Weirdly i noticed that the halls outside of her office had Canadian WW1 propaganda posters on the wall. It was very strange. Like I get that they're copyright free, but also.... seems like a strange correlation. I did enjoy the attempted accuracy with Jane's costuming though! Bonus points for a bonnet, which were removed for clearly no corset. lol
So my wife and I love watching hallmark movies. To us they are like a big fluffy blanket we can curl up with. Are the stories original? Usually not. Are they feats of cinematic glory? Usually not. But they are like putting on a big fluffy sweater and curling up with your SO and just letting the rest of the world slip away. This movie was none of those things. The story was all over the place, the characters unlikeable, and almost every scene had a cringe moment if not an entire cringe scene. Practically all the dialogue in the movie was so uncomfortable to watch. And hey I like a good cringe moment when it drives the narrative forward, but this was practically every scene, and almost none of it drove the story forward. I did love the book club members though and the truck driver was such a sweetheart. I adore the idea of a big burly trucker listening to Jane Austen on the road and having to pull over to compose himself. But for the most part all of the dialogue was just awkward and fell flat. It’s clear to me that the writer and director had no clear idea of what story they wanted to tell and it just went off in so many directions. And this is evident in how many plot points were left by the wayside; what happened with the ex boyfriend? What happened with the bff/coworker’s love life? Who did she choose? What happened with her manuscript? What happened with the bookstore/app? So many stories were started with no resolution. Even the romance between the two leads was basically undeveloped. They took one walk, that’s it. And that went suddenly to happy ever after. It just wasn’t an enjoyable journey. The one redeeming part for me was the line about the cattle at the end, that actually made me smile, I enjoyed the callback. But even that was ruined by the dialogue that followed. I agree with a previous commenter that after we finished it we did something we rarely do and immediately deleted it off our dvr. I mean they can’t all be winners I guess.
Wow, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Very insightful points! And yes, him getting into "cattle" after all in the end was a good choice. Hoping ht next one is a lot better! Thanks again!
Not just you guys, very poor. From the moment she kicked off in the store for not getting the book I was out of there. Meet cute it was not. She came across as a total Karen. Not for me.
For what it's worth, I add hard boiled eggs to Caesar salad at home and it's a great protein alternative to chicken. It's also delicious.
The vintage market scene was great.

Ha! As Canadians, we didn't even notice that. Great observations!
