What's this I see, people talking about Metallicas time is through? I was on a Metallica consert this year and man, they are still freakin' awesome, Metallica forever and ever, They still rock after 28 years of metal.
Same thing happened to Vince Niel of Motley Crue. The band went to rehab, got cleaned up so no more drinking and drugs. Vince got vocal lessons, and he sounding different, a cleaner sound for the Dr. Feelgood album. It was a good voice, but it wasn't the dirty grimy sound he had for the older albums that well all love so much. The drugs and alcohol believe it or not, is what gave bands (or just certain people) the amazingly cool sound in the 80's when they were younger.
Great show, although not the best Metallica concert I've seen. Was hoping they'd top them all for this, but I am still glad I was there to see and hear this.
@epsilon497 I remember a lot of times in the mid to late 90s that Metallica didn't perform Puppets fully but about 3-4 minutes and then stopped. This is probably one of those times.
listen Brosiff, I was just watching it because I appreciate live music. I didn't come here to bash them. And just so you know when I started learning guitar my uncle taught me Metallica and Green Day songs because they were the easiest to learn. I'm not positive but my theory is that people that want to pretend they are hardcore listen to music like this. The same people that don't speak German but like Rammstein.
@rocknrull agree, but i must say that i think that metal is taking rocks place, whether it takes it well or not is not the question, so i believe that a new wood stock would probably be a lot like mayhem fest from last year. I believe that a new wood stock would see more metal than rock, and pop music can suck a ch*de. plus there might be a lot of prog and indie, like fall of troy and coheed and cambria. basically music from rock band and guitar hero.
I was at this awful fuckin festival and Metallica is the only part I remember enjoying. It helped that it had finally rained too. They sounded really good and loud from out in the crowd.
I saw Metallica when they toured with Godsmack. I didnt really care for them live. Ill stick to local shows. You get more involved in the local shows. Damage 4 A Dime asked me to sing Mouth for War by Pantera when they played it one time.
ok...yeah...i know that metallica is one of the greatest metal band of all time,i know who is singer i know all of the metallica personnel...i know that there is great part of song...just a part...you need think one more time iron maidens song all are great...but metallica have just few of them..listen to maidens dance of death, the talisman, ghost of navigator, hallowed be thy name...where all parts of song are great...all truly masterpieces...im sorry if someone has has hurts with my comment
The bass player in this video?? He left because he felt james wouldn't let him do his own thing musically and Metallica was idle for a few years. Their bass player before Jason (the guy in this video) was cliff burton and he was killed in a bus crash. RIP
@skywarp187 The only reason they were so hard on him is because nobody was over Cliff's death, hence going through group therapy. To lose all respect because they were kinda dicks is harsh especially since you don't know what they went through. And even though he may have had bad times with them, you know there were good times. It's rock and roll.
@MetalMilitia7771 Yes, Metallica is constant development, changes and difference. Iron Maiden are great musicians, some of their songs are hits like Fear Of The Dark, but they are far less emotional than Metallica's. For example Master Of Puppets - hidden Hetfield's addictions, that he didn't even know about, which came out late for him. That's interesting, and Iron Maiden... hmmm "I was walking down the street and got scared by a cat passing my way and jumping on a fence" 10-year-old kid? ;)
Nothing to do with "Love" and "Hate". I myself grew up listening and jamming to Metallica tunes, and was in a heavy metal band in the 90's. All I am saying is that the "Woodstock" name should NEVER be used for any concert or festival again. Its an insult to the original 69 happening which is part of music history. There was and will always be one Woodstock.
@TheXsteel10 Iron Maiden has no riffs. (Its a good band, but their guitarists play rhythm very differently.) Metallica is the biggest metalband of all time. This song is one of the best known metal songs of all time. The riffs in this song are not that original, but they are definatly catchy and have a nice heavy thrash flow. Iron Maiden has indeed melodies that are more accesible for the regular listener, but that doesn't change anything about the quality of the music.
No shit, I was there too. It was fuckin' hot for most of it. Why did they have to have it on an old air force base. The fuckin' tarmac from the flight line was making it too damn hot. Metallica was awesome though.
I agree unfortunatly. Metallica's aera has passed.... The vocals are gone, and the guitar totally lack the punch.. Sad really, cos I remember what their music used to give me....and now I havent had a good vibe to their tunes in oh-so-long.
@Scarecrow545 He sings like he always sang, at least he's not completely selling out with shitty albums and video games, Hetfield and Hammet wish they could play as good as him.
I kinda agree...I'm a HUGE Metallica fan, but this performance is kind of lacking in energy. It's kind of surprising, since Jason was pretty good at getting a crowd pumped up
@kyotogurl I'd definately pick Woodstock '69 over '99, cos I'm more into the old school bands and I don't like Korn and all that shit; plus there were even acts of rapes and robberies in '99 Still cool though :P
@rocknrull well thats rigth theres the reason of why my friends and i go to all the metallica,AC/DC,megadeth an all those bands of metal and rock concerts!!! i would like a 2010 woodstock to go with my friends!!! and kick all the pop and that shit in the ass!!! i have 12 years old!!☠☣hell yeah!!!
@TheXsteel10 Allright, I agree Iron Maiden is great and I also agree that half of Metallica's discography is shit ;). Tho I think this song is very good, not just the one part thats a bit more like Iron Maiden.
Cliff blew Jason away and helped form Metallica into what it was; the whole mentality of it. Jason was an obvious replacement, though. He led Flotsam and Jetsam and was a well known metal bassist. I don't think his style could show out in Metallica, though; he played his bass like a guitar in his own stuff; can't do that in Metallica
It was great, although believe it or not Metallica and Megadeth didn't play their best. Korn, Rage Against the Machine and - especially - Limp Bizkit were the craziest bands at Woodstock '99. No one else even came close to that line up.
@MrDionisferizi I listen that not abria woodstook 2010 for the insidente in 99 but it was not a 2010 it was a 2009 it is every 10 years you do not believe it?
I would have KILLED to be at this concert. Best line up of all the woodstocks IMO
Woodstock 99' , it was a hell on earth , with awesome bands playing all around you.
What's this I see, people talking about Metallicas time is through? I was on a Metallica consert this year and man, they are still freakin' awesome, Metallica forever and ever, They still rock after 28 years of metal.

