I just uploaded a new video where I rank my top 10 favorite Deftones songs! Check it out on my channel and let me know your thoughts. Thank you again for watching! 🙏🏼🤘🏼
------
I rank the 7 studio albums by my favorite band, the Deftones. Granted, I think their worst album still is pretty damn good, but there are albums that are clearly better than others.

I love White Pony and Around the Fur. But there’s something about Koi No Yokan which makes it one of my favourite albums of all time!
KNY is an album that grows on me more and more each time I listen!
Adrenaline sounds like it’s playing from a McDonalds drive through speaker.
HAAHHAAHA U RITE
Yup ....and I still rock out to it lmaoooo
That’s part of its charm
XD
Yes, and it’s fantastic.
1. Self Titled
2. Around The Fur
3. White Pony
4. Diamond Eyes
5. Adrenaline
6. Koi No Yokan
7. Saturday Night Wrist
8. Gore
Self titled is by far my favourite sound that Deftones have ever done. The most soothing heavy but calm continuous flow all the way through so perfectly. Gives me the the best feels I’ve ever felt over any album I’ve ever heard. Fucking Deftones for life!
Self Titled Is My Fav As Well
Needles and Pins…….enough said. Amazing album.
CORRECT OPINION ALERT the only change i woukd make is
5. Saturday night wrist
6.adrenaline
7. koi no yokan
Diamond eyes was mixed perfectly. Definitely in my top 5 albums of all time.
Morgan Foster The song Diamond Eyes itself is a masterpiece.
The thing with the s/t record is it just didn’t feel complete or fully finished... some songs felt like they gave up on them and/or were rushed. Nonetheless seen them at the metro in Chicago for this record when they 1st came back to town and played for almost 3 hours on Mother’s Day and it was the best I’ve ever seen them live out of the 4 times I’ve caught them.- Juice
My favorite Deftones album🤘
Thank you for not putting Saturday Night Wrist at the bottom. I will never comprehend why most fans think it's their worst. The production/atmosphere is so spacey, ethereal, and lush. Chino's vocals soar over the mix better than ever have. And despite the band members being "in limbo," the album sounds very uniform to me, with only a couple tracks sounding messy. Also Koi No Yokan is my favorite, I feel it blends their artsy side with their heavy side the best.
Cynical Scorpio Honestly i don’t hate any of the Deftones albums.
@@joshshrum2764
Yeah they're a pretty consistant band
Cynical Scorpio I cannot wait for the new album!.
YES koi no yokan is definitely my favorite too
Very nice video. Big fan of Deftones here too. On my top 5 bands along with Tool, Radiohead, Nirvana...
I would just change Gore with Adrenaline.
Nuno Moço I appreciate the comment! Thanks!!
Nice video?? He’s bashing on all the badass albums and songs. This guy don’t know shit about deftones
@@adamjay2ndward Yeah because music taste and preference is about knowledge, am I right? :)
You like Deftones NuMetal edition, we get it, and that is fine. Some of us prefer the evolution. :)
Bro, Romantic Dreams is an amazing track. Deftones + 3/4 time = eargasm. The instrumental at the end of the song gives me the same feeling as the end of Rosemary. Incredible.
1. Around the Fur, the perfect album
2. White Pony
3. Saturday Night Wrist
4. Koi No Yokan
5. Diamond Eyes
6. Adrenaline
7. Self titled
8. Gore
Saturday is a weird album, some tracks are truly amazing while a few just shouldn't be on there,
I listen to Beware at least once a day
@💉Sick Boy💉 same pretty much for me. Around the Fur is the best, White Pony and adrenaline are interchangeable to me for #2 depending on my mood a particular day
Your first three are my same!
Pardon. Self titled at 7.
Wow 😳
Only "bad" song on SNW is Pink Cellphone and minus half a point for the Serj collab but Mein is still a good song regardless
That's awesome that you got that version of White Pony. I got into Deftones with Minerva and got the self-titled album first, but when I did get White Pony, probably in 2004 or so, I ended up with the white (bonus track) version that starts with Back to School, which I think was the most distributed one. When I listen to it on Spotify though, I start on Feiticeira. That's a superior opening track to Back to School.
976-Evil is one of my favorites from them lol. gives me the feels
Amen, one of the highlights on the album
Diamond Eyes the song never gets old for me. Love this band so much more than most music in general.
