It's something I've had similar insecurities about in the past, and just over a year ago I buzzed it all off. And it looked great! But after that I got on finasteride and did some lifestyle changes and it entirely came back and I now have mid-long hair that I love, but getting the buzz definitely helped me overcome the insecurity my hairline created. Lately I've been thinking more and more of getting a few wigs with hairstyles I could never have realistically had with my natural hair, even 5-6 years ago. It's a journey for sure.
Most men feel the exact same way you did. It's often very difficult to lose your hair, at least initially. It's losing a part of yourself. Something that identified you both physically and often mentally. I felt the same way---like no one would find me attractive, like I'm now an old man (started losing my hair in my mid 20s mind you) like I peaked in life and now it's a downward spiral towards my inevitable death. However talking to other balding/bald men and watching great videos like this made me feel less alone. And when I finally cut it all off, honestly I felt relief and like I was starting a new chapter in life. Thank you for making this video.

I started going bald at 16. I didn’t notice until all my classmates started pointing it out and making fun of me. That’s when I started to get really insecure. I spent tons of money on hair care products and nothing helped. I got more insecure by the day from comments by family and colleagues. I used to laugh them off but inside, I felt so humiliated. As I got older, I always dreamed of having the cool styled hair that guys have these days, but with my thinning hair and receding hair line I knew it was never going to happen. I then decided to get a hair transplant which was my last resort and got really excited about having a full head of hair again. When I had my consultation, the dr said I’ve lost too much hair to qualify for a transplant. I was so upset and always got jealous of other peoples hair. Since quarantine began, I made the decision to shave my head completely. I’m a lot happier and save a lot of money now. I don’t think people understand how important a guys hair is for his self esteem. Eventually you will come to terms with it and realise that hair is just hair and that’s one less thing to worry about.

I was mortified when my hair started to fall out. Naturally, some people had to point it out as if I didn’t already know. one day I saw a teenage girl with Down syndrome slip in the snow and fall. And her wig fell off revealing that she had no hair. After that , I never minded my situation so much anymore.

I asked my mom’s boyfriend yesterday if he’d ever grow his hair out to his shoulders again, and he told me he couldn’t and is balding. I saw him tearing up and getting very emotional about it- you’re not alone. I’m 28, and I started losing my hair at about 20, which felt super early. I cut it all off at around 25, because I didn’t want to waste the rest of my 20s worrying about a vanity issue which I had 0 control over. And much like yourself, people really didn’t make much of a deal out of it.

The timing of this video couldn't be more perfect for me . I'm a girl struggling with hair loss for the past 7 months.I've finally decided to shave my head in a few days.I had been holding back on doing this and I didn't know why, trying different types of remedies 🤣.I now realize that it wasn't the hair I'm holding on to , but my image in society and I'd never want to admit it,but I know I wouldn't be considered as attractive anymore.This video helped me put things in perspective , and be honest with myself.Thank you ,love your content 😁
I'm balding. I know it's different as a man to some extent, but my hair was always long and beautiful with volume. My identity did have to change when I started losing my hair. We're gonna be stronger better people for it. Also a bald girl does not bother me. It's a whole package deal, yknow? So let's just focus on finding those decent people. If you already have a guy, focus on the joy he brings you.

Every man has this insecurity. all this perceptions about beauty are deeply ingrained in our minds. It's hard to let go about it. You are right, most people don't notice a receiding hairline at other people...

Dude, WHAT?!?! You have a full head of hair! Believe me, you have enough hair to be going for at least another decade without looking like you're balding at all.
I have very similar hairline and hair in general to yours. In my early and mid twenties, I was also obsessed over the idea of losing hair. I was freaking out over the amount of hair falling off my head, I though my hairline is receding and that I'm getting a bald spot. With time I just stopped worrying about it. Fast forward almost 10 years, my hairline is still exactly the same and no bald spot.
When you're obsessing over a fear, your mind will play tricks on you. Trust me, you have great hair, and you'll have it for a while. Start shaving it when it is obviously thinning to the outside observer, if that point ever comes..
Hey Nathan! I am an indian teen girl and i think i'm going bald (my paternal grandma, aunt, uncle, grandaunt, dad literally everyone is bald so i guess its genetic). Long luscious shiny thick hair is considered a BIG part of feminine beauty here in india. I have never been super concerned but yeah i have felt kinda insecure at times. I just turned 25 and did the same last week. It's really not that big of a deal and you get used to it way faster than you'd think.
Plus, since showering goes a lot faster, I like my water bill a little more now.

I love how positive he's become throughout the video about this change. Honestly, I love Nathaniel both with and without hair on his head, simply because I've started watching his videos because of what he was saying, not how he was looking. Honestly his hair looks great to begin with. It's only a bit of receding hairline on the sides which is not a big deal. Perhaps he did become too obsessive about it at one point, but I'm glad he got the courage to just shave his head and accept it.
Agree. The falling it's just starting and personally I feel he obsessed too much too soon about it. Regardless, it's clear that he's losing his hair but at the end it's great that he took the value to deal with the situation instead of denying it and try to hide it.
@@jphzazueta I think he wanted to shave his head now rather than later just to be able to prove it to himself that it doesn't really matter if he ends up going bald in the future. That way he isn't worrying about it and having unnecessary anxiety over it for years until he's finally bald.
I was balding in my 20's and shaved my head at 26 and have now been bald for 25 years. The best thing I ever did. Its a shock at first because you and others are use to seeing you with hair but after a while people couldn't even imagine me with hair. Love Your content.
as someone who is quite clearly balding in my late puberty, this is super therapeutic. I cant stress enough how many times ive cried out of desesperation, because my hair is very rapidly falling, but seeing you embrace it so much makes me think its just not worth it to stress about it.

