- Well actually it is more like 14 months, but I'm closing in on 6000km on it and the last year has been around 10000km total. Mostly I love it, I'm just still unconvinced by the brakes. The question is do I do something about the brakes, or look to sell it and get something else? Truth be told this is a versatile, comfortable, and capable bike I use most days for commuting, adventures, audax rides, and cyclocross. So I'm asking myself whether this is a bike to keep and upgrade, or sell and move on.
Really enjoyed this! I bought the bottom level Rove in January and I have been loving it, well, once I made a few changes. I stripped off the entire drive train and shifters and installed a sensah srx pro 1x11 group set. 9-50 tooth cassette with a Sram Avid 38 tooth front. Now I can climb anything. I threw that Sora crap in the bin, wouldn't give that to my worst enemy. Your right about the brakes. Definitely the weak link on this bike. I'm still deciding what to replace them with. Very interested in the Growtac Equal disc brake which just hit the market. The dropper post was a good idea although I haven't got one yet because I'm keeping my rides civil until I get the brakes sorted. Good luck to you on your future rides.
Thanks for the comment. As to jerking rides civil? I prefer incivility 😝
Great review- have the same feeling about the brakes, but since it's my everyday commuter/riding around w/the family bike, it wasn't a big sacrifice.
Upgraded the brakes on my 2020 ST to Juin GT cable actuated hydros, and the bike is damn near perfect.
Compressionless brake housing is supposed to significantly improve the performance of mechanical disc brakes- less expensive than replacing the whole system- may be worth a try
Hi Mark, I think I need to hear a bit more about that last shot of you in hospital.
Loved the bike, what tires you may recommend as all around riding for the rove
Tyre choice is really dependent on where you live and the surfaces you ride on. I ended up having some Kenda Flint Ridge for commuting, gravel and cycle pathways. For cyclocross and any ride that was going to include a significant amount of mud I swapped to some Continental Mud Kings. Hope that helps
If you sell it ... Take up reading. Less chance for injury 😜
Paper cuts can be life threatening…
Is is fast enough? I mean - is it capable to be used in competition? I need fast gravel bike, witch can be used as a bikepacking bike as well. Do you think steel frame is better the aluminium version?
That is a great question and I'm not a racer so can't really advise sorry. I certainly didn't think it was slow, and it is great for adventures 👌🏼
Do you recommend 700c tired on Kona Rove St. I now have 650b but it feels a bit small...
Personally I think it depends on what surfaces you're riding. I got some 700c wheels for commuting and audax riding. The 650b were when there was more rough offroad.
Does the dropper post have internal routing ? Thanks
Nope, external as are all cables.
@@FutureMark809 darn. Thanks Mark. Only comparable bike I can find with internal dropper routing is the AllCity Professional. Dropper is a must for me. Cheers