My Own Summer I heard at a party when it came out, and I stopped what I was doing and just stared at the stereo. I had never heard anything like it and have been a huge fan ever since.
Great review man! I agree with you on most points from the amazing songs on Koi that make up for any lack, to the throw aways at the end of DE which I too always skip. I remember being so floored with Rocket Skates cuz Chino was also healthier and was like ‘I am back with a vengeance!’ And I actually laughed out loud when you said, “I don’t think you can make a more perfect record than ATF, the problem is the Deftones did.”
I had fun watching you geek out over the deftones cause I love them so much too :-)
Deftones, along with 311, are those 2 bands from the 90s alternative movement that you go back to not because of only nostalgia but because they were actually good bands. I love watchin deftones and 311 albums ranked. Usually the ones at the bottom are the same but the top ones are all over the place. I love watchin these.
Great work. Im seeing the Deftones for my first time this summer with Gojira
Great video! Around The Fur is my favorite Deftones album. What do you think about the hidden track "Damone"? Its one of my favorites from that album.
Justin Neeley Damone is FANTASTIC - makes me miss the days of hidden tracks. Thanks for watching the video!
What do you think about Chino's side projects-Team Sleep, Palms and Crosses? I really like Palms. The other projects are good too. Chino Moreno is one of my favorite singers and Deftones is one of my favorite bands.
Thanks for making this video!
I agree with most of this list, but Self-Titled will always be my personal #1, even if it's not 100% perfect front-to-back. The songs I love on it are just so unbelievably raw and passionate, and it's sound is so distinct from the rest of their discography. It also happens to be the album that I was introduced to first, so maybe that has an effect on me as well. Deftones is my favorite band and When Girls Telephone Boys is my favorite song from my favorite album. I've never heard anything like it, and never have since.
And I hope we never do meet again!
I agree 100% mate! Best sound from Deftones ever
Damn man, I really enjoyed this video. You really know what you’re talking about! And the fact that you’re so into it was awesome. However, I do disagree with a few things, like your thoughts on Acid Hologram and 976-EVIL. Overall though, I agree with a lot of this. But here’s my list.
1. Koi No Yokan
2. Diamond Eyes
3. Saturday Night Wrist
4. White Pony
5. Self Titled
6. Gore
7. Around The Fur
8. Adrenaline
For some reason I just can’t get into Around The Fur.
Luke Alter thanks Luke! I thoroughly enjoy this band but I just CANT get into Acid Hologram and 976- EVIL ... can’t do it. KNY as your top album? That’s bold!
Also, if you’re into Sevendust, I just put out my worst to best for them.
great thoughts, for me its when and where i listened to Deftones. I listened to their selftitled album late nights in Virginia so i like that, but I listened to Koi No Yokan on the coast of Maine which i LOVE. I talked to a girl from Bulgaria who said she loves Saturday Night Wrists which lead me to Cherry waves and Beware. Opinions vary so I think its whichever album has the most you like, which with White pony i agree.
I only love Koi No Yokan even more because Deftones managed to stay consistent and mature with their sound and lyrics, thats why its up there for me!
Jay Yavid man those are some great memories. For me, listening to deformed for the first time is always an experience. I never know what to expect. Thanks for sharing!
absolutely agree with your list, and i’d probably throw is Ohms between Koi No Yokan and saturday night wrist
Same! Love Ohms!
great video, I also love the Deftones, easily one of my fav bands, I love Adrenaline
Adrenaline one of my favs!!
Good video bud, I love This band 🤘
I was going to be mad about Self titled at 6, but after your explanation, I do agree with you, however, I might place it 1 or 2 places higher
Oh, and you’re spot on with Cherry Waves! Absolutely beautiful
Self titled is almost TOO moody for me. The more I hear it the more I think it’s not one of their best. But I think it’s awesome how so many in the community love it 🤘🏼
Hey man great video probably the best Deftones ranking video in this platform! Here's my ranking of their records from worst to best:
Adrenaline
Deftones
Diamond Eyes
Gore
White Pony
Saturday Night Wrist
Around the Fur
Koi No Yokan
Hey everyone! Thank you for the support and comments - keep them coming!
If you haven’t seen it yet, I put out a video where I rank all of Sevendust’s albums and also just reviewed the latest Slipknot track.
