Connected my Eufy home base but I was not able to add any of my Eufy cameras or doorbell to my my Apple HomeKit.
So I am interested in this or these products but I'm an android user... so I'm going to have to get an apple device of some sort... also one question that no one seems to talk about is what happens or what do you do when you sell your house that has the smart home features? Do you take it all down or... sell it as a feature of the house and then how do you hand off the controls to the new owners? 🤔
One good practice to do, is to always uses Scenes to control your home devices. Then under automations, when an event is triggered, you run the scene instead of listing everything under the automation. When running a scene, you can also then set a timer to turn off that scene. For instance I have a scene that turns on the bathroom light (Turn Guest Bath Vanity Light On). I then have a motion sensor in that bathroom. When the sensor detects motion between the hours of 6 AM and 11 PM AND when someone is at home (I have cats that like to roam around the house when we are gone), then run the scene (Turn Guest Bath Vanity Light On). I then set the Turn Off timer to "After 15 minutes". Therefore, after the scene runs, if no motion is detected after 15 minutes, the light automatically turns off. I also have the time of day set so the lights don't come on during the night for night time bathroom breaks. There is a nightlight in that bathroom that comes on when it is dark at night which provides just enough illumination so I don't stumble in the dark and it doesn't ruin my night vision.
A great beginner video to help you get started with HomeKit.
Great info! Did you review the security camera system you mentioned? Thanks.
Once everything is transferred from one hub to HomeKit, can I remove/disconnect my old hub and just use HomeKit?
Ok, as a beginner your video is titled “Getting started….” however most of the devices you have are already connected via bridges and other apps. I’m completely lost! If you,red going to do a “Getting started….” You need to assume the viewer is actually Getting started and doesn’t have any thing already connected! This actually should be titles “Switching from…”!
I only expect HomeKit to improve from here. Apple obviously has a vision for how the smart home will look in the future. I'm excited to see how it evolves in the upcoming years. I'm sure a few years down the road that we will hardly recognize the original Home app. Nice video, Steve and great recommendations for a beginner in the HomeKit arena. HomePod Mini for life!
Not sure about that. The original Home app from 2014 isn’t much different than the one today.
I agree!!
I have the HomePod Mini and it is definitely the best Smart Speaker!!
This is the biggest TIP from an IT guy. If you get switches, go with Lutron as they don't use WIFI for stability. For bulbs-Hue is fine, but nano leaf if using homepod mini is also perfect as no WIFI either-using thread. I had all Wi-Fi switches in house-like 18 of them-worst decision ever! Wi-Fi 2.4 is favorite for device manufacturers and combine that with 28 neighboring signals-you "Not Responding" nightmare will begin! I guarantee it! The least Wifi 2.4Ghz devices you can use-the better. Also, if you must have a few 2.4Ghz devices like me, then note that some routers have specific settings to play nice with IOT devices.
Accidentally removed my home from HomeKit. Now I added everything back except Lutron cannot find the hub.
I hate you are FORCED to get rid of your normal light bulb for a completely different and possibly worse one
My house is being built, what lights and garage door opener, tv to turn on would I need or product would you recommend, maybe do a video for starting from scratch
We should get an update for 2023 based on HomeKit now being compatible with Thread and Matter.
This was a bit too high level. I didn’t understand the camera setup. It seems you need to set them up first in the Eufy app and then add to HomeKit? Is same true for the Phillips? Would be nicer if you could just add directly to HomeKit without first setting up with another service & app.
I would recommend just setting up the manufacturers app anyways, for the sake of firmware updates, and extra functionality. There is a workaround with the Eufy camera, that has been mentioned in various reviews, whereby you can set it up in the Eufy app, add it to HomeKit, unplug the camera, remove it from the app, and then plug the camera back in again.
As for Hue, you cannot add lights to the bridge without the app, but in anycase, it’s lights, so you shouldn’t have any security concerns.
Where do the cams store detection of events? On your apple accounts iCloud, or on a sd card or in the home hub?
