..and the Oscar goes to...”The Story of a Little Red Platy” from Girl Talks Fish. 10/10 bags of popcorn and a standing ovation. Audiences are looking forward to the well deserved sequel eagerly in the coming years to win another Oscar. 3/4 cups of soda for the music- just outstanding work.

Mio is a male fish so its tail has no black spot right??? I got 3 platy fishes left ( after 6 ones 😢) but two types :one with complete red color and one with black spot at its tail but I don't know which one is female or male ???

@@DuyPham2014 I think Mio is too young to sex yet, but males have a thin, stick-like anal fin called a gonopodium, whereas females have a fan-shaped anal fin. 🚹🚺

Thank you so much! Yes, I wish it was more widely known that most livebearers are bred and raised in brackish water and need such high mineral content. Luckily, I can raise the fry up in my usual soft tap water so that they're used to it and won't have as many problems adapting to it. I still add some minerals to my tanks because my plants need it, but not at the insanely high levels that those adult platies and balloon mollies required.

Platy death usually because of Livebearer disease (stress and water quality). I learned my lesson too by using only mature water and adding mineral (dolomite powder) to add alkalinity and hardness. After that they are fine, at least for now. Nice video!

I have a similar story to Mio but my fish is a gold dust molly male I named Dusty. I bought him along with a large plethora of other mollies, a couple of angels and some female bettas to stock a balcony tank I had set up. Over time, the other mollies were dying one by one until there were two remaining. Since Dusty and the remaining sibling was a male, they had ran out of females to try and breed with. With Dusty’s last sibling dying, he was left alone with the angels and female bettas. I gave him some new friends when I went fish shopping on my birthday and I have been able to keep a group of them together ever since, grooming them and raising them all together as best as I can. The female bettas are now gone and only the angels remaining, they’re now living together in harmony but they are quite skittish around me so I make sure to give them plenty of hiding spaces.

We are almost finished with our 3ft tank setup (most of the last fish is in the qt tank) when the one female guppy that we used to help cycle the tank got near her due date. I wanted to let the fry go and be food to the honey gourami's, how ever my wife and son wanted to save them. Bought a breeder box, placed mommy guppy inside and she gave birth to only 4 fry. All of them escaped the nursery. The honey gourami's were waiting outside to greet them...

I use Paraguard from Seachem for 2 weeks and they are gentle. And if I feel the need to,treat specific disease with other med but I use medicated fish flakes.Everything aquatic offer good medicated fish flakes and they got lavamisle one too. I only used Anti parasite Duo flakes so far but I got lavamisole one for just in case situation in fish food drawer.

Yo Irene! I have new otos that came in a variety of sizes from 3/4 inch to adult, which makes me think they are wild caught. They came in underfed but no sunken bellies. The smallest one died yesterday but the others seem good, so nothing obvious.. I'm pretty sure the angelfish that came with them have internal parasites. They are in quarantine for at least another 3 weeks while my new 55 gal cycles. I'm growing algae on rocks to feed them in the new tank. Is it okay to do the med trio on otos? Also, I will be out of town next week. Should I wait until I get back or just crank up the heat, dose and go? Thanks for all your content. I'm really enjoying it and congrats on joining Aquarium co-op.

My friend gave a male platy that used to be the alpha male and when he got old another alpha male appeared and bullied him so bad that he had to hide all the time and couldn't even eat! So I adopted him and read that platys can be alone, he shared a 10 gallon with three nerite snails, he was three years old when I got him, lived 8 more months with me, really active, ate a lot! Such a cute guy 🥰

@@Gastrocnemious Aww, poor thing! Thanks for stepping in! I wouldn't mind doing one and some guppies, long as he/she won't get lonely lol