Thanks again for the support guys! Look forward to more videos coming soon 🤘🏼
I too believe that Prince is a sequel to Rx Queen. I've been thinking that for years. Great video
Dylan Deal thanks! Structurally, both songs are the same. “What Happened to You?” also sounds similar to “RX Queen”
Love your profile pic!
@@rilenixx back at ya XD
Deathblow and Lucky You are my two favorites from the self titled
More power to you, my friend. I re-listened to self-titled the other day and I can't with those 2 songs.
Great video man! I'd rank them
1. White Pony - An absolute classic, a 10/10, and the best metal album of all time imo.
2. Saturday Night Wrist - The best produced Deftones album. Great experimentation on this album too. Another one of my favourite albums of all time.
3. Around The Fur - 10 straight bangers. Just awesome songs that are catchy but punchy too. The weird time signatures are just another level of their songwriting which would be mastered on White Pony.
4. Koi No Yokan - amazing atmosphere on this album. I'm a huge shoegaze fan so this album is right up my alley.
5. Deftones - Their most underrated album that is so heavy and dark. The songwriting is a little less interesting but the vibe of the album is amazing. Also Hexagram is their best song.
6. Diamond Eyes - The most overrated album imo but it has great highlights especially Beauty School. The production is just really blown out and bland. Plus is has a few filler songs.
7. Adrenaline - Pretty dated and the songwriting is really one dimensional compared to Around The Fur. Plus the lyrics are kinda edgy and silly.
8. Gore - Garbage album. Doomed User is the only good song on it. The production and mixing on here is a trainwreck. They need a come back from this album ASAP.
sammo I like your list! To have Diamond Eyes so low though....ahhh that hurts. Thanks for the comment!!
Amir Khostavan thanks man! Awesome video btw and I know it's a random question but do you know any bands similar to Deftones that I might like? I've never found any band that scratches that itch like Deftones do!
Great video man. But I love deathblow! Damn dude I love the koi songs you don’t care for too.
thank you, and that's awesome! Deftones has something for everyone
Awesome video. I love your passion for Deftones lol they're one of my favorites too, right next to Opeth! I have the same top three records as you. ATF is #1 without a doubt for me though. It was the album that got me into Deftones, it doesn't have a single song I don't absolutely love, and plus it was my first vinyl I ever bought (and listened the shit out of) :) Around the fur will forever be one of my favorite albums by any band ever. 10/10.
For me it's ATF, WP, DE, Adrenaline, Gore, KNY, Self titled, SNW
Parker Crook hell yeah dude! Around the fur just gets better with each listen
I'm very happy to hear some love directed towards Saturday Night Wrist. Why so much hate for this record I'll never understand. Sure I saw them live during this albums tour.
But Beware is an amazing track. Combats riff is most def one of the best they've produced. Cherry Waves and Xerces made me cry. At the show I went to Rats!Rats!Rats! was the opener and I was like WHOOOOAAAA. Plus I met Chino and Steph randomly after the show which was amazing. I told Chino to never stop making music, he will always have my support. That was December of 06 and they are still going.
Anyways, yea. Wrist is great!
Matt Krause SNW is epic. No idea why it gets the hate it does, but there’s some fantastic songs on there
Cool ranking man!! I have quite a few differing opinions from you but I do love all of these albums quiiiiteeee a bit and I see where you’re coming from on these!
8. Adrenaline
7. Saturday Night Wrist
6. Gore
5. Around the Fur
4. Self-titled
3. Diamond Eyes
2. White Pony
1. Koi No Yokan
really well done review! you're good at this shit
thank you!
here‘s mine (as a hardcore fan for almost 20 years now):
8. Gore
7. Adrenaline
6. Around the fur
5. Self-titled
4. Saturday night wrist
3. Diamond eyes
2. Koi no yokan
1. white pony
and i love how his list only really differs significantly when it comes to around the fur...
KingdomOfAnElephant around the fur BEFORE self-titled?!? 🤯 - awesome list man. Thank you for watching!!
Well what type of list we making. ?? List from heavy to emo?
KingdomOfAnElephant Yeah White Pony kicks ass even though i love Around The Fur, as well so definitely a toss up for me as well.
I made a playlist of all of their songs and just play it on shuffle. I still think I would put Around the Fur at number one. However, I enjoyed your list.
Finally some defending for SNW! I love that album so much, it gets too much hate.
