- The trunk of the 1956 Plymouth Savoy was full of rust, tar, bronzed patch panels and pinholes so we decided to weld in multiple patch panels. Now we're going to show how to finish the trunk repair to a show car finish using rocker guard, seam sealer, and speckled trunk paint.
** Our 1956 Plymouth Savoy needs some TLC aka rust repair. This series of videos will show what to do when your classic car has rust issues **

Chad I went to a vocalization school, in the 70s,, you would be a great teacher,, hell you are,, teaching every move you make,, you are a incredible teacher,, of body work and making something out of nothing,, but what you see in your mind,,
Simple, affordable, realistic, effective, auto repair, impressive.
Holly crap that looks brand new. Great job.
Wow! The trunk looks awesome. You could not tell it had 6 or 7 patches done to it afterwards. Great work Chad and Jolene. Doug did an awesome job getting it cleaned out and prepped. Awesome video!!
Thanks Chad, I think most people are on a budget when working on their old cars and you have shown what great results you can achieve on a tight budget. Great stuff!
I must admit that is a good driver trunk. All my cars are drivers so I get it. In the end the trunk came out fantastic. This may be one of the best tutorials you have done! (as for practical info anyone can do)
Wonderful result of putting a few hours of work, thanks for sharing
Show car that is a strong statement!
Love your work and videos. Jolene is great with the camera.
This is not a rare or valuable car, what your doing is more than the car possibly deserves, it’s a car to be driven and enjoyed, I truly enjoy all your videos
Doug you did a great iob on that trunk floor. 😊
Just like factory and fast, great job Chad and beautiful camera shot Joline..
Nice job Chad and Doug! It’s a night and day difference.
BAD CHAD I REALLY LOVE YOUR WORK ON TRUNK GREAT JOB AND THANKS TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL WIFE FOR PUT CLOSED CAPTION FOR DEAF I AM BORN DEAF I ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO TTHANKS CHAD & JOLIE
simple, easy , clean and anyone can do it !! two thumbs up
Im surely no body man but wet your finger when passing over your seam sealer. Just like caulking the house. A wet finger prevents the goop sticking to your finger. Love your shows look forward everyday for the next episode. Thank you and God Bless both of you. Including Fina.
From Ottawa
This is a good lesson by Chad. Jolene gets the video just right
That trunk looks great - and is fixed for many, many years. Nice job Chad. Thanks for filming Jolene!
Trunk came out amazing
A nice usable clean trunk. 🎉
Back in the 1970s we used stop signs for trunk and floor repair. 😁
Well that is a new product for me, trunk paint. It did a fantabulous job. I'll file this technique under 'better than useful'.
Being a BIG fan of "tidy" trunks, I must admit I was a bit skeptical.... but this turned out pretty nice!
The trunk looks nice Good work Chad And Doug
Many steps to preserving repairing vintage cars and you do it well as anyone I’ve watched. Thank you for sharing this procedure with me.
My Dad use to have57 chevys a long time ago and wrenched on them all the time. I love the way yours turned out. Nice job
Great job Chad... it's only an every day driver and not a show car! Thanks for sharing Jolene...
I'm going to do my trunk in my 66 caddy and I'll send you a picture. That looks awesome. You guys are amazing!
Chad the trunk looks awesome , great job thank you for the lesson, Chad you are No. 1 , Steve
That looks realy good. Can't believe it came out like that.
Your a wiz when ya get going ! What a great change in the trunk ! You can't even tell where you worked on it ! Awesome job Chad! Again Jolene ❤and Chad 😂Thumbs-up to team Hiltz
Super job! A Master Craftsman once told me a great Craftsman knows how to make his mistakes disappear because everyone makes mistakes...
You are the Master of your trade Chad! 👍👍👍🍻
Hey Chad and Jolene, I haven't been well. This is why I haven't commented as much. However, I have watched, as I promised, each episode you have done. I finally watched you work on the Plymouth. Wow!! Making a quarter panel from nothing. Just simply perfection. But what has totally BLOWN me away was the trunk repair. WOW WOW!!!
It simply is incredible. Once a lovely carpet or rubber mat goes over that job, it will be like brand new. If it never gets covered, the trunk paint was so good at hiding everything, it looks just Amazing on its own. Just as you said Chad, hiding the work you have done. A simple 3 step process that anyone could do. Looking forward to this car being finished. It will be great seeing you both off on a Sunday cruise in it. Thanks again for showing us how to do something. Not everyone has money. Budget repairs that look a million dollars to me is priceless. Love you both. ❤
I like that ! Good to see u can make something work to accomplish a result cheaply
Thank you Chad & Jolene great camera videos Now it my turn too add that rock guard stuff to my pick-up bed let it dry completely add color to it then bed liner Since it took me 5- months, alone to weld it and back together way you taught me thanks Chad you made difference to others we can do it too.
Really like the job on the trunk but two questions, Chad. (1) Why not use the seam-sealer before you spray the initial coat of rock guard, then spray on top of that? (2) You put patch panels over pin holes in the factory trunk steel, then sealed the seams above... What will keep water from migrating through the pin holes below and rusting out the body underneath the new patch panels. How do you keep that from occurring?
Good point you have there. It will eventually happen as you have stated. The only thing left is pray for a miracle that it will not happen.
@24:29 Chad explains why he likes rock guarding first . 👨🎓
I'm pretty sure he will address the underneath of the car as well. He will not just do the trunk and say oh well it's done. No he will go over the car and do a good job.
That trunk looks awesome
Not a bad job! Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks for showing this, Chad !
Hey! Chad, i Love all of your videos, especially with that new Plymouth 1956 that you're working on right now.
It's amazing how the shape, the style and the body design of this car ressembles alot like the Chevy Bélair 1956, mainly because of the tail lights, as well as the high fins in the back. Moreover, these brand new quarter panels look absolutely stunning. You're doing a great job!
Thank you! for sharing this beautiful presentation, on the UA-cam channel and have yourself a great weekend out there in Nova Scotia, with the coming of the season of fall.
Johnny, Montreal, Canada ❤️👍
'56 Plymouth Savoy sedan has never been a really in-demand car. But they do have that wonderful '50s charm still. At a low cost. For this one to stand out - it needs a bright & cheerful 2 tone paint color change. resale-red with white would be good. With matching interior. Still would not be a big-buck car, so would need to be done on a budget, or would end up where you'd be better off just buying a finished one.
Trying to place that accent ,then I realized Trailor Park Boys! Then he confirmed with Nova Scotia. Awesome.
First class job! No doubt in my mind...😉
Great job, I used to work in a body shop doing full restos but have patched cars like this many times to use as daily drivers and they have lasted decades. In a trunk I would probably use seam sealer and then spray it with a thin coat of body deadner which is a thick spray tar they used to spray inside doors and on the floor to reduce noise. Rock guard is getting fancy 😂
The trunk loos great after this treatment. I qas with Jolene on covering up those 2 areas.
Hats of to you Chad..that was a awesome job.looks perfect..cheers from Bonavista
That’s an amazing transformation of the trunk. Very valuable video-once again. Thank you.

