It's good to see you again my friend we sure have missed you in the last year I hope you and your family is doing well I have been listening to you for the probably the last four years to five and yes you got me hooked on vinyl I've been listen to it every since thank you so much for bringing it back into my life I appreciate that I thought records would never come back when I was a little boy that's all I ever done was collect records iron my money from baling hay and cutting grass to buy my records I lost a lot of my all good records that I wish I had again but don't worry my friend I'm collecting more thanks once again Michael I hope we get to see you soon thanks for the video and God bless👍🙏🎸📻🎶🎹🎼🎻
12:20 Hey! We found Charlie brown's teacher! Wonk, wonk , wonk! Ah, just horsing around! You gotta laugh at all the ridiculousness happening now, otherwise you'd go crazy! On a serious note, some fantastic gear here!👌
I’ve been to one show, saw the prices for everything and then got the “What am I doing here?” feeling, like I was sneaking into a club where I didn’t belong. Still, it’s enlightening to hear mega and semi-mega systems with no pressure to buy, but I’m not sure of the point of it all. Some reviewers mention it as a social event, but I never really felt it to be that. Hifi listening is mostly a singular pastime from what I’ve seen. Thoughts/opposing points of view?
The listening itself can be and usually is for one person, but the rest of it can be social, similar to a book club. You can congregate to discuss what equipment you like, you can join clubs for let's say Rega turntables and discuss mods. You can discuss what records and details about recordings you like, you can discuss your favorite cables, etc, etc. The shows are for those people, people who are really into it and who really enjoy it. If you follow Macintosh amps you might want to go see what 's new this year at the show as opposed to going to a local shop. The people at the show, particularly if they are the manufacturer, should have more details than a shop and like you said, no pressure to buy anything. I think the shows are for those people that really enjoy audio and that have been doing so for a while. I don't think it's for the person looking for their first set of $500 speakers. Those people are still torturing themselves on what to buy and have a long way to lgo to listen to their system and enjoy the music. That's a different mind set- those people constantly looking for what is the best. Not to say that the show shouldn't have more entry level products to showcase. An entey level system can be enjoyed just like a high dollar one.
YOu might have not done enough exploring while you were at the show. There are many fairly high end sounding products these days, at really affordable prices. Schitt Audio, ELAC, Zu Audio, Hegal, PS Audio Sprout, Topping... the list is long.
Michael, I honestly wished you NOT talked over Mr. Sanders when he was reponding to your comment! As a Martin Logan owner, I wanted to hear what this part ledgenary founder of the company was trying to say..... also, thereminists DISLIKE the term 'spooky' when refering to the instrument. Ms. Rockmore made that clear in the performance video she and Robert Moog made.
Me too! I’m always adding to it here and there. But after several cross country moves the vinyl collection made it thru. And I’m ever grateful I kept it as bulky and heavy as they were to box up.
The opening of this presentation with the Theremin was amazing, and FINALLY, the Beachboys mystery instrument revealed!! (so many got it wrong!) As a keyboardist from the 60ies and owner of Moog and Arp synthesizers as well as a Moog 'Etherwave' I surely appreciated the nod ((O: The ONLY instrument you play WITHOUT touching it !!
Didn't you guys at Stereophile say this "wasn't the time for audio shows" and you "weren't going to cover RMAF" which was scheduled less than 30 days from this show???
IM starting to get it, its far easier to trek to an audio show and get to hear a TON of different gear, than it is to dick around scheduling appointments at a local dealer who maybe carries a small handful of brands.
A semi-funny story: I went to the CAF in 2019, walked into the Salk room and stood by the door, and the rep invited a bunch of us into the back of the room. I’m standing in the middle of a bunch of people. A few tunes play, very nice. Then they cue up “Guantanamera” by The Weavers, and everyone around me - back, front, sides - starts singing along, as if on cue! I had never heard the song before that time - started looking around to see if I’d been punked.
It’s very interesting to me that the equipment keeps getting better but presumably for decades old records, the new records keep getting worse and worse… people are churning out the lowest quality stuff imaginable these days and people just aren’t doing enough to support the handful of labels that actually do put care and effort into their product. Maybe they get enough business, but they could certainly get more considering how many people supposedly love vinyl these days!
I have been to all CAF events except last year, Covid, and this year virtually no CDs and fewer records than ever. Most of the demo's were streamed. For their prices, VAC was the most disappointing. Volti speakers were THE ones to listen to!! tio Jimmy
@@tiojimmy3425 interesting… was curious as I’ve been all about record cleaners lately and stuck in this all records have noise mindset.. couldn’t imagine trying to sell $100k + systems based on the sound of a record. Hoping it’ll play through well for EVERY demo… Thanks for the real world input.
QUESTIONS FOR MICHAEL FREMER - (1) In some of your videos we can see you have tens of thousands of records. Did you ever listen to all of them, at least once? (2) Have you ever played a master tape of an album in a recording studio, or even in your home, and then compared the sound of the best available vinyl pressing on your top quality turntable, or even in those you find at audio shows - How far is the best vinyl from the sound quality of the master tape? 50%? 70%.? (3) Has there ever been a vinyl that was remarkably close or the same as the master tape? Thanks!
What was the deal with that turntable in the beginning that had 2 large platters, but the one below the one with the record on it, was spinning the opposite direction? For the life of me I cannot imagine why that is necessary. Any thoughts on that design?
That was the Kronos Audio turntable and the theory behind having the counter-rotating platter is to offset the forces caused by the main platter. I heard an early prototype at the Montreal Audio Show a few years ago; pretty impressive!
The pretentiousness is astounding. Does paying 30 times more for a setup, make the music sounds 30 times better, probably not. Rich persons market i understand.
This hobby has gotten way to out of hand expensive. I can't afford even a tiny fraction of the cost. Maybe 100 times lower price somewhere between 1k and 2k. So I buy used vintage gear which sounds every bit as musical as anything I hear for $200K at an audio trade show. Sansui integrated playing into iconic British speakers from the 70s sounds thrilling to me.
Most of the gear here would cost a kidney or two........
The best was Keith Emerson putting the " Theme From Magnificent Seven " in the Dylan tune .... Thanks Michael ...
Thanks Michael. I didn't realise QR codes were so versatile, you can scan them straight from video.
love the end 'commercial about k&L sound in Boston and Watertown Ma. I know you were an old WBCN DJ from the olden days!
The old K&L Sound ad you did over the pictures of turntable porn was brilliant! Thanks, Michael 🎶🔊✨
A rich mans very very expensive hobby, the price of speaker cable is amazing like something pulled out of thin air and people will pay those prices.
The nice thing is you don't have to play that game to get great sound!
And yet that expensive cable that's carrying the signal is plugged into a device with a 25¢ input resistor or a $2 capacitor.
Joe Bonamassa is a user.

