Man, I was doing so well for ages. But then Christmas happened last year and I gave myself a free pass for a few days. Which became a week, then two, then a month. Suddenly all my bad habits came back. Then so did a lot of the kilograms. I'm so annoyed with myself. Remembering watching this guy as I was 15 years old, learning the proper form for pushups. This guy is the grandfather of UA-cam Fitness, love seeing you still pushing out videos and giving great advice!
Walking is great, one hour a day, add muscle, IE body weigh and or weights ....... My wife now gets Low fat milk free, so I have been drinking it. I was a non milk drinker before. WOW the protein is badass! I have found it to be very beneficial, the fat content is to high so I recommend Non fat, poops get gummy, like most peoples right lol So Low fat will darken that poop, meaning to much FAT. It's FREE so I reduce FAT in other areas to compensate. I like walking, like some like their half reps on pull ups ;)
Holy crap scooby! You are still making videos??? I got into lifting 12 years ago. I used to watch your videos all the time. It’s so cool to see you are still at it! I’m still lifting. I’m into powerlifting and bodybuilding.
I like intermittent fasting/fasting not for weightloss. I'm a big man with a lot of body fat. I love food. I just feel slowed down when i eat anything bigger than a snack. So I wait until all my work/activities are done for the day to eat most of my food. Not eating clears my head, it works with me, but I'm also 300lbs with higher BF.
I also do Intermittent Fasting, and eat before bed (even though I know it's not the most efficient thing for weight loss) because it's like a natural sleeping pill for me. I've lost a lot of weight this way.
It's nice to hear someone talking about including vegetables in their diet. A LOT of people on this website are set on convincing their subscribers that they only need meat, eggs, and butter to live healthily.
Unless it's just flavoured with like lime juice and spices or something. I prefer to just use common sense Also savory taste is based on glutamate, so it's not hard to add flavour that way. Stick a bunch of dried shitaki mushrooms in a stew and you've gained flavour at no cost
Scooby, yesterday I discovered that your 30 min cardio a day advice is some seriously good insight. I did a ton of biking yesterday, probably burned 800 cal but then was starving after and ate probably 1200 cal lol
Would a 45hr/week job that involves alot of heavy lifting (saw mill) along with the intermediate scooby home workout @ 3 days per week be considered active on that calculator? I skip the cardio part too much to count it in.
Every body is talking about how mike o Hearn is a legend or Ronnie Coleman and these other body builders, Scooby is my number one legend, been watching him for so long now I can keep count of the years, this guy is A true legend. ❤😎
Intermitten fasting works, and it does not create messed up eating habits for me, so I will disagee with that statement. I got so used to it, that I don't even think about the time. It's been years. I'm just so busy working that I simply forget to eat in the morning. It's very easy to do. All you have to do is skip breakfast, and have a slightly delayed lunch. I think it's almost too easy. It keeps you healthy, because you're not overworking your body with processing food all the time. You're giving it a break, which leads to a longer life span.
The best dietary program I've ever used is macro counting. It's is essentially calorie counting however, it simply involves counting my proteins, carbs and fats. In short, I just match my proteins and carbs at about 160 per day, and bring fats in around 50-60 depending on if how "cut" you want to get. The worst thing for me is wine! I love wine but it will add weight like nothing you've ever seen, alcohol in general is terrible. I wish it wasn't so bad, cause I love my booze!
What's your TRT dose scoob? I had to get off to get my girl pregnant. I lost about 10 lbs muscle and kept the fat, maybe added some. You're looking great!
Scooby I’ve been watching your channel for over ten years… Git injured years ago… Herniated disc in my lower back… any exercises you could recommend to lower the pain?
I like your videos, scooby. Nevertheless I got to mention: don't think, adding muscle is big of a deal for fat-loss. Even if you would 10% muscle (let's say 3kg), which is very hard to achieve, your energy expense might rise about 40kcal per day, which is a chew of a chocolate bar, if at all. The daily energy expense per kilogramm is about 13kcal/kg/day (for example here: Elia M. et al "Organ and tissue contribution to metabolic rate"). Even fatty tissue has 5kcal/kg/day. So it's not big of a deal in regards to a diet.