Brilliant work, Chad awesome 👌
rock guard looks great!!!
Looks really good Chad...another little tutorial...and the car is goin to be fun...cya tomorrow Chad and Jolene 😊
Chad…just a question….the underside of the new metal hasn’t been treated….how do you keep water from going through the pinholes and rusting the underside of the new metal?…btw…it looks good from the top!
Seam Sealer.
Sorry guy…seam sealer looks good for six months…it separates once bubbling starts between the panels…
Seams, like it worked perfectly !
Looks amazing!! Thanks for the lesson....

Trunck looks assume you can’t tell that it’s been repaired great job chad and excellent job on the camera Jolene and Doug done a grat job on stripping the old tar and stuff out of it god blessed you all.
Looks brand-new but do the back panel where Julian had you cover it with black that would look better with the truck paint back there too.
Hola mr. Bad chad and mess Jolene: if I may say that trunk just ask luking at it you can't see where the bad trunk liked and the new begins fantastic yup yup yup .. and fantastic camera wrk. Miss Jolene..
Chad says he loves rock guard and he is right. Rock guard hides a multitude of sins.
Awesome looking car. I would drive it

Less burning less future rusting for sure like your style real world restoring to drive around and look cool what it’s all about
Absolutely sick! Love it!
That 56 is feeling the love
That looks awesome your the man 👍
Wow ,what a difference on that trunk! Great video!
Looks mint ,way cool, love this car
The Trunk looks like it's never been worked on, and that is when you know you'll have a happy customer. Nice, work! Chad, I miss those days of fabrication standing back after finishing a job, looking at what been done, it gives a man quite the feeling of satisfaction!
Outstanding job, a real fine repair, great practical.for daily driver. And as usual the master made it look easy👌👌👍👍
Turned out great Chad and Jolene. Well done.
I like what he's done though, looks great.
That was really amazing!!
We are loving these videos here at my house in Missouri. I kinda needed a break from the builds. Thanks Chad and Jolene! 😎
Looks awesome nice job Chad
That turned out really well! I might have misunderstood but it sounds like you said you patched right over the rusty metal. I think i would have cut it out and seam sealed underneath as well. But overall this will be fine for what it is!
Yeah, it seems to me like this technique might create a moisture trap. Unless I'm missing something those rust holes are still underneath and will let water in between the layers. Rusty sandwich!
nice job on the trunk Chad nice camera work Jolene you forgot to show Fina LOL
Wow!! That’s amazing what a great job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That’s a awesome learning video thanks for making it it inspires me to do that to mine
i am glad to realize that these episodes are filmed live but not broadcast live in filmed order. I would /and was surprised that Chad only worked one hour a day.
They only film 1 hour a day, but actually does more welding and grinding of camera since that can get boring.
Works much more than an hour a day. He does a lot off camera that you don’t see. Like he stripped the trunk to bare metal and created patches and welded them in but did not show all that work and much much more.
i do realize that, kind of variation of sarcasm. Can you imagine a video of Chad paceing around waiting till tomorrow to film the next episode
It is amazing how you camouflaged the trunk so it looks real appealing and water proof , Love it Chad and Doug ! Don't know what will happen in the future if this car is ever set to rest as you and I also , but they'll know Chad did this wonderful job by the black plumage of smoke in the sky! lol Great job Jolene !
Nice lookin trunk.
Well done Chad, Doug.
Just like doing sealer in the bathroom around the bath tub or shower cubicle .... only l don't think l woukd use black seam sealer 😂😂😂.... its a real nice job Chad👍
Trunk looks very nice, Doug did a great job doing the grunt work and prep. Chad did a great job covering up the repairs, and Jolene as always did a wonderful job on the camera.
Love it chad, looks awesome
Good job! I just did the same on my restoration. I use rock guard for msny things (fixes leaks on metal trailer roofs) I thot I'd pass on another idea. On front floorboards if you press a sheet of aluminum foil into fresh rock guard, then do 2 or 3 more layers you get really good thermal insulation and pretty good sound deadening.
Also I just fixed a dashboard with rock guard. The stuff that is more "rubbery" than what you show on this clip. First I put paintable sealant in the cracks til level. then a layer of rockguard, sanded it and "jabbed" the dashboard with paint on a paintbrush to give a look like vinyl texture.
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME ✌️
LOOKS AMAZING ❤❤
Wow wow. Beautiful. Thanks
Thanks for the tips