glad i got my vinyl when it was cheap ,long live analogue

Yes,long live analogue.
Super cool, thanks for sharing.

Dueling Theremins! Now there's an idea for an album!
Michael, good stuff from Audio fest thank you. Can you tell me which electrical outlets and which speakers you are using at the moment ?
0:01. Love this Mom. More new records
Emperors new clothes

Exact!
And you don't have to feel obligated to buy anything!
Question, other than the internet, where would one inquire about seeking out old equipment for vinyl playing???
no problem using the qr codes, thanks.
Amazing Converstion right there from two intelligent individuals.
You need to review the latest Kronos table Mike
The prices are ridiculous. No need for reviews of the gear. Higher price better sort of thinking.
I consider every kit I can’t afford overpriced.

K&L sound, I miss the WBCN days
Jimmy Page used the theremin as well.
Whole Lotta Love best use.
Goodness, you were in my backyard and I didn't even know it!
Michael how the hell did you get that last K&L bit on the air?? 🤣
That was mild compared to the other stuff I got on the air!
When they’re playing records in those super system exhibition rooms, do you ever hear “surface noise” and such from the records?
Every record has "surface noise", although the extent of which is variable depending on a multiplicity of other factors.
I have been to all CAF events except last year, Covid, and this year virtually no CDs and fewer records than ever. Most of the demo's were streamed. For their prices, VAC was the most disappointing. Volti speakers were THE ones to listen to!! tio Jimmy

So, we're watching Analog Planet and Michael starts talking to a guy who is boasting an all-digital system.
QR codes most definitely work.
Yes. I got it to work too.

Doctor who wrote the book on Theremin?
Hey, you got my car in the background! Sorry I didn’t run into you

Codes work great.
Great video
Thanks
I would love to hear one of these systems to see if it's my system or my hearing that sucks.
Great Video

I would go to one of these audio fests if it wasn’t for the crap music they always play. The only tolerable thing I heard was ELP.

You are welcome, kid, now get off my lawn!
@@AnalogPlanet it should be hey punks get off the grass . 😝 . And now a message from the Sponsor . Buy low ,sell high.
Nice touch
Are masks still mandatory in the US?
Depends upon where
