Sick ride! Ruff neck 😆 . Takes me back to my Mongoose bmx with the moto mag wheels and the original Tuff-neck. Love the new fork and lines of this build.
Looks good! I wouldn't worry about a 10-20mm difference in crown to drop-out distance. A suspension fork will sag with you on the bike, basically erasing the difference anyhow.
Star nut installation, use an old stem as a guidance put in the star nut screw and top cap, top cap screwed all the way down and then hammer it in with a rubber hammer. Works everytime
Oh, very nice!!! Reminds me of my bike. Back in 2007, my gf at the time was riding a 19" Marin Pine Mountain which was way too big for her. I popped into the local bike shop and came out with an aluminium finish 14" GT Aggressor. She took one look at it and said, "Nah". 😒🙄🤨 Fine, I'll ave it. 😁 Took all the crap off it and replaced it with a 92 Deore XT gruppo and a couple of trickies I had off an old Proflex. Like you mate, a badly scratched seatpin, so I took off all the black finish. Took off all the decals, polished everything and put slicks and my beloved XT 7sp thumbies on. It's running 8x2. I've been riding it ever since.
Pretty nice. One tip, I would not recommend banging the crown race tool to the race. It doesn’t seem like it would matter but placing the tool on the race and using a hammer on the tool will yield much better results. I’ve done a ton of headset installations and learned the heard way the damage that can be caused by banging the tool on the race
I been using a 1in aluminum tube with slots in it like youve demonstrated in the past. BTW this was my fav bike youve restored - the rigid fork only makes it better. Good stuff mayne
Hmmm seems simple enough. Now I'm even more eager for my package to arrive. Hopefully the fork I ordered is similar in length to the suspension fork that's mounted now.
Man I used to want a GT so bad back in the day, looks just like the ones I was looking at when I got my first MTB. I have a Shogun which is full raw aluminium. It must be pretty uncommon, never seen another. I've been thinking of restoring it for a while now, maybe seeing if I can upsize to 27.5in. This bike has made me want to do it even more!
Gary living on the edge freestyling the star nut😂 There is some thing pure about rigid forks no wobbly suspension ....the suspension is your legs .tyres and skill
Hi! As always, a nice renovation of an old MTB bike. Could you please explain to me what exactly that magical black stuff you're coating your old aluminum seat post with is?
i like suspension fork in hard setting. i think the ride is smoother. cheap very soft suspension fork is a problem, makes the bike hard to contol when braking on turns....i think
Hey pal. Do you have to account for the travel or sag of the excising sus fork before you know what ridged fork to buy? Also needs to be suspension corrected, eh? 🍁 Wanna install one on my 93’ KHS Montana Comp Love the Melbs ❤
yes - usually its better to replace the fork with the same travel as originally specced but sometimes you can replace and it doesn't change it too much if the axle to crown measurement is similar. I think it was something like for every 10mm difference you get 5mm in bb drop
I bought an Apollo meltdown the other day it was £15 but I gave the lady 20 , I put my cruiser bars on it and I’ve just done a just eat shift on it , and it is great I need to get a quil stem and bmx bars for it and it will be perfect 👍 what size quil stem would I need to order?
agh do you not use brake cable outer ends?? you can get plastic ones that don't seize into frames will make the outers fit so much better into the routing ports.
Nah I don’t really use them , I find if you file the end of the housing it doesn’t make that much of a difference to have them (to me) & also save on some plastic
I have the same "Sabre Sport" Suspension fork on my '94 Aggressor. It seems that the fork was mainly installed for optical reasons. Almost no travel, although I gave it a clean and small service. How did you yours perform?
Really clean and cool looking update😎also looking forward to find a black seatpost for my red 28“ Wheeler 1600 gravel build🙂Nice tool update as well…i am using the cup remover for quiet a while and won‘t miss it…to install new cups, I’m using a screw clamp and wooden blocks to press them in place😉to set a new fork crown I made my own tool using an old frame tube💪🏻Cheers mate👋🏻
Yo, good vids. But I've been wondering, what's up with the canti centerpull brakes? My experience with them VS sidepull brakes is that these ones have way shorter range in their braking force. Is it just an aesthetic choice? That said, nice mod, loving the stiff fork, keep it up! :))
Ya they are fun , they work well once setup properly, like you said just personal choice. I have all three types , canti / v brake / disc , fun to be able to switch it up for a different ride experience
I’m not very experienced with it. The nice thing about it is that it’s not like paint. You can just touch it up as needed. You will have to research it, but it is worth it.
I'd definitely be wary ordering from a company that straight up doesn't answer inquiries. Imagine there's a problem with the order, lost in the mail or a warranty issue and they just ignore you like that
@@garysprojects I did that when I was looking at the Mothbars after one of your previous vids, I msg them on ig, but no reply. That's cool, I think I need to keep my builds more budget friendly now anyway ;). Thanks, Gary
A rigid fork beats a dead shock for sure, and losing a couple pounds is nice, too.
Hell ya ! Nice way to lighten up an old frame
The fork blends in with the frame like it was made for it, nice mod 👍
Thank you! Yes I think it suits this frame quite well !
Sick ride! Ruff neck 😆 . Takes me back to my Mongoose bmx with the moto mag wheels and the original Tuff-neck. Love the new fork and lines of this build.
Hahah some old school flavor ! Thank you mate I appreciate that 🙏
Looks good! I wouldn't worry about a 10-20mm difference in crown to drop-out distance. A suspension fork will sag with you on the bike, basically erasing the difference anyhow.
That is true I don’t think that much will make much difference at all . Cheers!
Star nut installation, use an old stem as a guidance put in the star nut screw and top cap, top cap screwed all the way down and then hammer it in with a rubber hammer. Works everytime
Oh that’s a smart tip! I gotta try that one thank you for sharing , cheers !
@@garysprojects your welcome, thanks for your videos. The GT Agressor looks super sharp with the squishy fork and also without it!

