    It’s such a shame comedy variety shows are a thing of the past! This was true talent in every direction!

    • @jefferypardue7509
      @jefferypardue7509 Рік тому

      The only real variety comedy show still on is NBC's SNL and it depends on the talent of the cast members and writers. The guest stars I think use SNL as a way of self promoting their careers similar to how some country music artists whom perform on the Grand Ole Opry are promoting their albums. But on variety shows of the 20th century was based on talent and quality and they weren't rushed like sometimes you see on SNL . Variety shows back in the 20th century were live and live means mistakes might happen and you have to roll with the direction. Sometimes guest stars are only really there for their opening monologue at the beginning. And on Carol Burnett they always had time in most episodes to ask questions to the host or others whereas on SNL they don't ask questions. Plus Carol Burnett wasn't overly political even if she was playing a first lady. On SNL the audience suspects a political opener or current satire.