You deserve so many more subs!!
Jude Odom thanks! Check out the other videos as well if you can
Can't wait to hear Ohms!
My TOP album list with its three TOP songs in each one:
1 WHITE PONY
(Change, Passenger & RX Queen)
2 KOI NO YOKAN
(Tempest, Rosemary & Romantic Dreams)
3 AROUND THE FUR
(Be Quiet And Drive, My Own Summer & MX)
4 DIAMOND EYES
(Diamond Eyes, You’ve Seen The Butcher & Rocket Skates)
5 OHMS
(Genesis, Ohms & Headless)
6 SATURDAY NIGHT WRIST
(Hole In The Earth, Cherry Waves & Xerces)
7 DEFTONES

8 ADRENALINE
(Bored, 7 Words & Birthmark)
9 GORE
(Prayers/Triangles, Phantom Bride & Hearts/Wires)
Very good video. We have a similar opinion on the most picks here.
Although I have to disagree with you when it comes to "Dai The Flu"
It's one of my all time favourite Deftones songs lol
Dai the Flu is badass! I grew to love it
@@arkoverloadpodcast Well
Then it's all good :)
For me, its (from worst to best): Ohms, Adrenaline, Around the Fur, Gore, Koi no Yokan, White Pony, Diamond Eyes, Saturday Night Wrist, Deftones (self-titled).
Ohms as the WORST?! I can't vibe with that man. But I appreciate the list!
Good list, my favorite album would either be Self Titled or White Pony
Danny G Self-titled is great, I just think Chino’s performance is much better in white pony
I almost have the same top 4, only change Koi No Yokan with Saturday...
What you said about Gore happened to me with Ohms, it sounded so good at first, now it's near the bottom on my list. It's just the most basic and predictable version of Deftones.
I really love the Team Sleep album from 2005 also.
Great video. Love seeing someone with the same passion for the band as me. When Gore first came out, I was so disappointed. But this is the album that grew on me most over time. Phantom Bride? C'mon. Epic. But it still only moved up one spot on my list though:
1. White Pony
2. Diamond Eyes
3. Koi No Yokan
4. Around the Fur
5. Saturday Night Wrist
6. Ohms
7. Deftones
8. Gore
9. Adrenaline
Gore has grown me as well since I made this video!
Imo:
1) White Pony (Easily their best. This is Deftones's masterpiece. Everything abt it is great. Only record where I love absolutely every single track.)
2) Saturday Night Wrist (Can't believe how many people ignore this album. It's easily their best excluding WP. This is how I wish they sounded today, blending elements of shoegaze and art rock in their usual metal sound. People's least favorite is one my favorites. lol.)
3) Around the fur (great record. Don't really have bad things to say about it.)
4) Koi no Yokan (really digged this one. Grew on me a whole lot)
5) Deftones (Some of my favorite songs are on this one. Hexagram, Bloody cape, Minerva are amazing. Just wish the production was a bit better.)
6) Diamond Eyes (not a big fan of this record unlike most people. Idk why)
7) Gore (really don't like the production. Don't care for almost any of the songs unfortunately)
8) Adrenaline (really don't care abt it honestly)
Depression Cherry honestly, I can’t disagree with your list. Except for Diamond Eyes... that album is amazing. But after I released this video, I realized I like Saturday Night Wrist a whole lot more than I thought I did. In fact, I think I like it more then KNY. If I could edit the video again, I’d flip those two.
@@arkoverloadpodcast That's awesome! Both are great in the end! Great video btw 😀👍🏼👍🏼
Depression Cherry thanks! I also made a video ranking all of Sevendust’s records - if you’re interested, please check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks!
@@arkoverloadpodcast Will check it out!! 😀
Depression Cherry bruh Saturday night wrist is one of my favorite albums of all time period. Glad to see other people giving it more love.
Personally, I would put White Pony in the top ten albums ever, so no worries about it being top Deftones album.
I like that's the best and most universal way to describe Deftones is "the feels". Yeah, can relate.
My two cents:
8) "Gore". Similarly was excited to hear a new Deftones record, was sorta hesitant after "Prayers/Triangles" (bit watered down, bit straightfowrard) and then excited again after "Doomed User" (a combo of elements that shouldn't work but absolutely does), and ultimately lost focus in the process of listening to the full thing. Melodies and harmonies on a lot of tracks seem to be on autopilot. "Hearts/Wires" is a great song but even that one seems to be pulling on their own older hits.
