Nice little set up for someone who doesn't want to go to the trouble. I like the simplicity and I like that it is lightweight. Nicely finished plywood is not cheap and is not even easy to find...at least not at the two big box stores near my home. This is a way to have everything organized and in its place and hit the road quickly.
my dad did this to a ford econoline van back in the 60's. we loved road trips and camping with it. this video brought back some good memories and makes me want to do something similar
This is great! Just what I was looking for. After going through youtube videos at all of the fancy RVs, I decided that I wanted a less complicated, less expensive alternative. Something to sleep in, boondock, and explore the southwest. I do not want to spend my time with solar panels, dual batteries, gray and black and white water, multiple switches to deal with, let alone leveling. I just want to camp, and KISS (keep it simple...). Yet, all that I could find were the Hymers, Sprintervans, etc. The big thing here is that even a non-mechanical person like me can put this together without a lot of expensive tools and cutting and measuring. Wayfarer did a great job. Forget the naysayers, they will never be satisfied, and they really miss the purpose of this setup...simplicity! Now off to the Wayfarer site for more details.
Ready to go with little assembly... great for those who don’t have work shop or tools. Plus you can break it down to do work nice. Camper van at it’s simplest. Brilliant!
This is becoming more and more of a popular idea. I have a friend that is a motorsports photographer. He just put together a Ford Transit Connect in similar fashion to serve as his home away from home. He travels to up to 5 races each week so it won't take him long to recoup the cost verses hotel stays. What they have here is a good idea, but they could do some things to dress it up and make it look a little more professionally built. The former cabinetmaker in me screams when I see unfinished plywood edges. I hope they make enough to invest in an edge bander fairly soon. Other than that, it isn't a bad deal and it looks very functional.
This is an awesome idea and an excellent design for quick easy installation. This is on my bucket list now! Two suggestions, thicker cushions for us big folk and maybe an apron that stretches across the two open back doors providing shelter for your cooking? Same magnet attachment would work fine for most things.....and provide a mini-shade canopy. Love it, thank you.
This setup is perfect for a couple trying to see the country on a budget while sticking to the paved roads or maintained gravel roads. Good MPG's of the small Ram ProMaster or Ford Transit Connect. I wouldn't call it a camper though. More of a sleeper to stay the night between destinations.
This was very interesting. I've had several people tell me about Wayfarer since I have a ProMaster City that I built out myself. I like a lot of the features they have come up with. Thanks TFL! 👍🏽
Great video, and we love ours! looked at Ford transits too, but the Dodge had more room and then we found this easy conversion kit and we were sold. Glad we got the pro master too as it drives like a dream to our events.
It's a great idea. If I knew about it 4 months ago, I'd be driving a Promaster City instead of the Ford Transit Connect that I bought and am doing the same thing to on my own. I had to get the SWB Connect to fit in my garage. My advice is to get something longer than I did, which the PCity is.. FTC is a bit cramped and well under a standard 72" bed for sleeping.
$400!!! you are obviously ignoring floor and wall panels and just looking at the boxes. If you don't like it, don't buy it but don't spread negativity.
Total kit cost as far as I can tell is just under $5,000. So base model Ram City ($20,500) + kit ($5000) + roof rack and box ($600) = $26,100. Not bad, especially given the ease of installation. Compare this to just a small teardrop camper - $15,000 for a nice Little Guy, not counting the cost of the tow vehicle. Plus folks in the suburbs could park this in their driveway and not worry about grief from the neighbors.
Apparently these conversion kits could also be made to fit any cargo vans on the market. It is a great idea of making a camper van affordable quick and colorful. The Pro-master vehicles could sell your idea as well, and sell more vehicles for that matter.
here is another idea and is what I am doing, find a class of RVs that would fit your needs and as you get the money, restore the rig. I paid 5k for a 2001 jayco eagle 26ft travel trailer. I am already working on getting the unit updated, example for the heater, I will eventually replace the stock unit, but then I am going to put in 2 diesel bunk heaters, cost around 3k but then this trailer can be used year round. I would rather restore something then buy new
The Ford looks great, very sporty. Really smart. However it is very expensive and the Fiat / Pro Master still looks good and great space in cargo area.
My guess is this will be popular with folks who have HOA's that say no RV's! On a side note the whole controlling part of the HOA thing is something I despise.
