I’ve got to stop procrastinating… I’ve always wanted to order a batch from this channel. My 3 y/o loves maple syrup. Time to share real American made maple syrup with him.
So nice to see the season has started for you. Just reminds me to start getting my equipment ready for the upcoming season. I am still a bucket guy, so my tapping season is a little ways off. Have fun!!
I think the big difference on the time to tap depends if you’re pipe line tapping as here, or open bucket style. The latter will have to be done when the freeze/thaw cycle begins as the spout will be exposed to air that will cause the pores of the tree to seal up if it is not regularly producing sap. Ask me how I know! Stay warm and hoping for an excellent season!👍🇨🇭
I don’t know if you’ve ever worked outside or not. But trust me as country boy/Farmer 60+ years old it’s not exactly easy a lot of days lol and yes, I’ve been an educator chose to be outdoors when I left.
I have another job that requires me to sit at a desk, unfortunately. And yes farming is hard as hell, especially when you dairy farm like my dad and then watch what you worked your entire life for burn to the ground in a fire (happened after Thanksgiving) He’s the most hard working and currently the stressed out man I’ve ever seen. I worry about him a lot.
Good video 👍 I'm looking forward to seeing each new episode, it brings back a lot of fond memories 😊 Be safe out in the woods and try to stay warm and dry.
Thank you for watching! I just filmed one with Warren (my brother) yesterday that I’m hoping to edit and have up soon! It’s about the pump house setup!
Red, where your family lost the milking parlor for your cows. Hopefully you’re back up and running. Did not realize you were quite that big. Big fan of farming fixing fabricating. I believe they are Syracuse New York. God bless.
Yes it happened the Monday after Thanksgiving. Needless to say my dad probably won't be making many video appearances this year as he is working like a mad man and stressed to the max
@MapleFarmer i am originally from long Island, yes a flat lander spent most of my free time up in the woods upstate NY. Nice to see your progress and the woods and snow !!!
Do a channel collaboration with Outdoors with the Morgans, Pennsylvania to use his Dump truck to collect sap lines from hills to a pump station. Also bottle there own labeled syrup. Coach eli find deals on lines tanks transfer pumps. Your channel and retail sales as a supplier will explode.
May I ask how do you repair wire breaks? And Can you use a spoon of High strength WIRE ? And a way to connect your Wire breaks without to crimp them ? Free to you
Hi, how are you today? You are doing very good. Nice job and I hope that you get a lot of the syrup this year. You deserve it and I hope everything is good with you. You take care of yourself. Don’t get cold feet and be careful. Don’t trip off branches my friend OK See ya
@MapleFarmer yes I used to know a guy that thought maple syrup was supposed to be black I told him it was burnt I took a jar of clear and he said it was not maple syrup then I took some sugar in he said that it was just brown sugar and he ran a organic whole food store.
How does it work commercially. I mean we buy organic maple syrup all year from stores right. How do they get so much in quantity to feed entire Canada & USA
Oh that is true. We were shocked to know that even the one labelled organic by big corp, contains huge amount of added sugar. Anyways appreciate your work and making this video series. I have ordered my maple tapping kit and will see how it goes.
Yea when I was editing the video I noticed a tree on the left side of the screen that looked super sketchy… how I missed seeing that in real life is beyond me. 🫠
Thanks for sharing! What a healthy lifestyle. This is a crazy idea, but have you ever considered using a horse? They can navigate in between the trees, I learned this because an area of forest was protected against loggers, because they cut down ten trees for each one they harvest. An old timer was approved to log, using horses, because they only cut down the trees they harvested. He explained how easy it is for the horses to navigate between the trees in the woods.
I don’t think this would be plausible due to the amount of tubing, snow and ravines- it would take way longer on horse back. Plus walking gets me in shape.
I explain this is the video it’s because we sometimes get several feet of snow so we try to keep our tubing and drop lines high enough so they aren’t buried in snow!
never see a vid like this before brilliant
That’s crazy! Welcome!!
I’ve got to stop procrastinating… I’ve always wanted to order a batch from this channel. My 3 y/o loves maple syrup. Time to share real American made maple syrup with him.
You and Me both, procrastinating is the right word.
didint see snow here in southern ireland coast since 2018 great vid
We have plenty of snow here and more on the way!
You are a trooper getting out there in that cold windy weather.
I love working in the snow! When it’s windy the main thing for me is to remember ear pro to keep my ears warm and a heavier neck warmer!
I would really like to try your final product.