7) "Adrenaline". Humble beginnings as they are, the album has the misfortune of being part of a mostly stellar catalogue and it feels a bit alien now, too rough and simplistic for its length. You can hear both the raw talent and at the same time the work that is yet to be done. Maybe if I heard it in isolation it would've left a different impression. Of course, "Engine no.9", "Bored", "Root" all rip to this day.
6) "Koi No Yokan". Trends that became apparent on "Gore" first surfaced here, some songs like "Graphic Nature" and "Gauze" feel like treaded water, "Romantic Dreams" is a bit scatterbrained and aimless, "Rosemary" has a great intro, a monster bridge but the actual chorus seems arbitrary and the outro is basically "Diamond Eyes" again but less propulsive. "Tempest" and "Leathers" are definete triumphs.
5) Self-titled. Yeah, a definite victim of "following the huge success" syndrome, a general feeling of meandering permeates certain cuts, but when your opening is "Hexagram" (this is what a summer sunset will always sound like to me) and it's followed up by "Needles and Pins", you definetely got something right. Also I think they got comfortable with being really slow and dreamy on "Minerva" and "Death Blow" which played a big part in the future.
4) "Saturday Night Wrist". Uneven and of a tumultuous origin this record however contains some of Deftones' peak songwriting - "Beware", "Cherry Waves", "Hole In The Earth", "Kimdracula" are achingly beautiful. The heavier cuts are lacking in my opinion but the melodic stuff is some of their best.
3) "Around The Fur". An absolute leap of progress after the debut, two genious-level cuts that are now live staples, a much stronger grasp on atmosphere (namely, including seductiveness into angst) and the most corrosive and violent of Chino's performances on "Lotion" and "Rickets". But the art of the slower, mellower song was yet to be perfected.
2) "Diamond Eyes". A comeback to be taught in schools. Every hook lands, every melody glues to the brain, the full spectrum of emotion on display, risks that pay off (metal Rnb-blues on "You've Seen The Butcher", alternative rock with new-wave flavours on "Beauty School"), the record comes out swinging from the gargantuan title track (which is just as majestic as it is vicious) and takes you on a ride all the way down to the hazy lands of "This Place Is Death".
1) "White Pony". Duh.
Well said! I couldn't agree more.
Disagree but great list !
Me and girlfriend had tickets to Deftones in Toronto this month and it got pushed to next year, chino is my childhood hero I’m gutted :(
I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait!
Well it will be time to update this list when the 9th album releases soon. But my list at the moment before it comes out would be.
1. White Pony.
2. Around The Fur.
3. Saturday Night Wrist.
4. Adrenaline.
5. Koi No Yokan.
6. Self Tittled.
7. Diamond Eyes.
8. Gore.
But i seriously don’t outright despise, or hate any of there albums, but i just like there stuff when Chi was around, and living.
Awesome video bro ...butttt ...self titled for me is number 3 ..bloody cape , battle axe , and hexagram ... Are probably melodically some of the most top tier tracks they've ever produced .... But either way thats my opinion lol. ..
1. White pony
2. Around the fur
3. Self titled
4. Diamond eyes
5. Saturday
6. Koi
7. Adrenaline
8. Gore
I managed to stumble across this video again, and realized that the ranking I left has changed quite a bit! So here's how I would rank them now:
8. Gore (Light 6/10)
7. Deftones (7/10) completely agree that Lucky You shouldn't be on the album
6. Adrenaline (7/10)
5. Koi no Yokan (8/10)
4. Saturday Night Wrist (8/10)
3. Diamond Eyes (10/10)
2. Around the Fur (10/10)
1. White Pony (10/10)
And yes, think all 3 of those are perfect albums! Love everything about them. Can't wait for the next album, sounds pretty great from that 10 second clip they teased recently!
Woah woah woah woah. Adrenaline the second worst?!?!?! My ranking:
(WORST) Gore -> Saturday Night Wrist -> Diamond Eyes -> Koi no Yokan -> Ohms -> Deftones -> Adrenaline -> White Pony -> Around the Fur (BEST)
1. White Pony (10/10)
2. Around the Fur (10/10)
3. Saturday Night Wrist (9/10)
4. Diamond Eyes (9/10)
5. Koi no Yokan (9/10)
6. Deftones (8/10)
7. Adrenaline (8/10)
8. Gore (7/10)
Rye Polojack yup! Just switch SNW with Diamond Eyes and I completely agree. As I was editing this video, I realized I like SNW slightly more than KNY - so good!