Very nice video! I have 2 questions:
1. What’s a bridge?
2. What’s the difference between scenes and automations?
Thanks
1. A bridge, is bridging the connection of a device to your network. Eg; Philips Hue lights, use Zigbee, a low power mesh protocol, so they need a bridge which supports Zigbee, and then interfaces with the network. Same goes for Aqara, you’d need one of Aqara’s various bridge models eg; M1S. These products have solid reliability.
2. A scene is doing a group of things at once, so let’s say, I have a seen called ‘Chill’, and it sets a lightstrip to be green, my lightbulb to be a cool white, and turns on a smart plug connected to a fan.
An automation, is taking a trigger, say, the time of day, or a sensor, eg a motion sensor, and triggering something, it could be a scene, it could be specific accessories etc.
I have been using Alexa for years I just got the iPhone 13 pro max my first iPhone and I like it a lot mostly the privacy now I want to go all apple computer smart home stuff all of it
Two minutes into this video and you have given no valuable information!
I don’t know if I understood you correctly. If I have an iPhone, do I need to buy the HomeKit to use Apple home compatible devices?
Great video mate but, the sound of the transitions (the little static noises) are extremely irritating when listening through earphones.
How can I get out of the home app, I mistakenly pressed to it and now I can't get out of it
כ can I use my Mac HD hub for HomeKit?
Can homekit notify me on my iphone when a condition is met? If so, how?
Can we connect Philip's lights and aqara sensors on the same bridge, on a homepod? And eve lights and many other brands without buying there original bridge?? Help
Eve uses Thread and / or Bluetooth, that just connects to your HomeKit hub, potentially if Matter comes out, you’ll be able to link Hue lights and Aqara sensors to the same Zigbee bridge, but for now, you’ll need the manufacturers own bridge.
Hello mate. Nice video. I am renovating some offices in my city and I wanted to understand which was the smartest system to manage the lowering of the shutters and the switching on / off of the lights from the phone. but i don't want to use alexa or google. some advice? I live in italy by the way.
Do separate device company needs separate bridge???
My first day room on the bottom. Where can I find it
Can I also put my Apple TV on the home kit? If yes how?
Nice shirt... Where did you get it from?
Great video! I have a combination of Alexa and Google Home compatible devices. I would ultimately like to move everything to HomeKit, but how can I figure out which devices are compatible with HomeKit without looking at each device by device. Is there a master list somewhere that I can use to just see what works with HomeKit?
I have been frustrated by products that say they're Siri compatible in the past. They don't seem to integrate into home kit. Instead they expect you to use there app and add specific trigger phrases that will work with Siri for every scene and automation you want to use. It's not the same as HomeKit compatible.
what do I do if I got a new network? I have a previous home and now I am wondering if I need to switch everything over to a new home or just delete them and re-add them to my new network? There has to be an easier way.
How do you handle more than one person living in your house? When *I* leave the house, I do not want to set my thermostat to away if the family isn't coming with me to work, for example.
Watch this video and take a shot every time he says "go ahead and...". You'll be passed out in a few minutes.
My (ex) boyfriend did all of this and i feel very controlled. I think he knows when im home and what i watch on apple tv etc…
I try to set up my iPad to be the center of home, So I can use from distance by the iPhone but I can’t do it. Can you help me,please?
No one is showing the time you want your light to come off or on. Ex: want my light to cut on at 8am & turn off at 5pm if you know how to do this please tell me
You just make a new automation, and it’s the 3rd option down, ‘A Time of Day Occurs’, and then you choose the time, and tell it what accessories to control.
@@GreeniusGenius ya you make one to turn on at any time you want then you make another one for the time you want off. Works great
PRIVACY. If the homekit hub saves the video, then why do we need iCloud space? Or is it that the video is encrypted on the hub before sent to iCloud?
