There is nothing more cozy in fall than watching a Townsends video. And a 3 hour thanksgiving marathon at that! I love to escape to the past for a little while and have really enjoyed your channel over the last couple years. Thank you!
You will ❤️ (and sometimes it still won’t come out perfect) but cooking is sometimes less a science or an art but more like riding a bike once you get it it’s a breeze but you will get it
Yay!!! Love these marathons 😊 the stuffing in the turkey. I always make two different stuffings. One that goes in the turkey no one eats and then the side dish stuffing that’s meant to be eaten.
Thank for this post. I will be watching this but it will take a couple of days. One suggestion. If you can add "chapters" so we can search through all this amazing content,
Thanks for sharing this Holiday Feast with us Jon. All of those recipes were great and improved over the years with the different quality of the growing of the foods. We all appreciate all you do to keep the family business growing and the staff who work so hard to keep what they love to do going around there. Stay safe and keep growing. Fred.

I have been watching your videos for many years. I purchased Amelia's book as this year I am cooking for the family. I'm excited to see how these dishes taste and excited for my family to enjoy. Love your shows.
Regarding the pumpkin pie, in the early 1980's I was experimenting with the whole pumpkin to make my own filling instead of the store boughten stuff. The pioneer in me I suppose. Then the Little House on the Prairie came out with a Cookbook and I used that recipe for a really long time, 30 plus years... I'm going to try the one with the molasses and no nutmeg...
Townsends, thank you for the Thanksgiving meals marathon. Life has been busy, so happy to final have time to just sit and enjoy this. Is there going to be new holiday meal videos this year. I sure hope so. Gives me something to look forward to.
That was great. I watched while I made buttermilk scones, new recipe. And I got to enjoy one while still watching 😂. Happy Thanksgiving to all of your gang from a Canadian. We had our holiday in October 🦃
It's going to be so hard to be thankful, luckily I have my babies (my cat and dog) but it's just so sad. I'm so sad, and lost, and scared. Thank you for the distraction.
John is out here telling us about White Lily flower like none of us have ever been to Walmart before. It's literally one of the most popular brands in the country.
I'm glad that you left the rosewater OUT of the sweet potato/apple dish. To me, it's so overwhelming that it dominates everything in its path. I know I'm making at least a couple of these recipes for this Thanksgiving but the video still has another hour to go, so we'll see..... may be more!
@@rexman971 Of course!! ☺️ Have you ever tried a casserole? They’re so easy and delicious. You can do ground turkey with sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. It’s amazing!! 🤩 I make casseroles all the time, and they never come out bad! So long as you combine good ingredients that go well together, it’s always a win!
@ Oh my gosh, I’ve got to make Shepherd’s Pie!!! Yeah, go for it!! Put some happy music on and have fun!! Oh, you might enjoy Tavern Ambience videos on YT while you cook! ☺️
Used to put the turkey in a paper grocery bag and tear the bag open at the end of cook time to let it brown. Can do the same thing with chicken. Now a days they use roasting bags made of plastic.
💛...time to run my marathon...just curious...your turkey appears to be a domestic bird...is it possible to acquire/hunt a wild one?...and, how would preparation differ?...taste differ?...anyone?...thanks...btw, there have been increasing numbers of flocks in rural and suburban areas around here (sacramento valley), so harvesting would be a possibility...
I made the pumpkin pie at about 16 minutes in the video, the one without the nutmeg that John put some into anyway...and used a bit of honey because it was just too boring with molasses only. It's pretty good. I did not use as much milk because it would have been too wet. The moisture in my pumpkin must have been more.
When it came to the molasses I. This recipe that sure did not look like a teaspoon in a half , looked more like 1/3-1/4 cup . Regalless im gonna try this recipe
We in the USA don’t have yams. Only sweet potatoes. Yams are pretty much only grown in Africa, and have only a fraction of the sweetness of sweet potatoes.
I have read/digested about 40-50 first person accounts/journals pertaining to the early to mid 1800s, specifically looking for references to the treatment of what we (today) think of as traditional holidays. Basically, Christmas, July 4th, and election days have a “holiday” feel but Thanksgiving and Easter are just not mentioned. Halloween is a 20th century invention. Even Christmas has fluctuated between being illegal or sacred (especially in the 1700s). Spanish-speaking cultures or peoples do an Easter/Passion Week sort of thing as well as a February “sneak attack” egg game (early Monterey, California). Mostly, men ran the holiday experiences, including decorations, until women’s magazines threw the responsibilities of making the holidays something special for the family in the laps of the women (at home rather than going visiting and “punch sampling”) by the time of the California gold rush.
It doesn't matter what time period, a good cook is a blessing.
Truth 👏
One thing that drives me batty is how people jump straight from Halloween, straight to Christmas. I love what I consider a Thanksgiving program.
I decorate for Thanksgiving and love Thanksgiving time ... I will decorate for Christmas the week after Turkey Day ...
Blaim retail. They make more money off Christmas junk than they do fall decor / tablewear.
It's even worse in Canada since our Thanksgiving is in Oct there's no buffer lol
I’ve become a staunch promoter of NNN (No Noel November). Christmas is great, but it belongs in December.
@@dembro27 , yeah I have to decorate for Christmas after Thanksgiving ..
Love how cozy this channel is. Feels like a Disney sleepy hollow vibe all the time.