@@arkoverloadpodcast yeah I can definitely see why you would rank Diamond Eyes over SNW because it's such a killer record. I agreed with your list almost 100%, but SNW just inches Diamond Eyes out for me. Great video :)
1.) Saturday Night Wrist
2.) Koi No Yokan
3.) White Pony
4.) Deftones
5.) Around the Fur
6.) Diamond Eyes
7.) Ohms
8.) Adrenaline
9.) Gore
We have the exact same opinions about deftones. Never thought I'd say that
🤘🏼
good video
1. Around the Fur
2. White Pony (I got the red one ;)
3. Self-Titled
4. Koi no Yokan
5. Diamond Eyes
6. Adrenaline
7. Saturday Night Wrist
8. Gore
HAHAHA ADRENALINE AS THE SECOND WORST ? lols
1. Around the Fur
2. White Pony
3. Adrenaline
imo
1-White Pony** (uhfuckinDUH! if you're a fan from before this album came out and still fuck with Deftones hard, this has to be your #1)**
2-Diamond Eyes **(I fucking love this album. It's my go-to, will listen to anytime, any place album)**
3-Around the Fur **(the album that got me hooked on deftones)**
4-Saturday Night Wrist **(Beware and Cherry Waves are fucking beautiful)**
5- Ohms**( it's beyond rare for bands that have been around as long as Deftones, to still drop albums half as good as this album is)**
6-Self Titled ** (grew on me over the years)**
7-Adrenaline **(the fact that it's #6 on my list just proves their the best band of all time)**
8-Koi
9- Gore **(I tried really hard to get this album but just never did)**
.... I think we're Deftones soulmates amigo. Hell yes.
01 Diamond Eyes (Songs like sextape, beauty school, this place is death, 976-evil are what made this album have a perfect balance - and unexpected for the better - between agression and heart. It worked for me as a truly deftones rebirth, when many thought they were done!)
02 Koi No Yokan (...And indeed they were reborn! Man! what a beautifull atmospheric record +Perfect cover!)
03 White Pony (What can I say?)
04 Around the Fur (First time I heard about DEFTONES. and this was deftones at their most aggressive vein - My Own Summer and Be Quiet and Drive are classics - but a little too Nu-Metal for me. Still, it is an important album in the band's career.)
05 Gore (Despite the production and mixing issues, this is a record that make me float everytime I put on my headphones. I love when Prayers/ Triangles shift into Acid Hologram -it gives me the chills! - and Geometric Headdress, Hearts /Wires, LMIRL...only tracks I don't like: Doomed user and Xenon.
06 S-T( I probably should give another spin on this record I just don't have good memories about it...probably not the album´s fault)
07 Adrenaline (Birthmark is my favorite)
08 Saturday Night Wrist (I remember buying this album without any expectations and really enjoying two songs on it and hating others like: Rats rats rats, Rapture...meh. Hole in the earth and Cherry waves are the best tracks. Reverie, Kimdracula, Xerces, Beware so and so.. But as a whole this album doesn't work. Also Chino hates it. )
I didn't expect to love the "2nd life" of this band more, but I do. I do think they grew stronger has a band and the atmospherics and songwritting process just seemed to improve over the years.
I just back to back the discography this weekend in anticipation and I realised how solid Saturday night wrists and Koi no yokan. So I think you’re a little off here is the list worst to best
-Deftones
-adrenaline
-Saturday night wrists
-gore
-koi no yoken
-diamond eyes
-around the fur
-white pony
My personal list.
1. Around the fur
2. White pony
3. Adrenaline
4. Koi no yokan
5. Diamond eyes
6. Saturday night wrist
7. Gore
8. Self titled
Number 1 and 2 really are a toss up.
Andrew DeSumma White Pony, is my top pick then then 2nd place is Around The Fur, and Saturday Night Wrist, then 3rd place is Adrenaline. So i am pretty similar to your list just White Pony, above Around The Fur.
100% agree. White Pony is flawless. Passenger is also one of my all time favorite songs and I hate TOOL. Ironic huh?
