We have two realms of authority. One is the kings of Government and the other is God. It is true that leaders are ordained by God. He puts men in place but takes them away too. We have been given freedom but our government is governing in their own way now, oblivious and against God himself. Don't tell me you can't see and hear it. We as Christians must stand firm in the teachings of God even against the authority of our leaders in government when it comes to sinning against God. We can not go against God. We MUST use the gift God gave us and vote for the one who is closest to his teachings and speaks the name of Jesus. I hear one who does that and you know of whom I speak. I think what's tough for American Christians is that our system presents itself as granting the voter so much power through their vote. We, in theory, are not Communist China. We aren't the original Christians who lived under Roman dictatorship. We are presented as actually having political power and that can be seductive in a way. If we lived in ancient Rome or current China, we wouldn't have the illusion of political power and we wouldn't be so polarized politically as Christians. To put it another way, we as Christians are way more consumed with politics than a lot of Christians are in dictatorships around the world because we actually have the appearance of political power and we put more into that than we possibly should.
I personally don’t think Christians should avoid politics but churches and church leaders should avoid politics. Jesus says, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." Matthew 22:21 (NKJV). Churches and their leaders have a vital responsibility to nurture the spiritual growth of Christians, as guiding their congregations in faith and fostering a deeper relationship with God is their primary mission. Not politics.
