The handle is made of hard plastic, and while the blade itself would be great to use with two hands, the handle is one handed only. so my question is, which direction should I expand the handle I'll be making? I was thinking towards the blade since there's 10cm of "excess" blade completely unsharpened, but I'm looking for advice.
I have a similar situation. I have a 26" Tramontina machete. It is not very comfortable to use with one hand. In addition, the blade itself is prone to bending when swinging and striking. I am planning to replace the plastic handle on this machete and lengthen it by using some of the blade material and drilling an extra hole. Also, to reduce the tendency to bend, I plan to create several parallel grooves on the blade. I'm going to use a special tool for this. 3 or more cutting discs mounted on a shaft and separated by washers.
Mainly because i like the rounded feel on machetes. I am thinking of doing it on a machete next time i make one just to try it. Or maybe on a big bowie knife that should be coming in the next couple of months.

A 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and turps.
