3:01 to play that solo without missing a note, while playing the rhythm and bassline is absolutely insane. Most guitarists would just struggle with the solo by itself.
It's beyond brilliant
No fancy intro, edits, camera angles or sound effects.....Just music in its purest form!
It hurts so good...
I've lived my entire 64-plus years in the US, hearing all the very best guitarists.
This is as good as anything I've ever heard before, and better than most.
Also, I never say anything I don't really mean.
I've been playing guitar for half a century (yes, you read that right). This guy makes me want to sell my guitar and take up knitting or something.
Stunning. Just....stunning.
You mean a kid.. 😅
@@tekatoanimeyt3206 LOL! at my age, almost EVERYONE is a kid. ;)
@Genius Idiot Ha! Yea, in my old eyes, he probably IS an infant! And the fact that he is literally that young only makes me look into knitting or pottery or something since my guitar only laughs at me these days.
Ahh...but he IS fun to listen to, isn't he?
Don't take up knitting, sewing, needlepoint or any of that - you'll lose your man card altogether....
@@Last_one_before_I_go LMAO! Damn, I was afraid of that.
I attended Kent's show in in London, Canada on April 12, 2024. Kent was featured with Don Ross. A great combination of unique percussive solo guitarists. They both stayed behind after the show for personal autographs and photos. Incredible playing! I have been playing guitar for over 60 years (now focused on jazz guitar style) and their performance absolutely impressed me.
Absolutely fantastic. This arrangement somehow covers every element of lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, percussion, lead vocals, and backup vocals. Godmode.
Playing Rhythm, Harmony(w/Melody/Hook & Vocal inflections) Drum/Percussion/Groove & solo...
...SEEMLESS. This kid was touch'D by God's Hand...WOW
This man’s mastery of the guitar is unlike anything I’ve seen or heard.
One of my fav things about kent besides his talent and skill is his song selection haha. im 50 and grew up with all these songs. its awesome to see they still resonate.
As a long-time guitarist, watching this is very humbling . . . but also inspiring. Exceptionally good!
Saw him in Sudbury. He's the real deal. Both Kent and Don were excellent.
I am officially typing 11 minutes since the video ended due to me being speechless. And I still don't know what to say. I REALLY want to compliment you but no words can explain how extremely talented you are... I have utmost respect for you and I truly admire your music. The pure and powerful energy you play with plus the relaxed feeling a person feels just by listening is enough to cure some people of some conditions they might suffer from, I'm sure of it.
Even the harmonies are all covered. So good.
Wow, even played the harmonies. Jesus my fingers cramped just watching.
It’s not right that I can only register a single ‘like’ for this... this deserves so much more recognition. Amazing - if I heard this without seeing it, it wouldn’t even occur to me that it was a single person playing a single guitar in one take. Gave me an adrenaline rush.
Douglas White shut the fuck up
@@bobrocks83 having a bad day or have you always had trouble making friends?
Fucking calm down Doug don’t have an existential crisis.
while this video isnt making me go into cardiac arrest like doug, if you told me it was one guy I'd totally call bullshit, that's very impressive

