Why would you want that beam to be under so much tension?
Agree, why bend to the limit rather than cut to shape?
Tom Baker Think of the waste cutting each plank out of run of the mill stock and also the possibility introducing sap wood. I don't think the bend is that significant and it's not going any where. Just a thought, no expert.
also cutting out the shape does not retain the grain, and would problably result in a weaker beam, even if it is under tension