Good point. I'm in an HOA community, but my '74 VW camper fits in the garage, so no issues with the HOA. There are a lot of compact RVs around today, but most are too tall to fit into a conventional garage.
Exactly. My condo garage won't take a lot of vans and RVs because they're too tall. This little camper is nice but's a little small and probably under powered. I once had a '71 VW camper but sold it because it couldn't get out of its own way from the small engine and I wanted A/C. VW won't export new campers to the USA so I'm looking at buying a mini van, pulling out the rear seats and throwing some camping gear inside.
when I was selling Fords in Vermont I sold 3 transit connects to 3 guys who said they were going to take them across country to of them stopped buy before they left and they had done great jobs you can go a lot further then what u see here!
Great Start to a Great Idea! Now, how about conversion kits for taller vans that would include stove, refridge, a/c, bathroom, etc? The modular idea is great too because the van could be converted in sections as time and money permit.
Too expensive for what it is. Also the sleeping area doesn't look too comfortable. Why not use the entire length of the cargo floor so taller individuals can stretch out. Better builds will come for this van. I like the snap on magnetic interior and the table. Good idea.
I drive all over the south west region filming events for my youtube channel. I rent a car and rent a hotel which ads up. I think I need a camper van!!!
why be critical. this is great for people who want a tidy set up and don't have carpentry skills. Also you are ignoring the wall insulation and the floors.
The kits are custom built specifically for the ProMaster City and 2500 and includes insulation as well as brackets and bolts that work with the original vehicle design. It's the simplicity of the kit design that makes it so versatile.
Do R/C! It's been out in Europe in various guises for what seems like a million years. The US is only really starting to get European vans now which is weird to us.
What does this have to do with VW/Westphalia? VW makes VW vans. Back in the day, Westphalia furnished the vans to make them into technically class B motorhomes. Now, VW does that themselves. But that's why you see Westphalia written on some oöder VW busses. In my opinion, a conversion kit has nothing to do with that.
Joe, Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions at info@wayfarervans.com. Chances are we will be running a special come January/February to include free shipping.
Very disappointed - based on your title I was expecting something akin to what Westfalia did with the VW, but I've seen better DIY conversions. But if WayfarerVans are making sales then more power to them.
this will fit inside any one of the boxes (hidden) www.amazon.com/Dometic-301097206-Portable-Toilet-Gallon/dp/B00194F0CE/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1549505440&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=dometic+portable+310+toilet&psc=1
You mentioned cooking inside. But without ventilation, that can easily kill people inside. This ad is not right. You don't want to kill anyone, do you?
affordable?? over 200 lbs plus your stuff adds a lot of weight for fuel expense !! plus during bad weather being in such tight space is so uncomfortable i know i have traveled in different size vehicles, 18 wheels 10wheels and 4 wheels in different dimensions believe me it gets cramp soon which is bad for your health !! skin gets rash or pimples , breathing, the less the better, after all we are nomads which means we travel light!!! keep it simple dont being the cookie cutter home into a cookie cutter van!!! be unique be yourself its about comfort comfort to me is not pick up this to get to that!!! i added the 3 drawer expresso color added strings to keep it from opening while moving sleeping in the back is hotter so i sleep in middle i only keep what i need close by rest stowed in back of van to be stealth not opening my door where everyone will know you live in it and get told to move i sleep on floor with mat i only buy food that can stay out of refrigerator like my spinach can last to next day plus i eat right amount no snacks is helping me loose weight gain muscle The idea is to save cause eventually none of us will be able to drive as we age, start thinking of putting the $$ to a build of perhaps a cooperative where everyone included can live in their tiny home on property when that time comes
....if you have the skills. I'm the person that hangs pictures by sight and there are 3 nail holes behind the pic because I messed up 😂. I don't want to be bothered with measuring, cutting, leveling, etc so this would be an option for me.
M'Liss A Skills, time, and proper tools to make this kit! Not many have all three. I love this kit. It’s also bolted down. People keep saying just buy a mattress and some old crates. Lol! I think they have not been camping or living in their van for very long. Stuff flies around when you drive. This guy figured it out. Their web site also has a recommended list for cooler, battery, lights, shower, and toilet! Kudos on him for his ideas.

