- In this tutorial I will walk you through each step of making this medieval fabric with Substance Designer. You can follow along using the same files as me by downloading them here: www.drive.goog... , but you can also use your own!
If you're already at ease with Designer this video might be a bit slow-paced for you :) On the other hand if you're only getting started and know nothing about nodes, I suggest you watch the Substance Academy initiation course before jumping into this one.

Nice work Louise! You have a great, calm way of explaining.
Oh thank you!
I kinda need 100 more videos made by you. Amazing
aaw thanks! I made plenty more on the Substance channel :)
"Remember, not everything has to be procedural" This is such an important takeaway when working with patterns of such a complexity. Really great tutorial Lousie, thank you so much for sharing :)
Exactly! and thank you :))
This is the type of Designer's tutorial I was looking for. Your pace is perfect, your explanations clear, and most important you don't waste too much time on small adjustments that in the end don't much such a great difference.
Not everything has to be procedural is a very important quote to me.
I saw so many tutorials using tons of nodes just to make a shape that can be done quicker in graphic software instead.
Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much Daniele for that comment! I'm really glad you liked the pacing. And yes, the idea was to stay efficient and to make the most of Designer's strengths without loosing time with endless fiddlings!
Please, do more tutorials. That was one of the best tutorials I have seen. Easy to follow, well explain and not a nightmare where you don’t catch much because you have to watch it a few more times. It was excellent for me and would be even more excellent for a beginner. Thank you for doing this.
I'm watching this great tutorial without any prior Designer knowledge at all and it's great!
That technique to turn the non-tiling BMP into a tiling one was *chef's kiss*
Please make more, you have a real talent for this kind of content!
Louise - if you're ever in Goa - gonna buy you a drink/coffee/lunch :) This was so helpful - I followed along and got the same result and I LOVE IT! Thank you!!
It's such a shame that someone with your skill in substance only has one tutorial video on your channel and that's not even mentioning your attention to detail and the perfect pace with which it is delivered. PLEASE, if you get the time, do upload some more. Thanks for the amazing tutorial.
Ooh thank you Jan.. :) I guess I have no more excuse now :D I'll do my best!
@@louisemelin1129you still haven’t uploaded anything
Please make more tutorials, i loved watching this video. It's very inspiring ❤❤@@louisemelin1129
Thank you soooo much Louise!!! Definitely what I needed, the explanation is great, to the point. It's my first time using designer and learning tons thanks to you!
I watched this video without even know the basics of Designer and when i watch most videos for Designer, i don't understand how it works or what is going on. This video is the first one that is showing a more advanced material where i can fully understand what is going on and how it works. And secondly, there is no real other YT video showing how make such pattern fabric. Excellent tutorial. Now i got a sense of what i could do with Designer.
You said beginners can follow and they sure can!! Thank you for this great tutorial!
omg this is by far THE best Substance Designer I've ever watched. We need more of this juicy content! you made me not be afraid of substance hahah
I appreciate that this channel only has this one great video because it means 100% quality content on the channel. But still, i wish there were more tutorials like that.
This is the best tutorial ever, your soothing voice made the tutorial even easier to understand your process 🌟
This is the best SD tutorial i have watched so far. And I am not even into creating fabrics …
Once in a while i come back to this one. Im not a substance artist or anything i just love doing this one once in a while. Such a good tutorial

Thank you for taking your time and sharing your knowledge. It was a pleasure to listening and watching what you're doing.
Before watching this video in my texture making workflow there was zbrush and then substance painter for baking maps and texturing and of course I downloaded textures from the internet. Earlier I was interested in substance designer but after watching your video I realized how much it can help me in my workflow. Thank you 🥰
That's great to hear! Thank you!

And the way you talk; your flow is really adapted to that kind of video format! 👏🏼
Finally, I understood why in practice it makes sense to use this program. Thank you for your work!

Insane result, great tutorial. Went from never opening Substance Designer before, to creating something that detailed.
I did have to put the playback on 0.75 (although I should have probably set it to 0.5 as I had to go back to see what happened, quite a lot)
you have an angelic voice.
great tutorial.
This is a very well explained and easy to follow tutorial. Please make more! :)
This was literally uploaded within a month of me needing to make a fabric material in Designer for a class. AMAZING job.. so easy to follow and I enjoyed how you explained your process. Everything was simple, all adjustments were for a reason and not small/pointless, the pace was absolutely perfect. Voice was super calming to listen to as well. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so so much for your comment, it really means a lot! I'm glad it helped you in your project, I'll try to make more tutorials in the coming months!

Thank you for the lesson! Looking forward to the next video!
Really Good tutorial. As someone who is Learning substance designer now, I managed to follow and understand every step in the video. Really great video
It's this kinda videos why i pay my internet Bill. Thank you😊
Think this is my second or third comment on UA-cam. And I'm here before UA-cam. Great work, keep it up. Love it when a tutorial is teaching you how to do something, not where the buttons are, not how to install the program, windows, how to plug pc, etc... I think basic stuff should never be used in tutorials, just clear instructions on how to achieve things, maybe some thought process. Anyway, congrats
such a great tutorial. A lot of things that I didn't quite understand from other tutorials are starting to finally sink in after watching this one. insta subscribe with notifications ON
awesome tutorial, very well explained, clear step by step with high-quality audio, and a good explanation of what each node does, looking forward to more videos.
Thank you so much! More videos on their way as soon as I have a bit more time for myself :)
Looking forward to your next tutorial!
thank you!!
Great tutorial! Hope you make more of them
J'ai trouvé un petit accent frenchy et du coup j'ai tout compris ! Merci pour ce tutoriel de qualité
Great tutorial! You showed so much and great value! Adobe please hire her.
Done 😁
I started using SD back in 2018 when I was in highschool, I don't really know what I'm gonna do with it, I just enjoy the process of creating 3d materials from nodes. After completing my degree in filmmaking exploring other fields over the years, I've come to the conclusion that digital fashion design is my passion. I'm again exploring SD and various textiles. I want to follow a career path like yours being an artist and a part of the substance team. Would love to hear guidance and support!
Definitely continue doing tutorials and maybe I will get over the anxiety of intimidating node based workflows such as Substance Designer. Good stuff.
I definitely intend to do more of them, should be coming soon!
Sad to see you only have one video on the channel - this was great!
I posted plenty other videos you know :) they're just on the Substance channel now
Amazing tutorial and very pleasant to listen to!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was very cleanly laid out and you also provided the files you used in the video, very thoughtful. I will subscribe so that I can claim I was here when you blow up :)
