Making The Game Awards the gaming equivalent of the MTV Movie Awards sounds like an awful idea imo. Completely reduces the impact and pushes out the idea that games are still a secondary format that doesn't deserve respect, a sentiment that Jeff is still desperately trying to weed out of the public consciousness. If this is the mainstream look into games once a year, it cannot be seen as a joke ceremony.
'Best game for Kids' is a reductive title if you're arguing about its viability for the mainstream. It signifies that this game is for kids, not for 'the whole family', which indicates to someone, "Well, I'm not a kid, so guess I don't need to look into that game then."
Yeah, Greg came off quite bad in this one imo. Glad Blessing was there to check him every now and then. Hopefully this years show will have learned from everything that went wrong last year, that's the biggest thing we can hope for.
Greg's logic is flawed... saying 'If you don't like the Game Awards, then start your own show' is dismissive as reductive. This argument could apply to almost anything! ''Don’t like this restaurant? Open your own.' 'Don’t like this movie? Make your own.' It oversimplifies criticism and ignores the fact that expressing valid feedback doesn't require the ability to create an alternative. The episode is titled "Fixing The Game Awards," ironically opens with Greg telling people to just accept things as they are. What was the point of this episode if it’s just Greg absolving Geoff Keighley of any criticism?
But all those things would be true though. Problem is the critics want to turn this thing into basically another dice or bafta with no consideration at all to what the majority of these audiences watch this show for..
Greg is pretty funny but he tends to tow the company line when it comes to these things. I wouldn't expect cogent criticism from him on stuff like this. Blessing was on point for some of the changes he wanted to do.
I don’t disagree with you but I think Greg made a better point earlier when he said that people complain about a lot of things when it comes to TGAs but then completely ignore game award shows that address those very complaints.
I think i disagree with the diverse faces being the reason for new hosts, i think he just needs new people announcing awards. Maybe one day when he steps away fully but he does very well at bringing diverse devs/actors up to announce awards.
You can't fix the Game Awards because they'd have to want to be fixed first. And they're not in a situation where they'd have a reason to want that at the moment.
if Cyberpunk was just "not nominated" as they claim - with just a little evidence as people claiming it outright wasn't allowed - then why would Geoff feel the need to make a statement saying DLC are allowed if it was so understood Cyberpunk could have been nominated in 2023 a but just wasn't? It's a bad argument. DLC belongs in Ongoing Game especially considering you can't even play Erdtree without owning/playing Elden Ring (2022).
Yeah i'm fine with Shadow of the Erdtree and Remakes being nominated for goty. And imo i don't know if DLC/Expansions and Remakes should have their own game awards category cause we honestly don't get that many notable ones a year if at all to warrant its own category.
Hard disagree. We as humans make orders of things for a reason. You don’t see this kinda drama in other mediums. It’s only gaming that this dumb stuff is allowed and promoted to be legitimate.
@J_Tevo I'm saying that this night is about the devs, and appreciating the work they put into things we love. We should be celebrating that. Not cutting off their speeches to get a half hour back (with the exception of Chris Judge. That was excessive)
Games media doesn’t realize they aren’t us. This entire episode is just media channel talking about and to another media channel. Y’all are too close to the medium and industry to give or get NORMAL PERSON’S, a REGULAR PERSON’S perspective. None of this conversation matters. I wish y’all talked about anything else. Game awards and reviews outside of Dice and Bafta (and the like) DO. NO. MATTER. It’s just channels, podcast and influencers blowing smoke at and up each other’s bums. And Keighley’s thing is LITERALLY A GIANT COMMERCIAL. ITS NOT ABOUT AWARDS WHEN THE VOTING IS NONSENSICAL. I hate this season. Just give me the trailers and skip all this nonsense.
The Game Awards absolutely do matter to developers and fans. People remember when God of War won over RDR2 in 2018. No one remembers who won at Bafta or Dice because very few people watch those shows. It’s not perfect but I believe Geoff’s jury of international outlets is much better than a full fan vote or only game devs voting because they don’t have time to play all the games
The big timing bit is giving me such always sunny energy 😂
Idk Greg, rushing devs off the stage to get Al Pacino on stage kinda sucks.

That was a dope episode, lots of debate, opinions but respectful and fun, that’s what I love about KF.
a lot of these are not tga problems but a broader video games taxonomy issue

Step one: don’t nominate dlc for game of the year
Make your own show

I just wanna know why Mike was so quiet today 😢 I hope he’s okay 👍🏾

...Did they really put "Please wrap it up" in the thumbnail when the main complaint last year was rushing developers offstage for commercials?
What are you saying?

@@Orson_Welpall awards shows have time limits for award winners and presenters. There is a schedule that you have to roughly keep to.
@@raymondrembert6870I understand that. My complaint is about the schedule. 90 seconds per speech for a 4 hour ceremony is practically nothing
