- Early in 1863, he was brought North by Senator Sanders. His first work in Summit County was in Hudson, where he remained one week before moving to Akron, where he lived the remainder of his life.
During the recital of his history, he related many interesting and laughable incidents.
His memory was quite remarkable and he seems to be as sound of mind as a much younger man. He claimed to remember considerable about the stirring times of the war of 1812 and says he was at that time a chore boy. Ultimately he had been sold and transferred 13 different times.
Once given the right to vote, he voted the straight Republican ticket and never missed an opportunity to get to the polling place. The old man used tobacco both to chew and smoke and is not adverse to a little whisky, now and then. The Huletts kept him until he departed from life. While with the Huletts, the old man was given large celebrations for his birthday on Christmas, which is also his birthday. He is certainly a remarkable man. - Розваги
Thank you for this amazing story.
He seems to have been an amazing man. I have more on him for future posts.
Fascinating tale from a time only a little separated from our own.
Probably felt 100 after working hard all those years.
My question is: is there any reason why a Black voice wasn't used?
