrupted the 'balance' of emotion. I don't really know, but is there a different story with Fgod.
I apologize for not answering sooner, but I can try to explain it.
If Nightmare is in an Fgod Story or in a Misunderstood Bad Sanses, usually he ate the apple because:
1. The balance was tipping to the Positive side.
2. He found it as an escape from the villagers.
Or other reasons aswell, it just depends on the story.
He ends up chopping the tree due to practically being in slight madness at that time.
But either way, he does regret his actions, well maybe not killing the villagers since they tormented him, so he tries to fix/maintain the balance.
So the balance, it's a concept that's usually applied to Fgod (Forced God of Destruction) and/or Misunderstood Bad Sanses.
Basically, in the OG multiverse life and death has a balance, right? Well in the concept of Fgod and/or Misunderstood Bad Sanses (MBS) there are 4 balances instead with their keepers respectively:
Life & Death (Reaper's Toriel & Reaper)
Good & Evil (Chara & Frisks)
Positivity & Negativity (Dream & Night)
Creation & Destruction (Ink & Error)
All our tasked to maintain the balance, from the Charas controlling the Good and the Frisks controlling the Bad.
Though not all of them know of the balances:
Ink
Dream
The Frisks
RT!Toriel & Reaper (They only know of their balance)
Which leaves, Error, Nightmare & co., the Charas as the scapegoats of the multiverse, due to the good guys thinking what they are doing is right, even though they are tipping the balance.