It makes so much sense because most van life people don't have any skills

He found a niche in the market and he's making happen, good for him.
This is an awesome idea and an excellent design for quick easy installation. This is on my bucket list now! Handup Gloves Hi. It's been three years now...I wonder how the Dodge worked out for you and how your conversion kit held up over time.
I built a similar setup for my Ford E150 cargo van a few years ago for around $400. Takes me about an hour to install or remove between road trips.
$400!!! you are obviously ignoring floor and wall panels and just looking at the boxes. If you don't like it, don't buy it but don't spread negativity.
Brilliant design Nathan at an affordable price, I love it it’s so simple.👍🇬🇧
I was thinking of something like this. I need a van for multiple purposes. Work camper and personal.
Total kit cost as far as I can tell is just under $5,000. So base model Ram City ($20,500) + kit ($5000) + roof rack and box ($600) = $26,100. Not bad, especially given the ease of installation. EXACTLY!!!!
Great simple design with insulation in the floor and panels! I like it!

Please make a kit for the Toyota Sienna.

I want to get a little van now and do that
Ingenious. Nicely done!
What a fantastic idea! Wish I had come up with it!
Amazing 👌👍 makes me think I can really do this. Not mechanical person but this looks easy. I love it. Really cute and neat too just 😍
The Ford looks great, very sporty. Really smart. However it is very expensive and the Fiat / Pro Master still looks good and great space in cargo area.

You always go further with a Ford :D
l watch THs , conversions, & RVs all the time......currently im into van life....... and now lve crushed on lan here.....hes a BG
Great Start to a Great Idea! Now, how about conversion kits for taller vans that would include stove, refridge, a/c, bathroom, etc? The modular idea is great too because the van could be converted in sections as time and money permit.
Wayfair has kits for the promaster that's pretty basic and practical
Too expensive for what it is. Also the sleeping area doesn't look too comfortable. Why not use the entire length of the cargo floor so taller individuals can stretch out. Better builds will come for this van. I like the snap on magnetic interior and the table. Good idea.
Head over to our youtube page and watch our "wayfarer bed" video, the bed folded out does utilize the entire length of the van, which is about 6'7".
I'm thinking a hatch would work better for camping
I drive all over the south west region filming events for my youtube channel. I rent a car and rent a hotel which ads up. I think I need a camper van!!!
Did you get one?
Not much of a kit... some plywood boxes. Just throw in some plastic bins and a sleeping bag for a lot less cash...
why be critical. this is great for people who want a tidy set up and don't have carpentry skills. Also you are ignoring the wall insulation and the floors.
Ikr

So, let's see what you have made so far?
Igor Schmidlapp - that’s what I thought also - lol
I like these campers 👍🏾
Why can't we get the rear windows get extra seat and convert this into a Fiat Doblo?is it the same tax issue as the transit connect?
I hope this is a prototype.
Tray Muse I hope it's a hobby.
Table looked really warped
I work on this van every day :)
Is the Promaster City not a good van?
I prefer the Ford transit connect (2014 cargo only). Stealth Camper ftw.
That's a really cool idea. If I have a hankering to go camping, maybe I'll check them out.
This is kind of neat but I feel like those who need such a budget setup probably wouldn't be buying a van thats only been out for 2 years.
Yes but we've now seen some semi used 2015's go for only $15,000. So with a kit someone would be all in around $20,000.
Do R/C! It's been out in Europe in various guises for what seems like a million years. The US is only really starting to get European vans now which is weird to us.
Cool let’s do one for a Chrysler town and country lol
Very cool. Love it.
“IKEA” type furniture for van conversion to a camper. Good idea but expensive.
🌲🌝☘️
Looks very cool
Price is pretty steep. ?
They make for better "anything" other than corporate cargo vehicles, that's for damn sure!
I think that Fords small van looks so much better.
It does. The RAM is a bit less expensive and a tiny bit bigger. To each their own.
i would pay more for a better looking car.
You would also be paying for a vehicle that has a history of tranny issues. But you know being pretty on the outside is what really matters
TehDigz
It is.
The Ford vans do look nice, but I think the Ram Promaster City looks better.
I wonder which van Consumer Reports rates higher?
Hi Again Gorgeous!!!! l like the patterns & durable stuff!!
great glasses!
do the sliding door windows crack open on the promaster city?
Yes, up and down I understand
How much money to for whole set ?
CAN YOU MAKE FOR A 2020 FOED TRANSIT CONNENT
Love this
this one is nice
Very Nice!!
I’ll take “Things that rattle while driving” for $200 Alex....
A futon and couple of boxes will do just fine... and $2000 less.
So are these vans a 4 cyclinder?
Yes
What does this have to do with VW/Westphalia? VW makes VW vans. Back in the day, Westphalia furnished the vans to make them into technically class B motorhomes. Now, VW does that themselves. But that's why you see Westphalia written on some oöder VW busses. In my opinion, a conversion kit has nothing to do with that.
Awesome
Rather build it on my own for a super fraction of the price.
Man, I want one
Joe,
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions at info@wayfarervans.com.
Chances are we will be running a special come January/February to include free shipping.
Didn't show the bed setup.
Joe W.
Head over to our youtube channel and you can see how a bed is made.
Joe W I wouldn't buy anything from Dodge either
Joe W I would love to see a Mercedes metris version.
I think they are working on a Mercedes Metris version.
Very disappointed - based on your title I was expecting something akin to what Westfalia did with the VW, but I've seen better DIY conversions. But if WayfarerVans are making sales then more power to them.
Mad genius!
Whoa, he cleans up really well. In other videos he's all Shaggy without Scooby.
I like.
thatd be cool way cheaper than a rv
Heyyy ayyyy Ian ❤
Thats cool
Not worth the cost you could do the same with milk crates and a sheet of plywood.
This model does not impress me. Like the other guy said, it's just a few wooden boxes. I can do that myself.
Why would you cook on a wooden surface
The back looks like a KIA Soul.
The camping kit looks more like NOKIA.
Nope, more room. I have a KIA Soul and at 5'9" I'm too tall to put a bed in back.
Now, if only there were a toilet!

