Dan, you, sir, are a brilliant guitarist, and, which is more, a gentleman. The Darkness are, and always have been, a breath of fresh air. 'Dinner Lady Arms': a perfect rock song.
I'm going to pick my Studio Vintage Head & Cabinet today here in Hollywood California! Saw & heard the demo from Steve Smith from Marshall at NAMM 2019.
Very exciting to hear, Jose. Please report back on the overall quality of the cabinet itself and it's speakers. Of course the speakers will require some break-in playing time before fully coming into bloom. Should be a very pleasing rig, just plug straight in and it's all there.

@@montag4516 I sure will! Set it all up and power away with that classic Marshall sound! All the best!
I feel like Marshall is really nailing it lately, putting out good amps for struggling musicians, and for bedroom jammers! When I was a kid the only good Marshall amps were 50+ watts and expensive! The small and less expensive amps sounded like trash. Now they have several offerings for under $1000 that sound fantastic
Truly classic sounding ready to go, plug in and play amp. Especially for of us who like to keep it simple as possible. Any idea how close to the Studio Classic JCM 800 the Studio Vintage could get with an appropriate drive or distortion pedal in the chain, for those times when that tone is desired. I also wonder how this head would sound through a quality, vintage 15" speaker, more fatness and oomph?
Dan is a beautiful human being. Beside his mighty handsomeness (the classiest and most gentle man in modern Rock and Roll) and perfect playing (he stands next to Malcolm Young, not exaggerating), he seems to have a good personality and lovely attitude.
SOMEBODY HELP ME OUT HERE: At time stamp 1:58..........what is the name of that tune, and who recorded it??? I know I've heard it before, but can't remember. Thanks in advance.
I’m totally getting one very soon. Maybe getting the 800 as well. Still super pissed they didn’t do a 12 inch combo. Really lame of you Marshall. Even though I love you so much, that was really lame. Not one person actually believes the 10 inch speaker was preferred in the blind tests. Not a real test anyway. Yet still, I will buy this amp head. I have many Marshall amps, and it’s just too bad I couldn’t get the ultimate touring combo. Which would have been this in a 12 greenback. That being said now that I’ve vented, a good addition for ya to consider for this new studio series would be a 20 watt vintage modern. But with a goddamn 12 inch greenback!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, I don't buy into their "boardroom panel preference" for a 10" in the combo. It's a real slap in the face to their customer/potential customer base. Indeed a single 12" greenback would've been splendid and would have sold like hotcakes. Keep in mind that somebody, one person at Marshall had the final say-so to go with the 10". I suspect the real reason(s) was they wanted to sell more heads and separate cabinets, and/or they had an overstocked warehouse of 10" V-types they wanted to unload. Oh well.
I bought my Silver Jubilee combo because it came with the 12” Greenback in the combo. And it’s an oversized cab so it has a nice low end signature to it.
Because the venue don’t allow you to and if you go over 100 db you get fined 5000 bucks. That happened to Motorhead all the time but they didn’t care they just paid the money because they are not going to play at a low volume period.
It sounds fantastic to me. Ya might be drawing that conclusion because there's no bass player except for part of one tune. Cranked Marshalls sound different in a full band setting because the bass player is blending. Listen again very carefully at the tune here, where the bass player is performing as well. You think THAT has "way too much treble"??? Because it sounds pretty damn sweet to me. Nearly identical to a big original Plexi being cranked. Me: long time guitarist/lead singer/blues harp/stage performer spanning decades. I've owned several Marshalls, including a 50w JCM 800 and then a 100w JCM 900. This new SV20 sounds BETTER. So what if it's not quite as loud, that's the whole point. 20 true watts RMS is plenty for most small to mid sized venues. Believe me, I can relate to Dan about having to crank big Marshalls to get the true tone of those power tubes. Too much distortion with a JCM when you try to compensate by rolling up the pre-amp section at a lower volume. Both of my JCM's didn't have the full potential of their tone from the power tubes unless I was making everyone's ears bleed. But this SV20 really solves that problem.
His tone sounds so muddy. But watching him play, He seems like a guy that cranks the volume and tone pots. The playing is amateur at best. Try a different player
Muddy?!..ha.Time to clean those ears. It’s super trebely and no bottom end which you can’t to get from a tiny rig like that.I would turn the treble down all the way and full bass with a tiny speaker like that.Ever heard of Eric Johnson?
NOt to make it the standard "Uk band brother competition" but 2 sentences and what a great team. NOthing more brotherly than having your brothers back. (Oasis-talking to you) If you haven't watched @justinhawkinsridesagain on youtube...Do that after this, trust me. Amazing channel
Dan Hawkins is the best advert for marshall there is
Best sounding demo of this amp so far.
Dan is such a great player. I met him last year at a guitar show, couldn't have been a more polite and down to earth dude.
Always loved Dan' sound! All the band is amazing, Dan and Justin have very cool sound and playing!
No one on earth more qualified to speak on cranked up Marshall superleads than Dan Hawkins.
I could name a few others easy.
@@sunburststrats I'd say Hendrix but he's bit smelly now 😅
hahaha..thanks for that!
@rocknroll1973clapton, page, the list goes on
@rocknroll1973if anyone knows about stacks of Marshall’s then it’s definitely them
The Darkness…still so refreshing, almost impossible not to love ! 😎👍