I do starch based with fruits and vegetables no animal foods or vegetable oils just a pure dr McDougall diet and it’s amazing no gaining weight, alot of fiber, all the protein and getting stronger muscles all at same time and lots of energy. Love it!!!
I'm not sure if I agree with you that more cardio will not help you lose weight.. Have you never seen a long distance runner? The idea is if you burn off more than you eat you'll be in a calorie deficit and the weight will come off.. If you're telling me its possible to gain weight while doing 8 hours of cardio.. I would imagine when you're doing your intense biking you must be burning off at least 800 calories per hour.. In 8 hours that would be 6,400 calories and assuming you weigh around 230 mostly muscle you would probably need 2,500 calories a day depending on your metabilosm just to maintain your weight even if you didn't do any exercise at all.. That would mean you would have to eat roughly over 9 thousand calories to gain weight when doing your intense biking.. I'm I making sense?
@@SK-2ill I know but that's crazy.. I doubt anyone in their right mind would be eating nearly 10 thousand calories a day regardless of how much cardio they've been doing.. I mean I guess it's possible but that would be just grossly over eating and probably from the wrong types of food also.. You couldn't eat that many calories from clean foods like chicken breasts,, fish and salads
@@QueensNativeNYC People get addicted to calorie dense junk food. I certainly have been at times. Im a bit smaller than scooby at 6' 200 lbs, but I could easily eat a large pie of pizza followed up by a pint of ice cream. Thats an easy 4000 cals there just for "dinner." And I eat small clean meals for the vast majority of my calories. Imagine if you have conditioned yourself to eat waffles for breakfast everyday, 2 slices of pizza for lunch, fast food for dinner. It adds up fast.
@@QueensNativeNYC I’ve been lifting weight for almost a decade and recently I’ve been putting on lots of weight, started tracking calories in January. Before I started however I tracked how much I normally ate and I was eating almost 4000 calories a day! Been eating about 1680 a day since January and I’ve lost 20lbs!
Let me give you a riddle. Many obese people do hours of "cardio" in the gym but yet cannot lose any weight. Why do you think that is? How do you think their caloric expenditure on the elliptical machine compares to running at a 7 minute mile pace that long distance runners do every day?
Sccoby you are great ! Did you manage to stop the alcohol at all ? I'm trying to do that for the last month (just calculated how much meat can I eat monthly instead of those empty calories 😁)

What would you suggest as the better cardio machine/exercise for weight loss - Bike, Stairmaster, cross trainer/elliptical, or treadmill (walking speed to protect the knees)? I would've assumed running on a treadmill would be the best, but I really don't want to damage my knees, plus I also hate running/jogging...
I needed this video! I was wondering if I should bump up my cardio to an hour or hour and a half but now I think I’ll stick to 45 min. And for real! I took a week off and visited my brother for vacation. I ate a lot of delicious local fast food, sodas, and candy. Gained 10 lbs and it’s taking longer than a week to lose that 10 lbs. another negative is that I was craving those empty calories and had to relearn to enjoy baked chicken and quinoa and use flavored water to transition to plain water.
Hey Scooby, big fan! Wondering if you've seen a new Nature journal study called: "Total daily energy expenditure has declined over the past three decades due to declining basal expenditure, not reduced activity expenditure"? I think its a wonderful piece showing that diet is indeed the biggest factor with obesity.
