    We were just in Lititz, PA yesterday. Great small town. We goto Amish Country often Intercourse, PA, Ronks, PA, Bird in Hand, PA. Just to drive around to see the farms and stores. All great places to visit and great food! If you ever get a chance go eat the buffet at Dienner's Country Restaurant in Ronks, PA. AMAZING food.

    Thanks for the journey. When we lived in NW Jersey, we would visit Lititz/Lancaster County every month and half to two months.
    The town is great around Christmas. We’ve been to the Bulls Head Inn, Wilbur Chocolates..both the old and new locations, Candyology..great selection of old time favorites, Roasters Coffee, A Tea Affair, Paw Prints, Zumaker Alley, etc…. It was sad to see JoBoys Brew pub go.
    We enjoyed feeding the ducks at LSP and the Christmas Tree Lighting.
    Since moving out of the area, we haven’t been back a couple of years.

    I lived in Lititz as a child from 1951-1958, long before all of the trendy shops came in. It was still sleepy and undeveloped in 1985 when a few of the street scenes in the movie Witness were filmed there. All they had to do was put 1930's era cars on the street and cover the sign for the General Sutter Inn.
    My favorite memory was coming out of the (old) elementary school on some days when the whole town smelled like chocolate. I miss the town I grew up in, but none of us can stop time. You did a lovely job on the city park. The best time of all is Independence Day if the floating candle displays are placed in the water.

      I never knew scenes from witness were filmed there. I'll have to watch it and look for the particular scenes. I was never there before 2022 and I had to admit I like the trendy shops and restaurants. But I do get the concerns about over development. It seems there's a lot of building going on on the south end of town. But I guess I'm a hypocrite because I'm contemplating moving there when I retire.
      My family and I were there for the July 4th celebration last year and it was nice

    Hmm Looks like a tourist trap $$. I wonder who nominated them number one perhaps themselves. It'd be interesting to know what they're their property taxes are and what the crime rate rate is across-the-board. I wonder how the local people can afford to shop and eat thise that make minimum wage.

    • @AlongForTheJourney
      @AlongForTheJourney  3 роки тому +6

      Absolutely not a tourist trap. Prices are reasonable restaurants prices are the same as other towns in the areas. The people just care about there town and keeping it beautiful. They were voted coolest town by Budget travel out of 924 nominations in America and was in there magazine... Great town. I'll try and do a follow up video around Christmas and it is just beautiful.

    • @Allaiya.
      @Allaiya. 2 роки тому +2

      If a nice, charming place to live is a tourist trap, then we need more of them imo. A lot of towns/cities all look & feel similar these days with the exact same national chains. I wouldn't be able to tell if I was in one state or the other, if not for the landscape.

    • @chrisd4432
      @chrisd4432 7 місяців тому

      Boy the cynicism there. Yeah of course. A place that is really nice is going to attract more tourists so it's going to be a bit more expensive. But I live in the suburbs of Philly and the property tax is here are actually higher and this certainly isn't a Tourist town. If you've been there, you would see that the downtown area is the tourist area, but there's a lot of suburban and more what you would think of as normal/ boring, not touristy areas to live. The food I found is no more expensive than any other restaurants these days. According to another UA-cam channel out here who reviewed it, they said the crime rate is 96% lower than the national average

    • @chrisd4432
      @chrisd4432 7 місяців тому

      The city of Lancaster is 9 mi south. So there's cheaper housing there and even closer to the town. But yeah people who make minimum wage generally can't afford to go out and eat dinner in restaurants as much as people who make more money. Places that are nice are where people want to go and move to so prices of housing tends to go up

    Went to Lancaster, PA for two days.All stores close by 6 and the only State wine and liquor store closes at 9 pm, the only place to buy such items. In the center part of town, everyone is off the streets by 6 pm. Amish country is off all around but how much desserts, pretzels and uncooked meats can you buy and use especially if you are living in a hotel room.
    Amtrak station to NYC and Pittsburgh is in town.
    Even the Walmart Superstore was only partially occupied by customers on a weekday night at 7pm.
    Not a real "happening place" like NYC or Philadelphia.
    Thought that I wanted to "Retire" there. Not anymore

    • @AlongForTheJourney

      Thanks for commenting. Lancaster is more laid back from Philly or Nyc for sure, but that's what some people want... Fields and grass and peacefulness. Which you can't get in the big cities. Been to Bermuda. Not impressed. Panama is very Hot, Humid and Buggy although English is widely spoken there as there is a large American retiree community.
      Caribbean is out as Global Warming is increasing the frequency and destructiveness of Hurricanes as well as rising Ocean levels.
      Certain American areas like the South, Florida, California and the SouthWest have droughts, large fires, tornados and flooding as a result of this too.
      You might try certain west coast sections of Mexico, although you do need to learn the Spanish language. Read a story of an American couple who retired there, was "befriended" by a Mexican banker who did their financial transactions. He emptied out their 1 Million dollar bank account, disappeared and the Mexican bank refused to make up for their lost funds. They are now completely poor.

    • @AlongForTheJourney

      Hurricanes?
      As for a "Happening Place", I like to visit Museums and attend Concerts playing Classical music, and maybe a play or musical.
      The only things happening in Lancaster are watching haircuts, and "dancing Pigs" led by a bearded Amish guy or a Biblical Musical.

      Don't know about all of that. Just went to a hot air balloon festival last weekend check out that video. There were thousands of people there with great music and bands. Lancaster has alot to offer and variety for many people.

    It really sucks living in a tourist town with all the people and cars everything is extra expensive for the locals

      But that's most towns. The tourism dollars are also what keep the restaurants, bars and stuff open.

      So what if I want to retire and move there? Would that make it worse? I guess? I see a lot of kids when I'm there visiting

      You got to want to live in a tourist town and expect everything. Traffic was horrible there on a weekend.

    How you expect tourists in Lancaster County since is well known is the most boring place in the entire country
    How a tourist can order a pizza or Chinese food at 10 o'clock at night since every place is closing at 8pm
    Boring to the extreme

      @@AlongForTheJourney not to mention it also houses a complex that builds rock concert stages and while I was living there Lady Gaga and U2 slipped into town to reherse foe their concerts.

      I guess as I get older I like boring. I was in the bulls head until almost midnight on a weekend recently. There are local bars open till 2:00. A.m.. granted most of them close at 10:00 p.m. during the week and a lot of them are open until midnight on the weekend. Late enough for me in retirement when that time comes out

      So you experienced racism there or did you think you did.? Are you talking a sideways look or did somebody assault you? If I go to North Philly and I get assaulted by an African American? Is that racism?