It's not meant to be an RV it's a van you can use to overnight in on a trip.
@@la_old_salt2241 This ol' gal still wants a toilet.
The Promaster city has a higher towage weight..looked at the ford transit..I like the dodge..this set up is too expensive..bed looks UN comfortable
You mentioned cooking inside. But without ventilation, that can easily kill people inside. This ad is not right. You don't want to kill anyone, do you?
You can get a ton of cheap ottomans with storage inside and arrange them how you want. Why would you waste this much money for this?!!!!
affordable?? over 200 lbs plus your stuff adds a lot of weight for fuel expense !!
plus during bad weather being in such tight space is so uncomfortable i know i have traveled in different size vehicles, 18 wheels 10wheels and 4 wheels in different dimensions believe me it gets cramp soon which is bad for your health !! skin gets rash or pimples , breathing, the less the better, after all we are nomads which means we travel light!!!
keep it simple dont being the cookie cutter home into a cookie cutter van!!!
be unique be yourself
its about comfort
comfort to me is not pick up this to get to that!!!
i added the 3 drawer expresso color added strings to keep it from opening while moving
sleeping in the back is hotter so i sleep in middle i only keep what i need close by rest stowed in back of van to be stealth not opening my door where everyone will know you live in it and get told to move
i sleep on floor with mat i only buy food that can stay out of refrigerator like my spinach can last to next day plus i eat right amount no snacks is helping me loose weight gain muscle
The idea is to save cause eventually none of us will be able to drive as we age, start thinking of putting the $$ to a build of perhaps a cooperative where everyone included can live in their tiny home on property when that time comes
No comment.
This company charges way to much for a few plywood boxes.....the insulation kit is nice, but everything else is so easily built at home,
....if you have the skills.
This is a Fiat Fiorino
It is actually the Doblo, but with the 2.4L / 9 speed driveline and a few other market specific changes.
1guyin10
You are right
It is the Doblo, very popular and practical...don't understand why we can't get the windows and the extra seat in the US
311Hanel They sell the passenger version of it. My local dealer has a red one sitting on the front row.

You need to lay off the French Fries.......
This car is a piece of crap, but the engine itself is great (the 2.4L version) !
I am thinking about converting mine into a camp car.
Is this a joke? Its plywood boxes😂
A Dodge Caravan would be much better.
lmfao how do you charge that much for particle board? scam!!
This looks so cheap
so poorly made.
Great idea but does the owner of the company had Down syndrome 🤔🤔🤔🤔little slow isn’t he
LOL...."camper"??
This guy selling this kit is a crook!
Why would you cook on a wooden surface