😆🙌🏻🎸✨
I've played guitar for a few decades and I use it mostly to back up my singing. I thought that I had this tune down, until I saw this video. WTF. This guy didn't learn this from someone else. He had to write this entire arrangement. Incredible!!! Great job Mr. Nishimura.
Drop D tuning, Kent?
The G string is tuned down to F# also
@@OdhranOC You're right. As Kent clearly mention in description, the tuning is below.
Tuning : D A D F# B E
惚れ惚れするヴォイシング のセンスとテクニックですね、原曲の良さが存分に伝わってきます。
Exceptional. One of the best acoustic pop rearrangements on guitar I’ve heard. The integration of rhythm/harmony parts is so rich and seamless. That’s what makes this stand out
Acoutic**
Yes, seamless
Thank you for this lesson, Kent. I was a professional sax player, but now I'm a retiree and a guitar student. Right from the beginning of learning, I found that my hands took me to fingerstyle playing, while normal picks drove me nuts. Fortunately, there are people like you who show how! Hearing and seeing the way you are approaching one of my all-time favorite songs is tremendously helpful as well as being encouraging. This is one of those "I love it and I don't want to mess it up" kind of songs - a classic that never gets old. I don't have an acoustic, but I DIY'd a little "tap pad" using a piezoelectric element, and fastened it on with double-faced foam tape. Did temporary wiring, but I'll refine that now. It works surprisingly well for a 'lash-up' and gives that drum-like sound. This tune will take a while to learn, but worth every minute. You've done a superb arrangement, and done it in a way where it sounds "complete" by itself. This is Wonderful! Many thanks! It's things like what you're doing that make me want to keep learning, and playing. Thank You!
He makes it look effortless
Kent, this is an absolutely breathtaking arrangement! I’m lost for words..... it is so damn good!
You would know, Casper....You're a prodigious player yourself....
It's because he'd rather leave a place of silence instead of trying to get the right filled in note, at the cost of the flow or the whole.
Man which tuning does he uses?
@@Morani27 Hi sir the tuning is D A D F# B E(almost an open D except for the B)
It so pretty
I’ve been playing for 35 years and I’m stunned at what I’m watching
I just watched "40 fingers" play a version of this, and Kent did by himself what all 4 guys did together and it sounds better. Bravo, nice job!
Haha true! Can’t argue
After watching Andy Mckee's Africa in 2006, I never imagined I'd see someone do it better. The work you do is incredible.
defintely more lively. lostless format. everything, every detail, drums, bass, snare, taps and strums are all contained. wonderful work of Kent.
INCRREDIBLE this man is playing every instrument on his acoustic guitar!!!!!!
and singing
He's not even a man yet, he's barely a teen, check out his other videos where you can see his face. he's such a good musician you have to check out the rest of his stuff.
I imagine King David was this gifted with his instruments. He wrong so many songs to the Lord
Grace for sure
Or, he may have possibly even exceeded it. The Bible says that he danced before the LORD with all is might.❤😮😮😅
That’s simply fabulous. How anyone can be motivated to give it thumbs down is beyond me ... maybe just plain jealousy!
One of the really smart moves from Kent is that he hasn't rushed EVERYTHING that he has ever played to UA-cam. Too many really great budding artists just throw everything up there, with terrible production quality, which completely diminishes their brand. Kent, or his handlers, has smartly avoided this--so everything he posts is top quality.

This is what it sounds like to hear someone who has a deep, consuming love for music. As an old musician, I can't find a single flaw with Kent's arrangement. He makes me want to listen forever.
Man...done properly fingerstyle is simply awesome to listening too, but when you're able to both hear & see all of the intricacies working together... technique, fluidity and other workings such as picking note for note, crisp harmonics the overall blend of everything...it's nothing short of an absolute joy to hear and experience. Thank you for sharing your gift
Kent, you're so good that I find myself not paying attention to the technical details, even as a guitarist, and just get transported by your music.
The solo got me crackin up.. this is so insanely difficult yet it still has a personal vibe to it! This is a great performance!!
When u break it down phrase by phrase, technique by technique, this is achievable ( I can't play it yet) but if you are an intermediate guitarist who really wants it, you can get there in less time than u may think
This has got to be one of the best arrangements on the tube. This is beyond incredible.
Arno Deboosere agree..
You should check out Andy McKee's cover of Toto it's probably the best cover I've ever seen of the song! Not that Kent's was bad at all.
Adam Lee both of them is good, much better than me..☺️ cos i cann’t play Toto yet
I can only image if Luca Stricagnoli did it. You guys should check out his cover of Hold The Line.
@@kob627 As you clearly mention as "", I don't mean to hurt your feelings at all.
Andy McKee and Kent Nishimura. They have different guitar style and different attraction. In fact, each of their tunings Andy and Kent used on this song are totally different. Hearing the very first introductions among their arrangements for the first 10 seconds, it's very easy for anyone to know that both of them are so different. This is what Kent covered this well-known song with his original arrangement. That's it.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to mention that Kent and Andy have respected each other since Kent met Andy in person a few years ago at backstage of Andy's concert as Andy kindly invited Kent to Andy's concert in Tokyo. Before Andy met Kent at the time, he spoke of Kent very highly below soon after Andy listened to Kent's album.
========================================================
Andy McKee
Kent sounds like a great young player! I think he'll be one of the best and will carry the Fingerstyle guitar torch well into the future!
========================================================
Respecting Andy, Kent uploaded THE Andy's beautiful original song "Rylynn" exactly the same way Andy plays on Kent's UA-cam channel below. "Rylynn" is one of Kent's favorite songs since he was very little boy.