I noticed that you have some garden lights. I would like a homekit automation to turn on the garden lights after midnight if there is a person in the yard. Is this possible? so with eufy motion detector and an added o/off switch (Geeni?) for garden lights can this happen? Turning on the garden lights (or other yard lights) does 2 things. Adds more light for the eufycam to identify intruder and potentially scares intruders away as they know they are being identified... maybe.
The way you explain this was so simple,I looked at other videos and it was crazy thank you
Hi, I'm looking in to the HomeKit Ecosystem and thought about if you were able to play a doorbell sound on your Sonos speakers whenever the doorbell button was pressed.
Hope to hear from you soon
William
Hey Steve,
Is it possible to give access to only one room for eg a child in the homekit.
So the child can only control his own room, without being able to control other rooms in the house?
p.s. I watch all your videos with great pleasure.
How do you add zwave devices
I wish they would just come up with a standard that works with anything
Thanks man!!! And what about Echos. Are those controllable from home? Do i need a bridget o do so?
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to control my smart plug with HomeKit. Can someone explain to me how to schedule my plug to turn on at certain time and turn off at a certain time. I don't see a on and off option.
If I scan my hue bridge, will it mess everything up on my Alexa app, or will the 2 apps just co-exist
Nope it’s fine, I use both every day, the integrations do not interfere.
For example, if I set my Hue bulbs to HomeKit adaptive lighting mode (which obviously Alexa wouldn’t understand), even if I toggle the bulbs on and off with my Amazon Echo, it remembers that light state, so it works perfectly.
"Because Apple is so adamant about your privacy"
😵💫😵💫😵💫
Awesome video, really helped me getting started!!
best homekit explanation video. great work
You are good bro
Wowwwwwwwww so cool 😎
My house is setup with zwave. How can I connect my zwave devices to homekit?
Look into Homebridge. You’d want to ideally run it on an always on Raspberry Pi, that’s wired to the network.
Thank you best video and exoplanations
Thank you so so much really appreciate
How can I add someone else to my home account ?
loving this video! thank u sm
So do we have to have a bridge device?
Amazing. Simple and cute
Any chance you could link to where I can find that round plant with led lights in it, in the rear left of the background? Thanks.
It’s just a topiary you can find something like that at any craft store like Michaels or Amazon then put a very short string of lights on it.
Great video! Question: do you have to have the hue bridge to be able to use Phillips hue light bulbs with the apple HomePod mini? What if the light bulbs are bluetooth...is the bridge still needed?
You do need the bridge. I actually just bought some hue bulbs without the bridge and cannot add them until I pick one up.
The Hue bridge is what is HomeKit certified, it is the interface to HomeKit.
Well done. It is a little fast.
what lamp do you use in the video??
where did the music come from
Awesome tips!
You only have to go into the settings on the AppleTV or the iPad to set the up as a hub. The HomePod and HomePod Mini will automatically set up as a hub. If you have an AppleTV set up first as a hub, then the HomePod's will be in standby mode. If the AppleTV is powered down or something uses it to not run, then one of the HomePod's will automatically take over controlling your home. Once the AppleTV comes back online, control will switch back to it. Unless you go into the AppleTV settings and set the AppleTV to not be a hub. I have an original AppleTV 4K and several HomePod Mini's and that is how it works for me.
Great video, lots of good information which you’ve explained in detail. What generation of Apple TV is required to function as the hub?
This is great content, thank you. Do you know if you're able to automatically turn on a TV to display the eufy cams upon motion detection in the apple environment? Also would like an announcement that is more than just a notification on the phone. Trying to setup an early warning security detection around the perimeter of my home that turns on TV, displays camera that detected the motion and announces through the house that motion was detected
Count how many times he says "go ahead and"
It was painful. I had to stop watching halfway through. Not sure why but this seems to be common with a LOT of others too
Lets go to the point
Great music choice- i love starting my morning with worship and praising God 🙌🏼 thanks for sharing!
Not all phones use iOS... 😏
Def would like more vids on automations and scenes pls!!!