I missed woodstock 99 cuz I was broke, but id love another woodstock reunion type this!!
that is crazy! the years pass away so fast.
69 = peace and love
99 = rebellion and mayhem
love both the movements and i'm not mad at any of them. they both served their purpose.
Woodstock 99 must have been amazing! I mean Metallica, Korn, rage against the machine , megadeth... Ahh i was 5, Damn.
Great show, although not the best Metallica concert I've seen. Was hoping they'd top them all for this, but I am still glad I was there to see and hear this.
happy birthday james!

i would kill to go back in time and go to woodstock '99.
thx for sharing
@epsilon497
I remember a lot of times in the mid to late 90s that Metallica didn't perform Puppets fully but about 3-4 minutes and then stopped. This is probably one of those times.
Cliff was the master. Can't wait til I get a chance to see them with Rob live, though.
is it me or did it seem like Jason always had the best looking basses ive ever seen in my life....
This brings me back to about 1986
listen Brosiff, I was just watching it because I appreciate live music. I didn't come here to bash them.

They threw the bottle and James didn't even fucking flinch, FUCK YEAH!
james is soo awesome he didn't even feel the bottle hit him cause he's god like
Best version of MOP ever
@rocknrull agree, but i must say that i think that metal is taking rocks place, whether it takes it well or not is not the question, so i believe that a new wood stock would probably be a lot like mayhem fest from last year. I like this riff really fun to play on guitar
MASTER MASTEEEER !!!!

I was at this awful fuckin festival and Metallica is the only part I remember enjoying. It helped that it had finally rained too. They sounded really good and loud from out in the crowd.

Woodstock 2010: Metallica, Ozzy, AC/DC, Disturbed, Green Day, Godsmack, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Heaven & Hell.
Jason Newsted, we miss you !
Our generation of hate > your generation of love
metallica AND megadeth here at woodstock '99.....what more could you want?
@rocknrull TOTALY AGREED, TODAYS BANDS SUCK AND ONLY THE OLD LEGENDARY BANDS ARE GOOD: METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH ARE A FEW EXAMPLES
Yes, at 2.46, unbelievable.
I saw Metallica when they toured with Godsmack. I didnt really care for them live. Ill stick to local shows. You get more involved in the local shows. Damage 4 A Dime asked me to sing Mouth for War by Pantera when they played it one time.

@djmm1397 then why a year ago in texas were both of their gigs already sold out when you say thay never sell out?
The bass player in this video?? He left because he felt james wouldn't let him do his own thing musically and Metallica was idle for a few years. Their bass player before Jason (the guy in this video) was cliff burton and he was killed in a bus crash. RIP
jame's downpicking is awesome..
FUCK I love Metallica. GREAT performance here!!!
@skywarp187 The only reason they were so hard on him is because nobody was over Cliff's death, hence going through group therapy. @mitchbowes2010 Dude, Axl here in Chile on 1992, stopped a concert for only a spit.
Go Metallica!
@MetalMilitia7771 Yes, Metallica is constant development, changes and difference. Iron Maiden are great musicians, some of their songs are hits like Fear Of The Dark, but they are far less emotional than Metallica's. @pnroyal I think 2012 would be cooler, would have that same end of the world feel as 99
Dark Lords of the 20th Century.
I agree unfortunatly. Metallica's aera has passed....
The vocals are gone, and the guitar totally lack the punch..
Sad really, cos I remember what their music used to give me....and now I havent had a good vibe to their tunes in oh-so-long.
metallica never sold out
@Scarecrow545
He sings like he always sang, at least he's not completely selling out with shitty albums and video games, Hetfield and Hammet wish they could play as good as him.
The real reason for staging concerts there is to make more money. All in all, most things are about money.

I kinda agree...I'm a HUGE Metallica fan, but this performance is kind of lacking in energy. It's kind of surprising, since Jason was pretty good at getting a crowd pumped up
2:45 LOL!!!!
@kyotogurl I'd definately pick Woodstock '69 over '99, cos I'm more into the old school bands and I don't like Korn and all that shit; plus there were even acts of rapes and robberies in '99
Still cool though :P
He didn't feel the bottle cause he was drunk there xD but it does james a faster down picking :DD
@Metallideth94 one its drummer not frummer lol fail but if you listen to all metallica you will hear lars' true skill

Tho I think this song is very good, not just the one part thats a bit more like Iron Maiden.
has anyone noticed that Lars is wearing the same shirt he did in the S&M videos ??
james master of downpicking
Cliff blew Jason away and helped form Metallica into what it was; the whole mentality of it. Jason was an obvious replacement, though. He led Flotsam and Jetsam and was a well known metal bassist. I don't think his style could show out in Metallica, though; he played his bass like a guitar in his own stuff; can't do that in Metallica
pretty good for a 240 quality
i dont care if rob is faster and better, Jason was so much part of Metallica, Metallica isn't the same without Jason.
It was great, although believe it or not Metallica and Megadeth didn't play their best. Korn, Rage Against the Machine and - especially - Limp Bizkit were the craziest bands at Woodstock '99. No one else even came close to that line up.