I am not sure if I have heard that much music come from one guitar....I don't use this word often - GENIUS!!!
Wow... your use of drone notes / open strings / accents (subtle slide in's ... etc)... amazingly articulated... thank you yet again for a beautiful rendition of a classic song!
So he played the parts for the drums, the bass, the keyboard, and the vocal.... Amazing...
not the vocal lol, I played that.
Dude's playing gets to me. Man. Incredible.
This guy is a monster! I can't believe his talent!
Insane off-the-scale talent.😲 That was an incredible rendition, and the guitar "sung" the song wordlessly. This lad is a true guitar guru.
You are the savant of guitar. Period. Like if you agree.
Это невероятно круто!!!! Супер!!!! Привет из Сибири!
Just unbelievably good. The best player I've ever seen, hands down.
Faithful every note every beat every chord every melody .. amazing
Get this man more views! This is just an incredible arrangement performed brilliantly! Can’t even imagine how much work you’ve put in to be this good. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.
The flat out absolute best guitar playing on UA-cam. Can you say G.O.A.T.!!!!
Listen man, iv'e been around, and iv'e seen some things... and this arrangment + Careless Whisper, are definitely the best covers on UA-cam.
What I like the most is that you really capture the feeling and the beat of the original song, and all in a smooth exciting way.
I think you gonna be a superstar here and everywhere soon.
Keep on the amazing work!
To me I like steing drive that Andy McKee puts into the chorus. But everyone that plays this style of fingerpickin has their own twists. They all are great in their own ways.
I think exact the same thing! He’s so amazing and talented!
An endorsement from the man himself!! I'm not only glad to have more sources of amazing fingerstyle but also see the support among its members. \m/
He isn't already???
Yoni! This means a lot coming from you, I'm sure!
Imagine making a percussive fingerstyle cover of Africa when there's already Andy Mckee & Alexandr Musko... and and still making it your own with a fresh, unique fingerstyle interpretation. Bravo Sir.
I agree with Wes Rogers ! I taught myself to play 25 years ago but this is just Astronomical Playing. Excellent, Bravo, Brilliant. 👍👍
I wasn’t ready for the solo. Had to back that $hit up and watch it 5 more times .

Seriously
The whole song was a solo 😉. But I get your point.

Who can put a thumb down to such talent and soul!?
That would be the jealous ones who can't play a guitar that good. hahaha
people with no talent and no soul, but a thumb
People fighting for a place in the HHOF (Haters Hall Of Fame)
Jealous haters or those who don't play any musical instruments
I know! Crazy that someone would put a thumbs down.

The Guitar Gods are looking down and Smiling... In the right hands, The guitar is an incredibly expressive instrument. In this case, We hear Vocal Melody, Bass, Rhythm, percussion all done up in one package. I like how it starts off with Jeff Porcaro’s shuffle beat. To the Naysayers who don’t believe this is possible. It is indeed obtainable with practice and experimentation. A good sense of timing doesn’t hurt.
Practice is so important, and I believe that anyone can get better with time if they put in the work... but some people have a special gift that you could spend the rest of your life chasing and never come close to. It’s such a beautiful thing to see.
You evil
Thanks for giving us hope
@@viclopresti6826 You dont have to be the best to feel good with your playing.
That’s true. One could arrange the best sounding piece in musical theory but to put it across as practical music on an instrument and particularly the guitar is entirely a different ball game.
But we don’t have to always be the best. We must learn what it feels like to ‘not be the winner’ as well. That’s the problem with our generation.
I've been chasing Chett Atkins picking on and off for a decade

Love to hear the different style used to play this. I first heard Andy McKee’s version many years ago and thought this wouldn’t be as good but it is. Love them both.
Wow. Ok. I'm Irish and drunk, stereotype I know, but damn. Tears man. Good Lord above. Talent doesn't need a name. It just needs a medium, and bam. There it is.