Absolutely love Dan's playing! I'm sure he could make about anything sound great!
That is some killer tone. Love The Darkness
Love this mini-concert; Dan is a legendary rock god!
Love Dan (& Justin) The Darkness Rock 🤘
That opening riff from “Black Shuck” is such a killer 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I love this amp!!
Dan is awesome
I’ve owned several hand wired boutique and stock 50 and 100 watt plexis, and I absolutely love the SV20!
Thanks Dan.
Nice few amps sound like that love it
00:00 I always play that song first when I crank my marshall to 11 😂
My blues Jr goes up to 12. Even bigger number than Nigels
@@JonathanSH I had a peavey viper that went to 13

I run through greenback and vintage 30 for classic micing options. Greenback on top sounds balanced.
Is he playing through the 212 cab that comes with it here? 10/10 sound
I think The Darkness has found its NEXT drummer!
‘No longer are you gonna have to knock out the front row, or kill your drummer’ 😂😂😂 classic Dan and classic Super Lead-related talking 🤣🤣🤣
Best rock band since a long time |n|

perfect balance of dirt and cuts through the sounds of the band
Old school...Les Paul into a Marshall....not awash in reverb and delay.....
Cool dude
Now play through all of them!
Yeeeaahh Baby you is making that thing Rock !!!!! R.i.p. Mr Jim Marshall he would be proud to stand beside you !!! Rock and Roll will never Die.
What's the song at 3:22 ?? PLssss
Barbarian - the darkness
If I had the spare change laying around I would own three of those

Late to the party but what is the riff at 1:38
Roaring Waters. Last of our kind. Still a super underrated album
I really can’t decide between the studio vintage and the mini jubilee 😭
This one
I didn't understand anything he said about leads or anything. But I'd like to learn. So can someone explain it to me?
Thank God you went back to using 50 watter 1987
Really cool. I want something like that so I can stop blowing output transformers in my ampeg.
Is this attenuator-related issue?
@@kirillprilepko394 most definitely 😉🤘

Japanese Prisoner of Love, but I might be wrong

It's actually Roaring Waters.
@@Scram_ ^
Also should have put a master volume on it.
they did, its called the studio classic....
No thanks!!!
Master volume is a tone killer hate those things because they make the amp sound fizzy and”fake”rather use a powerbrake.
Man that thing sounds awesome!!! What settings is Dan using?
Wish I needed one of the bastads! 😀
Black Shuck.
Bit off topic but I'm sure that drummer is from leader of a down
Mr. sound..stay classy;)

Drummers always louder then us ! Never attenuate amps agreed use your guitar controls .
What's up with look? it's like vox.
Fryette power station would fix all of this with any amp.
how about a hand wired version... hmmm... where is it?
Looks like Mick Gordons long lost brother.
Well that’s how you sell an amp
Darkness dont play loud sadly. Heard them in Köln and Bochum 3 times. Just not loud enough
i think that's not their guilty.. when they rehersal they can't play more loud than some db..
Because the venue don’t allow you to and if you go over 100

Sorry but... Not a good demo of this Amp. Sounds to me like a bad guitar🙈🫣
This is great Amp but Not in this Video.🤷
Thanks for the pedals he use in this video (you can notice the foot play on Barbarian song). Not a guitar/amp demo... 👎🏻 And way too much treble

nope... these little 18 watt EL84 amps totally lack the balls and bottom end crunch of the JMP legacy.
They're EL34.
20 watt

I anxiously await the day I know who the hell you are and buy your albums. Until then...Dan it is!
Your playing is amateur at best dude
I'd say that's exactly how a proper Marshall should sound. The playing is completely appropriate for evaluating this type of vintage-style amp