I love that! 🥰
Ah, he had a way with the yarn, did old Townsend...

I love Jon's continued encouragement to make your own pie crust. I haven't mastered it yet, but Jon thinks I will.
You will ❤️ (and sometimes it still won’t come out perfect) but cooking is sometimes less a science or an art but more like riding a bike once you get it it’s a breeze but you will get it
(But if you’re having a lot of trouble with the crust getting too hard try an egg or some sour cream or cream cheese 😉
Thanks for these videos, you guys are an oasis of calm and warmth.
With the week I’m having, this is a breath of fresh air.
Yay!!! Love these marathons 😊 the stuffing in the turkey. I always make two different stuffings. One that goes in the turkey no one eats and then the side dish stuffing that’s meant to be eaten.
I put stuffing inside the turkey, and also bake extra stuffing.
Love this episode! Great time of year ❤
I probably won't watch much of this today, but thank you so much for posting it today.

Man I needed something this cozy
Gosh l just love your channel ♥️🇬🇧♥️
Definitely needed this ❤
Yay! And would love to watch more log building videos!
I absolutely love this show---I saw the thumbnail and knew that this episode is going to be fire!
Just what we needed on this post election day!
Especially if we're celebrating!

Turkey is a pain in the butt to cook ... only thing I have difficulty with ...
Townsend's Cooking Show from the 1790's this is going to be great
have an awesome Wednesday everyone.🍗🍅🫑🥔🥕🍖🇺🇲
If not ddep frying, parchment is the best best way to cook a turkey. They come out so perfect.
Next time the Turkey in the oven needs to be cooked on a rack so that way fire can get up underneath it and it can crisp up the bottom layer as well
Good morning!
I’m ready to eat!

Any dessert tips for 1815 Christmas Dinner for the 79th Cameron highlanders?

Im assuming turkeys back then weren't as big as ours?
Why'd John get the small turkey?
We in the USA don’t have yams. Only sweet potatoes. Yams are pretty much only grown in Africa, and have only a fraction of the sweetness of sweet potatoes.
In Brazil it is called Peru and not turkey.
Today is a celebratory day for me, and this video is perfect. Thank y’all so much! ❤ God bless everyone here.

babe wake up new townsends video just dropped
yeah, let's just not mention the other thing that just "dropped"
Now I'm wondering how the Cratchits cooked the bird Scrooge sent them. It was as big as Tiny Tim.
That’s the beautiful fiddle song in this that he used to start all his early videos with?

On what planet do people not put stuffing in a turkey? I bake a turkey alongside a lard deep-fried turkey just so I have in-the-bird stuffing.
