Pierre McFarlane he did audition for the gig after Cliff died. Get your facts straight. Metallica and Les have talked about it in interviews over the years.
VileVermin Lol yeah. James said “too good”, Les said they thought he was a freak. That everyone else was there in black clothes and Les showed up in clothes that didn’t match and overall just a funky outfit
Straight up. Les is the badest bassist in the history of human beings. Never has one man directed the direction of his band and demanded their respect. As a bassist.

Was that a bit of Baba O'Reilly at the end there Les was channeling? Sounded like an homage to John Entwhistle. Pretty damn cool. Plus the Metallica bit he threw in at the end lol.
I agree. I saw them on 1990 at the Paradise in Boston. We went to Lynn Mass. Blew lines for 2 days & my parapalegic brother(John"yack" Mason)& all us bros (12 more) security put his feet at the center stage..we 'horseshoed around him. take a look at the interview he gave after not getting the gig (its among here somewhere, i'll post the link) he knew Cliff but, among other things, he says that he kinda didn't know how big metallica was, that he wasn't really a "metal guy" and he did know they were becoming a big thing, but hadn't really paid much attention and basically came to the rehearsal/interview and he asked if they would be open to "jam" a little. it was basically an instant NO from the rest... and that's was basically it lmfao. ua-cam.com/video/uS6gwp6SeXM/v-deo.html he's the best 😂❤
This is the kind of content that makes me question...." What the hell have I've been doing with my life that I missed this?...." I can only hope to catch Claypool Lennon delirium next time Around... I wish I could have pulled my head out of my ass the last 15 years.....ugh.
Is it just me or does every single song sound the same when played by Duo De Twang? "This is a cover of 'Stayin' Alive'! *jams in F pentatonic minor for a couple of minutes* " "Thank you, this is 'Jerry Was A Race-car Driver'! *jams slightly faster in D pentatonic minor* " "Thank you, this is 'Wynona's Big Brown Beaver'! *plays the actual song...which just happens to be a couple of minutes of jamming in D pentatonic minor* "
What I always tell to people (I play guitar aswel): it doesn't matter how difficult your music is too play or how many chords you play. It's about if people like it or not. But I think you are right. If I would go to see a gig of Les, I think I'm done after three songs.
@@nickklok4955 Yeah, I love Primus live and everything. Saw them two nights in a row at Royal Albert Hall a couple of years ago. They played everything from Seas Of Cheese and Green Naughahyde in their entirety to two mixed sets with some intermission in between. But this particular project just sounds like the same song over and over to me.

You are wrong Les...You are the coolest guy on the planet.
Yeah I'm glad that he didn't get the Metallica gig because indeed he is the coolest guy in the world! Love you Les
Taking a moment to point out Les' top rank crowd interaction skills.
Les claypool is one of the coolest people on the planet let's be real
Les Claypool is my spirit animal
JJ Ulizio les is more
Les regularly blows me away as I find these gems. What a badass.
I’ve often said the same thing Mr. Claypool, an absolute classic!
The best bassist ever ❤
this is the first time of me hearing these guys man they good
What a fantastic showman!!!! His style is such a colourful cartoon character
Unmatched
Thanks Les. I now no longer need to listen to any other song. Bless.
Les is the a reason why I play bass ! Keep it up brother !
Me too. Just got a new bass for Xmas
He's the reason I don't!
The "Shit Like This" is what sets you worlds apart from most bass players, Les. How how I never seen this video before today? LOL
A fucking dobro bass, that's cool as hell! Only Les Claypool
Been a big fan of Primus for 30 years-ish.
Les sounds great when he is singing his own songs...
"Now" it's the greatest song ever written, but I've been wrong before too.
i'm so glad he didn't get the metallica gig
Get yer facts straight bud. LC never applied to be the bassist for Metallica. He would have overshadowed the entire group.
Pierre McFarlane he did audition for the gig after Cliff died. Get your facts straight. Metallica and Les have talked about it in interviews over the years.
They told him that he was way too good of a bass player.....
not "too good" but "too weird" :-D

I don't know how I missed this on UA-cam; however I do have several live versions, plus original CD _Four Foot Shack_
I would trade the entire Metallica Catalog of music for this one song alone, Les.
Perhaps......perhaps
I expected angry metalica fans where they at
Right here. Still floored. You’re a sick fella

Yikes ...... that Resonator solo with the bend at the end was absolutely blistering, but the whole song war 9 minutes very well spent !!
Well, I am very excited to have found a new group to listen to… well done boys..

Les is singing, doing rhythm, playing bass and percussion at the same time!
