    Wow, it's a joy watching your Kumiko work, Mike. To me, Kumiko has this meditational feel to it. I don't mind the repetitive aspects of it, it serves to keeping me on my toes, this being fiddly work requiring a high degree of accuracy. Love your channel, keep it up and rock on.

    Loved this Mike! I think the "diagonal" gridwork looks more elegant than the standard horizontal and vertical. I also really like the patterns that you can do with the diagonal. The only down side is that it becomes much more difficult to size the kumiko panel in a pre made frame. For example if I was going to make some kumiko for some cabinet doors that are already made I would have to do some complex math to get it to fit properly. I'm definitely going to give this a try though!! Thanks Mike :)

    • @MikeFarrington
      @MikeFarrington  5 років тому +1

      I really like the diagonal gridwork as well. Sizing these panels, the way I do it, is borderline impossible. I go the other way, build my piece around a pre-made kumiko panel. Give it a go, let me know how it turns out!

    Well, now i have another project added to my growing list of things i want to try. All that while i'm sitting here dragging my feet on a kitchen table project. It's been sitting in my garage for two months after warping slightly. Amazing how somewhat small problems completely derail my projects. I'm lucky that my wife doesn't throw a fit about the cars being in the driveway. CO hasn't gotten all that much snow this year, so i guess that's why she's being more understanding.
    Anyway - love your videos. Great work.

      Thank you. Give the sled a go, its not to tuff to build.

      Thank you for the feed back. Sometimes when I'm editing I am looking at the screen thinking to myself, no one is going to understand this. I'm happy to hear you found the presentation clear.

    More kumiko please! Your videos on this stuff are amazing! Would love to see you have a crack at a bigger project, or do a similar smaller one using only hand tools :)

      Thank you. I will circle back to another kumiko project at some point. I have a couple other projects to get done first. I would love to tackle a larger project, but unless I'm being paid, I just can't afford the time. My lantern build would be about the biggest I could do. I will probably do a video on how to do this with hand tools. I have a few ideas for jigs that will make this super easy.

    You know Mike, 90% of what you covered in this awesome video was so over my head it wasn't even funny. You're such a superb craftsman I'd watch you place old treasured magazines atop a 4' A frame ladder. I too, get jazzed when a new video of yours is launched if not only to see precious clips of you and the shop apprentice as well as your music suggestions. Roger Waters' politics notwithstanding, Pink Floyd is always a quality choice (I'm a huge fan of Mr. Gilmour). Finally, my quest to locate the true location of Xanadu is ever nearing thanks to you....From my family to yours, prayers and well wishes over the birth of your next child.

      Thank you very much David. I'm with ya on Roger, certainly a musical genius though. I am also a huge fan of David Gilmour. He has a great voice, and can play the guitar like no one else.