As a Southerner who lived in Boston for a year (winter of 2001-2), I miss the crunch of snow under my boots!
I do love working in the snow!
As a newbie to watching your videos, sure appreciate you sharing your knowledge and expertise
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you’ll stick around for more.
So nice to see the season has started for you. Just reminds me to start getting my equipment ready for the upcoming season. I am still a bucket guy, so my tapping season is a little ways off. Have fun!!
Fingers crossed it’s a good season!
Thanks for the video, I just do about 40 taps a year looking forward to this season.
Me Too!! I'll be hanging a few buckets in my backyard!

Correct!
What an amazing job you have Nicky. Much nicer than driving into an office every day!
I don’t know if you’ve ever worked outside or not. But trust me as country boy/Farmer 60+ years old it’s not exactly easy a lot of days lol and yes, I’ve been an educator chose to be outdoors when I left.
If only this was my only job. This is just my hobby 🫠

Thank you. Happy tapping.
Thank you too!
SIMPLY THE BEST Nikki !!!!!
Thank you for watching!!

@MapleFarmer very interested on how you do that. We were geographically lucky to be able to gravity feed.
Maple and pancakes sounds so yummy 🤤 really enjoyed your awesome cool video's ever much stay safe and warm take care 🤟
Thank you so much for watching! As long as you stay moving, you stay warm in the woods!
Beautiful video. Stay warm and be safe.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing another great video Nikki.
Thank you so much for watching!
@MapleFarmer it's pretty cool watching someone who is less than 45 minutes from me. Keep the videos coming, we all enjoy them.
Great video. 🙏 for a great season.👍
Thanks, we hope for a great season too!

That would be absolutely incredible! Just say the word @outdoorswiththemorgans and I'll be there!
May I ask how do you repair wire breaks? And Can you use a spoon of High strength WIRE ? And a way to connect your Wire breaks without to crimp them ? Free to you
Do you drill your holes on an angle?

I’m always tripping on branches! 😂
Thanks for bringing us along. Where do I get a tap pouch like that?
Sap on
UdderTech for like $12.
wondering how many taps total you will have in use for your season.
I used to cook it down in a 25 gallon cast-iron kettle.
That sounds so fun!
@MapleFarmer The early sap is best higher sugar content and clearer syrup and makes good sugar.
@@colinvoss8484 Our early season is always the best stuff!
@MapleFarmer yes I used to know a guy that thought maple syrup was supposed to be black I told him it was burnt I took a jar of clear and he said it was not maple syrup then I took some sugar in he said that it was just brown sugar and he ran a organic whole food store.
It looks like you are tapping red maples as well, am I correct?
That is correct
Smaller hammer than normal carpenter’s hammer? Do all your crews use a small hammer? Why or why not?
Great video, Where do you find the spout and tool bag?
UdderTech for like $12.
A one handed "Pruno" tool is a lot less cumbersome than that 2-handed thing. Thank you for sharing.
We have those but the angle isn’t quite right for these spouts
Not yet, here in the Adirondacks!
Soon!
You’re like the energizer bunny! I guess the deer don’t bother the lines to much. Unless I missed that episode.
They chew on them in some areas pretty bad but for the most part they don't cause too much damage
Good to see you back Beautiful.
Thanks for watching!
How does it work commercially. I mean we buy organic maple syrup all year from stores right. How do they get so much in quantity to feed entire Canada & USA
The demand isn’t that high as people believe that corn syrup labeled as “pancake syrup” or “table syrup” or “authentic syrup” is real maple syrup.
Oh that is true. We were shocked to know that even the one labelled organic by big corp, contains huge amount of added sugar.
Anyways appreciate your work and making this video series. I have ordered my maple tapping kit and will see how it goes.
I also don't like tapping when it's windy like crazy like this, so nervous ...
Yea when I was editing the video I noticed a tree on the left side of the screen that looked super sketchy… how I missed seeing that in real life is beyond me. 🫠

I don’t think this would be plausible due to the amount of tubing, snow and ravines- it would take way longer on horse back. Plus walking gets me in shape.
Why do you drill your tapholes so high up on the tree trunk?
I explain this is the video it’s because we sometimes get several feet of snow so we try to keep our tubing and drop lines high enough so they aren’t buried in snow!
You tap before the sap starts to run some people don't know that.
Just wondering how many hours per day you spend tapping- it makes my toes cold thinking about waking around in crunchy snow ! BRRRR
Haha normally if I’m just tapping and not putting on spouts I sweat!
I’ve wondered why harvesting the sap isn’t detrimental to the trees?
Think of it like a person giving blood!
Great answer Nikki
Remember Nikki, you should be looking up on windy day's or better yet stay out of the sugar bush on these day! Please be safe and have great season!!
Works for to get done…but I should probably look up a little more often
