University of Toronto: Design Fair - Neural Robotic Arm

University of Toronto student Ryan Mintz and his team have created a robotic arm that responds to brain waves captured with their headset. They hope to one day create robotic limbs or prosthetics that the wearer can control with their thoughts.

この種の研究は他の大学でも行われていて、ロボットではなくアバターを脳波で動かす実験も見たことがあります。この種の技術を使って、SecondLifeなどの仮想世界のアバターや、デアゴスティーニのロビを動かしたいと思う人もいると思います。ニーズがあれば、あるいは安価に市販される可能性も！？

The alpha-signal when the eyes are open and closed seems to be the only EEG-signal used. The other controls seems to be based on EMG.