I love segmented straight-bladed forks. Looks great!
Hell ya it’s a good looking fork for sure !
So much nicer with the rigid!
Thank you my dude! I agree a few lighter too !
Sweeeet GT, Gary!
There's just something special about the aesthetics of the old GTs. with a rigid fork.
Sven
I agree ! I think gt matches with this fork very well 👍
Hmmm seems simple enough. Now I'm even more eager for my package to arrive. Hopefully the fork I ordered is similar in length to the suspension fork that's mounted now.
hell ya , hopefully an easy swap
@garysprojects The operation was a complete success. Your videos have guided me through a lot, man.
cheers mate im glad!
Such a sick bike. Love watching your videos, as a beginner I’m learning so much, thank you!
Thank you my dude I appreciate that ! I am glad that the videos are helping ! Cheers
Looking good! That fork looks great on that bike. A perfect match.👍
Thank you my dude ! Yesss I think a great match up for sure 👍 cheers!
Cheers for this one, mate. I am looking at a fork swap on my old 98 Arrowhead. Swapping out for shocks.
No worries mate , should be a similar swap to suspension once you change it to threadless headset 👍
Looks awesome Gary. I always liked rigid bikes a lot for some reason.
Thank you my dude ! Ya I don’t do a lot of crazy off road either so most of my bikes are rigid
@@garysprojects I like them for the speed, on or off road.

Looks similar rake as the fork on my Crust Wombat. Nice looking product.
Ahh nice ! That’s a cool bike , your right fork looks like it has similar rake
I put one of these forks on my steel 26er and it’s wonderful.

Thank you Russell I appreciate that !
It's a clean look on the old GT.

immaculate build 🫡

@@garysprojects thanks
Very nice fork. So much better looking compared to the shocks.

I think I still have that color blue rigid fork from a 1991 Pantera, in my basement. So ya, OEM rigid fork which has the correct forward sweep.

Which should I get for going to work shocked fork or no shock fork
depends how rough it is on the way to work

Have you ever tried aluminum blue or black? They use it on gun parts. It blackens aluminum with a chemical.

What is that type of handlebar called?
Yamaha or Honda I forget
Are these the 1” or 1 1/8?
i think they make them in both sizes now. in the video its 1 1/8
what handlebars are these?
Honda or Yamaha , I got them second hand
Could you do the same with some gt rigid forks from the same era?
yep thats possible
@@garysprojects cool thanks
What kind of rigid fork did you use
Magic components Atb fork, link in description

Magic components, atb fork
what is your handlebar?
Just a old Honda one
