- John Branca discusses the importance of Estate Planning for celebrities.
“Estate Planning is very important, because a celebrity is a business, and when a celebrity passes away, the business goes on”
John Branca: "One of the dangers in estate planning, I mean, you could look at what's happened with the Prince estate, Michael had a will, and so it was clear who was supposed to manage the estate. There are too many celebrities that don't really think about this.
So, what happens in the case of Prince, they had no will, so a bank got appointed... appointed to run his estate, as a bank that knows nothing about the entertainment business. And then you have a bunch of statutory heirs that are the beneficiaries that are all sort of disagreeing with each other over what should happen, not the optimum results.
So, I think estate planning is very important because a celebrity is a business. And when the celebrity passes away, the business goes on. So, very important to think about succession."

Wow if that could happen to Prince, maybe I need to think about this myself

Many people only think in the moment and don’t take the time to think about succession, well said John Branca!

You can’t trust the banks to handle your affairs, you need to do it on your own.

Very well spoken about celebrities being a business, I never thought of that before. John Branca is very interesting.
It goes to show you, even someone as brilliant as Prince can make mistakes when it comes to crafting a will.