This is pure gold. Genius, man. Great job.
That finger and accuracy and timung tho. 😗🥰🥰
this brought back childhood memories of listening to this song in the car...not even listening to the actual song does that...
Best "africa" finger style cover existing (thus far). Amazing work prioritising the elements and lines that make the song beautiful, and making them work seamlessly on guitar. Brilliant.

this is more than professionalism, if you hear the sound its clean and complete... i love his style...

It can't be played better than this. Absolutely Genius! ✌️
I'm thinking about the music magazines of my 1980s youth, and how they regularly named "the top 10 greatest guitarists in the world" and stuff like that. It was always a few usuals like Jimmy Page and Hendrix, and then some embarrassing flavors of the year like the guy from Quiet Riot or Twisted Sister. I think we can now agree that the greatest guitarists in the world are folks whom unfortunately most people have never heard of.
@Anthony Greco
That went on in the guitar magazines of my youth in the late 90s. And it’s pathetic spirit resides despite having witnessed dozens of YT-guitar-geniuses: The tendency to list guitarists and the ghosts of overcome eras of the page-Clapton-Hendrix trinity. It’s pathetic. This here is pure skill.
This thing is not that difficult to play. It's still a lot of work. There's not genius or deep creativity here. It's still well done.
@Romain Bertrand
Nobody claimed as much. Creating an arrangement of an existing tune is maybe not as creative as composing an original, it is still creative and ingenuine when done well. This one is done well. Nobody said something about geniuses. Hendrix and Page weren’t geniuses either.
@@agdolany1094 You're right. Peace.
@@agdolany1094 I think people forget why Hendrix is on that list. He pushed the limit on what people did with guitar, much the same way UA-cam guitarists are today. His genius was in the techniques he used to get sounds out of his guitar nobody else was getting.
Do I consider him one of the best guitarists TODAY? Not by a Longshot. But neither am I arrogant enough to dismiss his talent, accomplishment, and the influence his playing has had on literally generations of guitarists. Go listen to Machine Gun. Or really any other of his songs they don't play on the radio. You'll see why he's considered one of the greats, and yes, a genius.
Page, on the other hand, is a sloppy guitarist who got lucky with finding a sound.
Wow complicated tuning but magically soothing. Makes me want to play it by the campfire with my African friends...
Dios!! Tremendo hace hasta los coros
The magic builds as the tune moves forward. That's an outstanding accomplishment in arrangement and performance. A lot of fingerstyle players - and songwriting musicians generally - find the most tasty and powerful magic early on, and then more or less recapitulate it along with some technical innovation as the tune progresses. Here it find whole new levels, as if waking up to itself. Stunning. Brilliant.
This is flat out incredible. Wonderful job man, this arrangement is unlike anything I've ever heard.
Right hand technique is very very good. Great timing.
I just watched my 2nd video of Kent performing and all's I can say is... This kid's the real deal,

Positively MIND BLOWING!!! All those hours practicing in childhood were NOT wasted!! He has a magnificent God-given he shares with others and will have for the rest of his life. Amazing!!
Kent, you are an entire band...so nice to hear from this !
Yes! Not only an ACTUAL SOLO (not playing a track of the other instruments) but is amazingly executed.
It's a SOLO within a solo.

Most people will under appreciate exactly what this guy is doing in his performance. Most musicians don't and moreover cant cover all aspects of a song in a single solo performance. Amazingly, he's covering both lead vocals, drums, chorus, bass, etc etc. hes doing all of it simultaneously!!!!. in other words.. every extension of both his arms wrists hands and fingers are independently doing their own thing. or thing of it like this. imagine playing a piano with your fingers toes lips and teeth!!!. Really think of this song whilst he's playing, and you'l see he's covering every aspect of it. Amazing! and beyond skillful.
Check out Peter Bence doing this on piano.
He is not making all the percussions here.
When you thought you seen the best, then comes a youngster and knocks it out of the park. The bar is now raised, again.
captures an entire band on one guitar- just wow!!