Went Vegan 7 years ago….Retired 2 years ago and started strength training. I still have a ways to go to get to the JACKED GRANDPA I want to be but I already look like a different person.
i love your videos and love the articles i hope it is ok i asked a very very long question on your article relating to this video i need help b4 i give up i have watched so many video and read so many things im not even sure what a correct workout looks like to drop weight
Chicken/meat & potatoes are what mainly keep me from derailing. One of those better be down the pipe by the second meal of the day or my hunger becomes a problem. I find being prepared for cravings and not wanting to cook is key as well. Low-calorie canned soups, prepared frozen chicken, low-fat frozen potato fries, ,chopped tubers, and vegetables, gum in different flavors, hard candy, low-calorie hot chocolate you can make in water. Appliances like an air frier & a food scale are important. Making this as easy as possible. Also measuring cups and making sure to cook more than what you will eat in a sitting.
Have you given any attention to Dr. Fung's message of fasting, particularly longer term fasting? The Minnesota experiment limited cals to 1560/day, which would eliminate many of the beneficial responses the body has to real fasting (increases in HGH for example)
Great to be seeing your videos again Scooby I thought you retired from it a few years ago. I've been intermittent fasting again for the last few weeks (16-8) and doing some Beastmode Jones 'hippy weights' (lighter weight/higher rep) I wouldn't recommend fasting to a beginner but someone that already knows their body quite well and wants that last little bit off, be it for a competition or summer etc. A good way to battle the food is imagine you have to go out in the morning and chase or collect your food before you get to enjoy it 😅 Food companies replace sugar with sodium and potassium so i read a lot of labels, and nothing beats natural like you said with the fruits. Thanks Scooby!
If you are happy with your fat loss progress counting walking as cardio hours, just keep doing what you are doing. On the other hand, if you are NOT happy with your progress then consider my advice.
@@scooby1961 I'd say walking was a good start to the cardio routine. Unfortunately i'm 5'9, 180lbs and not all of that is muscle lol. I'd say i'm sitting at 20-30% bodyfat. I'd like to eventually trim down to having even a 4pack of abs, they exist in there somewhere. I think i'll start off with counting calories and jogging.
Scooby, when I'm in a caloric deficit, I can't even sleep. I have like shakes and wake up from a jump. This is what prevents me from doing a long term caloric deficit, I don't get the sleeping time I need, because hunger wakes me up.
Thats basically how I have lost around 10kg but also gained 10kg of muscle over the last year (regained muscles - muscle memory). Put in a cheat meal once in a while to keep the mood in line.
I'm struggling with weight loss. When I get stressed I binge eat. After a blood analysis they found high cholesterol and fatty deposits around organs. This has been a big wake up call for me. I am 101kg and need to get down to 80kg. I have decided its time to change, do my 30mins daily cardio and ditch the junk, its not going to be easy and this video is the one I was looking for. Nothing complicated. Take care of your bodies everyone! Thank you Scooby for great video!
I have switched from walking to putting weight (currently 21kg) into my backpack and go for a walk wearing that. I walk 45minutes with that, usually do just over 5000 steps and actually feel it, when I've just walked I could do that for hours and hours on end without an issue. This way I noticed my heart rate and breathing changing. I usually do that after my my weight training.
@Redrick Schuhart thank you for the concern. It's kind, but I have built up to it. Don't worry, I started with just 6kg after years of weight training and just walking. I also take breaks from, once or twice a week, it like normal exercise to recover. I wouldn't recommend jumping in with more weight. That could be bad, but it's the same with everything
what helped me was going keto combined with daily 20 hour fasting. i lost 50 lbs just doing that. no calorie counting and so far being a couple years in has so far been very successfull.
Running was the best cardio for me because it caused greater appetite control. The body's biofeedback tells you that it's harder running when you are heavier. Unfortunately, my joints did not keep up, and I had to quit.
Scooby, i have said this probably 50 or so times now: There is NO WAY your fitness channel will EVER DIE. Now, more than ever before we NEED people like you who give out SOLID, no B.S. sugar coating advice. Society is declining health wise at a rapid pace probably more than ever before. All this nonsense coming out by the day, week and month after month. All this nonsense about "body shaming", or no "weight discrimination" etc etc. You can't even talk to people about health without being labeled a "body shamer" or that you are being "weight discriminatory" towards them. Some of these people are heading for diabetes, and a plethora of other issues. I will never understand how this country is able to seal the holes in the bow, stern and starboard sides of this ship we are on...... I guess this is one of the ways we are the "richest countries" on earth. Super size me, Biggie fry this, prescription drugs for everything under the sun. No doctors are prescribing a 30 day prescription of NO fast food. No biggie fries, frosty's etc. And 30 days of actual exercising.
