You should experiment with Saran wrap. It's a useful material for quick shelter building as a water/wind-proof wall, roof, bedding etc. It also makes for decent cordage when tightly twisted if you need to bind something and be used as a way to gather/hold water or even for a Fresnel lens. Probably the most versatile yet overlooked pieces of gear you could have with you and it's not even heavy or bulky.
