Remember an Argentine Dictator, known for killing his own people, sent a force to peaceful islands, locked the inhabitants up and laid 85000 mines. Now there are places the islanders cannot go. The reason he did this goes back 200 years. They say Spain gave it to them, how did Spain get the right to give away land that did not belong to them. That is the act of a bully and bullies should resisted.
If Argentina wants the islands they should win the islanders over, not force them into a hopeless position.

      Good thinking
And it did happen from 1971 to 1974 while Britain had hostile clashes with Ireland, you know
Argentina built an airport in East Falkland, a petrol storage plant YPF, a gas distribution plant Gas del Estado, established weekly flights Buenos Aires - East Falkland
LADE, sent bilingual ladies to East Falkland to teach and participated in the 1974 regatta d Blanc off the Falklands coast
So after all that investment, Argentina it felt like the girl who is showered with gifts she smiles...that means she will get in bed, you see?
As far as old history, you should positively know that Britain got there first in 1765 but in 1774 they all left by instructions from London to go to North America to resist the American revolution for Independence
They fought 1774 to 1776 and the Battle of Saratoga sealed the deal with the British surrender. 49 years later UK govt recalled the portion of ground way down in the south Atlantic... But Argentina found it in 1823 uninhabited and they settled there peacefully and successfully until 1832. Imagine this: if you get a lady in bed and then you leave town no call no show no letter... Would you expect her to remain alone waiting faiyhfully for you or would it be proper for her to get in the sack with another and enjoy sex with that one? Half century passed since the time GB had left the Falklands until they returned clashing with Argentina's settlement down there. Be aware that the UK always liked Argentina and tried to conquer the land 1806 which they did for 2 months, 1807 failed and 1845 failed again so GB remained a source of culture and business which took very strong roots in Argentina to this day.
      Bottom line is
Both nations have valid claims and neither party deserves the whole region
The proper way to settle this mess once and for all is
      Plan SRP2018
      East Falkland for Britain
      West Falkland for Argentina
      St Charles strait International line

I still can't understand the argentinians' obsessive and silly claim on the Falkland Islands. I have been following this senseless dispute for many years, in fact since the war in 1982. Though I am an ecuadorian born citizen, living in Guayaquil, I have always supported the Falklanders' right to self determination. They are british, their culture is british, and they want to remain british. I will always endorse what I feel is right and fair. And this is exactly what this issue is.

Argentina has the same mindset as European settlers from 300 years ago, viewing the islands as property and ignoring the wishes of the inhabitants.
What I find odd are people claiming to be left wing, who believe that the islands should be handed over to Argentina while innocent inhabitants are expelled.

    • @franciscomartinez2575

Ignoring the wishes of the inhabitants?? How were the wishes of argentinian inhabitants in 1833 taken into account when the UK invaded? People living today in the islands are descendents from invaders.
It's funny that you think that Argentina has an imperialist mindset, but you find it totally normal that a queen (A QUEEN in the 21st century) on the north hemisphere rules over islands on the other side of the globe. If there's a country that hasn't changed it's mindset ever, that's the UK. Since 1833 until 1982 (where the islands were invaded by a non-democratic military government), the Argentina always claimed PEACEFULLY for the islands. That's how different we are.

@@anthonythatcherchurchilled285 The islands were not British, and you know it. The UK left the islands for more than 50 years (a period of time in wich there were several spanish governors) after Nootka conventions (before thar there was a dispute between the UK and Spain). For more than 50 years the UK forgot about the islands, until 1833 when they took advantage of the poor defenses of the islans (that had been attacked by an American fleet) and ivande the islands. Even when civilians were allowed to stay, the fact of expelling the Argentine authorities makes this an occupation by force (just like the Argentinian invasion in 1982, when no civilians were harmed). The British authorities always knew they had no right over the islands, that's why they avoided discussing with Argentina, and years later started talking about the self-determination rights of the islanders, wich in this case makes no sense (this said by the UN) as they are an implanted population. Of course the islanders must be respected, but this is a conflict between the UK and Argentina.

The Islanders have made it very clear where their loyalties lie and that the islands remain British and they must be allowed to continue their way of life without any threat or interference from a foreign country again. As an Brazilian I feel great sense of friendship to the Argentinian. They are nice people, I have been there several times. Their campaign "las Malvinas son argentinas" it is a very known cause in South America and more or less have the support of Brazilians. In my case, they do not have this support, this very video shows why: it is the people of these islands who decided to keep themselves British. Period.
To whoever argentinian who reads this I also would like them to understand this: over 150 years ago, Uruguay was Brazilian territory, there was a war and we lost that territory. You, argentinians will not see any printed money or coins, streets, squares or monuments named "The Uruguay is Brazilian". I hope you get off the feeling of loosers and overcome this nonsense, so you can move on and focus on your future. Argentina has several problems regarding inflation, external debt, corruption and this winter, HALF of the population goes on the trash to look for food. Weird things happen in Argentina. They consider Falklands, Uruguai, Paraguai, Chile and Bolivia as part of they territory. I assume they probably consider parts of Brazil as theirs as well, who knows. There are a lot of populism going on in there...

Argentina has no claim to the Falklands - They became a British territory after we took them back in 1833, and Argentina didn't actually exist as an independtant country from Spanish rule until around 1853.
End story - have a vote by the islanders that ends this once and for all.

    2. Britain hasn't been colonial for over 50 years, what with the start of the decolonisation in 1947.
    3. Well Hong Kong's fate was predecided with the 99-year lease, so unfortunately the Hong Kongers weren't granted self-determination, because that wasn't part of the agreement. I mean it wouldn't of been very good to break the agreement with Red China - especially during the cold war.

The official language of the islands is English. The Falklands English vernacular has a fair amount of borrowed Spanish words (often modified or corrupted); they are particularly numerous, indeed dominant in the local horse-related terminology. For instance, the Islanders use ‘alizan’, ‘colorao’, ‘negro’, ‘blanco’, ‘gotiao’, ‘picasso’, ‘sarco’, ‘rabincana’ etc. for certain horse colours and looks, or ‘bosal’, ‘cabresta’, ‘bastos’, ‘cinch’, ‘conjinilla’, ‘meletas’, ‘tientas’, ‘manares’ etc. for various items of horse gear.