I was causally eating my chicken and pickles while enjoying your video, while periodically screaming out ‘THATS EXACTLY WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING!’. Which then sparked a ‘Love debate’ between my aunt and I, because she used selective hearing and then decided to come educate me properly. She heard you talking about high quality leaner protein as you staple and took that as eat nothing but protein! Bottom line, I couldn’t agree more with everything you stated! Great content!
I've seen people lose weight with interminttent fasting, but its a HARD NO from me. Mainly because in one meal, I can eat enough food for a week, and IMF is just going to get me to do that. Also, Stress gets me to eat more, and IMF increases stress horomones, which isn't good for me. And on top of that, its just easier for me to say NO to a doughnut in the morning, if I have food in my stomach.

Good call. Focus on the nutrition
Dear Scooby, you have a great tan. How do you think is the best way to get a tan healthily?
Thanks for all the great content
Your answer is in this video ... ua-cam.com/video/ZIiCKeVwLL8/v-deo.html

Scooby is the GOAT
Hey Scooby, big fan!
Wondering if you've seen a new Nature journal study called: "Total daily energy expenditure has declined over the past three decades due to declining basal expenditure, not reduced activity expenditure"?
I think its a wonderful piece showing that diet is indeed the biggest factor with obesity.
I will check it out! What was the publication date so I read the right one?

Went Vegan 7 years ago….Retired 2 years ago and started strength training. I still have a ways to go to get to the JACKED GRANDPA I want to be but I already look like a different person.
i love your videos and love the articles i hope it is ok i asked a very very long question on your article relating to this video i need help b4 i give up i have watched so many video and read so many things im not even sure what a correct workout looks like to drop weight
Great advice as always!
Use fasting if you want, best of luck to you. As far as "HGH" gains, show me the physique photo of how its working for you.
@@scooby1961 lol I don't expect HGH gains, but it's a natural mechanism against the muscle cannibalisation you mentioned, thx for the response
"Walking doesn't count" Well shit lmao, guess i'm back to the drawing board on that one.
Do you ever splurge on junk food? Or do you abstain from junkfood permantently. I get junkfood cravings, and then crash and burn.
Going on a cut right now lol. Great timing
AND you are the first comment!
Food is fuel.
Food is not a dopamine hit
correct
I have switched from walking to putting weight (currently 21kg) into my backpack and go for a walk wearing that. I walk 45minutes with that, usually do just over 5000 steps and actually feel it, when I've just walked I could do that for hours and hours on end without an issue. This way I noticed my heart rate and breathing changing. I usually do that after my my weight training.
Careful with fucking up your back!!
Wow
what helped me was going keto combined with daily 20 hour fasting. i lost 50 lbs just doing that. no calorie counting and so far being a couple years in has so far been very successfull.
Thank you sooooo much!!!
Running was the best cardio for me because it caused greater appetite control. The body's biofeedback tells you that it's harder running when you are heavier. Unfortunately, my joints did not keep up, and I had to quit.
Golden words ❤
No one explains so honestly.
Thanks for the advice.
You are very welcome!
@scooby1961 did you hear latest news on Trevor Jacobs? He is finally found guilty and is about to face 20 years in federal prison
LOL! :)
So happy you’re still doing this, Scoob. Thank you.
I've seen people lose weight with interminttent fasting, but its a HARD NO from me. Mainly because in one meal, I can eat enough food for a week, and IMF is just going to get me to do that. Also, Stress gets me to eat more, and IMF increases stress horomones, which isn't good for me. And on top of that, its just easier for me to say NO to a doughnut in the morning, if I have food in my stomach.
scoobonatore....misssed u