Yeah I don't think you need to be a Tool fan to know that the chorus to Passenger is EPIC
I could never rank Around The Fur and White Pony ahead of Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. White Pony was the gateway to Deftones realizing their POTENTIAL. POTENTIAL but by far not their best work. Also what can't be denied is the effect Nick Raskulinecs had on their sound. Koi and Diamond Eyes are a tie for top spot, White Pony close second for opening the door, SNW close third and hugely underrated and Around The Fur for nostalgia and watching Deftones as kids starting figuring things out. The atmospherics and songwriting confidence displayed on what I call the BIG 3 (SNW, Koi, Diamond) are what separates Deftones from all of their peers. Every time I listen to White Pony now I remember how it all started but that album now pales in comparison to the others. At that time, Deftones didn't have the vision and creative skill to create tracks like Poltergeist, Beauty School, Hole In The Earth, Sextape, Romantic Dreams, Leathers, Kimdracula, Rosemary and on and on and on. This was their sweet spot. They started to peak after self titled. This is the work that made them legends and set them apart from all others unlike tracks like Change, My Own Summer, Be Quiet And Drive etc. These are candy tunes compared to future masterpieces. White Pony is a crucial album in the band's development and a bonafide classic and reference point in their careers but continually overrated IMO compared to their future work.
Great video. Thanks for the work you put into this.
My God.... Deftones are so fucking incredible.
My top 3 to this day :
1. White Pony
2. Around the fur
3. Ohms
(You've don't mentionned Knife Prty on White Pony, wich is one of their Best songs)
Great video mate! I can really tell how passionate you are about Deftones. Maybe I may disagree with the songs on S/T and ATF you dislike, considering Deathblow and Dai the Flu are songs I absolutely enjoy, but the list is right on point. Agree completely that the few epic tracks on KNY take the whole album to another level.
Here's my list below.
8. Adrenaline
7. Gore (I'm with you on the production for this album. It was complete shit compared to the pristine, layered production of Rasculinecz or the muddy, murky flourishes of Terry Date)
6. Saturday Night Wrist (The transition from Beware to Cherry Waves is probably my favourite transition of all time)
5. Deftones (When girls telephone boys is an absolute banger of a track and probably features Chino at his most poetic, violent and visceral)
4. Around the fur (Controversial choice for me too :D. Frankly I absolutely adore this album and some of its tracks are their best ever in my opinion. My first record was White Pony, so ATF was something that took me awhile to appreciate as something different from the Deftones I fell in love with)
3. Diamond Eyes (The first 4 tracks on this album completely blew me away. I went from the monstrous, stormy sound of Royal's outro to the razor sharp, cutting intro to CMND/CTRL. That really did it for me. The production on this album was top notch, and was what I thought to be their best. Until I heard Koi No Yokan. Without a doubt, their most consistent album from start to finish)
2. Koi No Yokan (This is Deftones attaining epic status. Tracks like Entombed, Leathers and the trifecta of Tempest, Gauze and Rosemary really took me to another place. Loved how ethereal it was. Definitely my favourite Deftones album cover, and probably one of my all time favourites. Very ambiguous and open to interpretation. I think it fits really well with the lyrical and musical material on this album too, which gave Deftones more of a prog sensibility)
1. White Pony (I am yet to find an album in Deftones' discography which is as varied as White Pony - SNW comes a close second. It has this lovely, lush, moody, industrial vibe which made them sound radically different from the 40-odd nu metal bands which sprung up in the late 90s, including themselves. It really cemented them as an experimental band which pushed the envelope and tried new sounds with every album, and kind of is the reason Deftones are still out there and making great music to this day. From the opening track, which was so random and structurally out of the box, to Knife Prty's wailing interlude, to probably the best vocal collaboration of all time AKA Passenger)
Dragon's Den duuuuuuude I love your list! Absolutely agree with all your reasoning as well. Diamond Eyes and KNY being so damn good is part of the reason why Gore doesn’t work for me. I know they’re capable of so much more. Rock on 🤘🏼
@@arkoverloadpodcast Yeah, Gore was kind of an expectation subversion. I too had high expectations from it after the 4 year long wait. I liked parts of the album, but on the whole it's a bit meh. Structurally not very sound and all over the place, not in a good way. I could actually appreciate SNW's jarring tonal shifts, because every track had the band trying something new.
