Holy shit man this is relatable. Especially that fear he had over his ear.

I think the plugged ear is symbolic of being an alcoholic, keeping him at a distance from his wife and the world. Becoming sober was no big deal at all, just like lying only on one side or on his back to keep his ear getting plugged again. He just had to get used to it, and not forget, even when he was sleeping. Piece of cake? He would just have to learn to live with it (ie. learn to live sober). But see what he does from 24:46, though? He switches it, so that the thing which is no big deal is drinking champagne for breakfast. He flips things in order to equate the 'no big deal' of sleeping only on one side or his back with the 'no big deal' of drinking champagne for breakfast. Classic alcoholic tactic of self-sabotage.

'A small go9d thing', you mean. Yeah, that was awesome. The baker was an interesting character.

Raymond Carver had a difficult life. He had very tiring jobs. With writing he had rest. He was a really friendly person you know.

You sound like Dustin Hoffman in the Rainman when you do Inez. I personally don't like changing voices especially when she is attributed throughout the story "she said"

Hydrogen peroxide is great for flushing bugs out of the ear. Carefully pour up a teaspoon, lay down
on your side, and have someone pour it in. The bug will bubble right up, crawl off or fly away. If you
don’t have someone to pour in hydrogen peroxide, or if you’re out of it, well, you’ll probably go crazy.

Life hack: unlike the mineral oil glass in the story, do NOT drink champagne out of the hydrogen peroxide glass