976 evil grew on me a ton
Ditto. Fantastic verse and overall groove
I thought you did a really good job with your list. Very thoughtful and to that i give my respect. My rankings would diff slightly with yours but all in all i cant argue alot of your selections. I do agree with Gore being my least favorite and therefore their least interesting record. Its not a bad record lets get that straight, Deftones dont make bad records :)
Grave Gifters thank you for watching! Gore had its moments but as an overall record, it’s my least favorite.
my own summer is awesome
Add the "B-sides and rarities." That was a HUGE disappointment.. 'Definitely deserves the title name, anyone else agree? As for your list, it's very accurate. Deftones are a great band, the description of White Pony is highly accurate, great review.
976-EVIL and this place is death are both amazing to me and they really add to diamond eyes, i couldnt skip them if i wanted
grace matherne I totally get it! I actually went back and listened to diamond eyes in full a few times and have since changed my mind on 976-evil, but this place is death is still ehhh to me (don’t hate me) :) Thank you for watching the video!!
Amir Khostavan I agree with you on This Place is Death. It’s just alright for them. 976-Evil I loved though. I really dug the spacey, psychedelic feel of that track. But to follow it with TPiD was not a prime choice.
Opcr1s1s i agree with you on 976-evil, but what do you mean this place is death isnt a good track after? they flow into each other so seamlessly
grace matherne It just didn’t feel as polished as the rest of the album.

Don’t hate me for putting white pony so low. It’s just not my album
SELF-TITLED as number 1?!? WOW! That's awesome. Its an album that has aged really well
Yup. I love how heavy that album is. I also think frank is really good in this album too. In a lot of the songs you can easily hear him unlike some other albums.
Totally agree brother! This album for me too has by far the best sound. Its puts me in a trance
1. Koi No Yokan
2. Diamond Eyes
3. Deftones
4. Saturday Night Wrist
5. Around The Fur

If ever a band had a tough catalog to rank The Deftones would be it.
Just Deftones, not The Deftones m8

Icewing 10 hell yes. Although I have to say the KNY is not as exciting to me as I once thought. But Diamond Eyes? ALL DAY SON!
@@arkoverloadpodcast Diamond Eyes was so good. It might be my favorite album of the 2010s.
A time ago,I used to like their heavy albums.
Now I like the melodic ones.
Here is my list:
1.Diamond Eyes
2.Koi No Yokan
3.White Pony
4.Deftones
5.Gore
6.Adrenaline (energetic and nostalgic)
7.Saturday Night Wrist (there are a lot of great songs, but there are a lot of filler songs too)
8.Around The Fur (used to like this album, but for me now, this is the weakest)
1White pony.. 2self titled.. 3around the fur.. But 2 and 3 could be swapped and it would be the same..4 diamond eyes..5 Adrenalin..6 Saturday night wrist.. and the rest is in order to what they put out starting in 2012 with koi no kon getting a little less interesting each time..
Where does OHMS fall?
Somewhere in-between KNY and Diamond Eyes
You explained yourself super well with a lot of enthusiasm. I can tell you really love this band. Even though I didn't agree with a single spot on your ranking, I think this video is great.
Edit: Oh yeah, here's my list
8. Koi No Yokan
7. White Pony (I know, I'm sorry)
6. Gore
5. Diamond Eyes
4. Adrenaline
3. Around The Fur
2. Self-Titled
1. Saturday Night Wrist
your comment made me laugh in a good way. Glad you like the video! But Gore OVER White Pony?!?
@@arkoverloadpodcast I really like the individual songs for the most part, but the flow is all off to me. Going from Rx Queen to Street Carp to Teenager is just jarring. Plus, I don't like Change at all. To me it's the most bland song they've ever made. Gore is very cohesive, and as someone who really enjoys artsy proggy metal it's something that really appeals to me. I like every single song on it quite a lot, and if it weren't for the awful production I would rank it higher.
This is the weirdest ranking I've ever seen haha your two favorites are my two least favorites
How is KNY last... like I can’t even imagine
SNW all the way for me
Today, I´d say:
1. Self Titled
2. Diamond Eyes
3. White Pony
4. Around the Fur
5. SNW
6. Koi No Yokan
7. Ohms
8. Adrenaline
9. Rare/bsides
Interesting choices I think gore should get more love tho I think it's a pretty underrated album