As a bald woman... I get it. When my hair was falling out, finally shaving my head 1 year after beginning to bald at 20 was the most in control I felt in the whole uncontrollable process of balding I experienced. I have alopecia universalis (autoimmune baldness, no other effects but baldness) so it is a little bit different than male or female patterned baldness but it’s young balding all the same. Also as a note both men and women experience natural baldness both autoimmune and age generated baldness like you. Great post.
I want to add that yes balding is an internal struggle but it’s also a social struggle. I’ve found people find you beautiful if your other features and personality are beautiful. I have the same level of love, attraction and support as pre-balding me.

Wow! My hair has been receding most of my 20s, but I've been able to use products to slow it down and to help it look fuller. I've watched your videos before being JEALOUS of your hair!! It's certainly telling, I think, about the way we perceive ourselves vs how others perceive us. I probably should have shaved mine a couple years ago, and you still have another few years if you want. But I just want to thank you for this video. It really helped me. I am determined to lose weight before I shave it, though. I'll be watching this again later this year. Thanks for sharing your insecurities and vulnerabilities.

I'm 21 and went bald at 20. You become obsessed with your hair and have to delete 30 photos on your phone of your hairline, trying to persuade yourself its not that bad.
You get called baldy this and baldy that. Everyone laughs and you feel shit. However, it just becomes who you are and there's nothing you can do about it. Some women make comments and some don't, some men do, some don't. At the end of the day, I've learned at 21, it's about someone's spark, personality and stuff, not their looks.
Also, at this age, you realise you also have to gain a personality as well. You can't just rely on your looks and muscles.
Anyone thinking about it, do it. You'll see people in a new light and if (unlike me) your hair hasn't thinned too much, you can always grow it back!

Man, your hair loss is light in comparison to some men. I’m 26 & also preparing myself to shave my head. I still have a decent amount of hair but I’ve noticed within the last 6 years how drastically my hair has thinned out near the front & back of my head. Your receding hairline is natural as well as some of your hair loss. It’s good that you’re mentally preparing yourself for when the time actually comes but it seems like you’re head is still rather full of hair. Regardless of that, I greatly appreciate the overall message of your video. We’re too attached to our appearance & that creates more suffering in our lives. It’s all ego. Once we become detached from our image, that’s when we can begin living more fulfilled lives, free from our superficial suffering. Our body’s do not define our true selves. Right? I started balding when I was 19 and have treated it with minoxidil for a decade. I really notice hair, as a result of my own past insecurities. This guy doesn’t seem to be balding. Sure his hairline may be receding, as is the case with the large majority of men in their 20’s, but his hair is just about as dense on top as it is on the sides. So he may bald eventually, but he isn’t showing signs of it now. Hair falling out is not necessarily an indication of balding. People with super thick hair have hair fall out all the time because they have so much of it and their body will produce replacements.
2 years of shaving my head after I noticed my hair was thinning out. People would say they don’t notice it but it would take so much mental energy. It’s honestly so much better to just get rid of it instead of waiting for the inevitable. I do miss long hair but I do not miss that distress!

As a woman who has struggled with hair lost for the last 4 years, I can say that it is so hard to accept the fact that your appearence is not perfect enough to fit in with the contemporary society where the way how you look plays a tremendous role. All of us need to be more tolerable to things that we cannot control.

Yo I felt this bro. I’ve spent so long being indescribably miserable about my hair loss. For years. Now I can’t even leave the house and it’s all for nothing because it’s not like I’m hiding anything anymore. I wish I shaved my head when I was where you are where it can still grow back. But now I need to do it but I still feel like I can’t. Thank you for inspiring me to though.
I’ve given so much of myself and lost so much of myself to this demon of insecurity that I don’t even know what it would be like to let go of that or how to.

True, but around the age of 20-24 its hardly anyones type. Its increases with age. However that doesnt make it is easier for people balding young

I've always fallen in love with balding men. Always. And they've always been damned intelligent.
I rarely write comments on UA-cam due to privacy issues, but I felt like I needed to say this. Going bald was never a question of if but a question of when. People would make fun of my receding hairline. It's a part of me I've tried to run away from. I just entered my 20's and recently decided to shave my head. A friend of mine, who is also bald like me, took the pleasure of shaving my head. He did a damn good job shaving my head, and more importantly, get me to accept my new look. I've been slowly learning the value of self-acceptance ever since.
Wouldn't it be nice to have hair? Of course. We all long to meet whatever standard and archetype society asks us to fulfill. Some of have a choice on how get that 'perfect' look. Unfortunately, that's never a choice for some of us. Our only choice is how to be authentic and unapologetic of ourselves to anyone, anywhere. For all my dudes out there thinning out, shaving your head is absolutely the best way to embrace that part of your identity and make the best out of the situation. I know I am grateful for learning this so early.
Shaving was your solution and mine too but it's definitely not the perfect solution and most important: it's not for everyone. Each one of us deals with their issues in our own way and I'd never say covering your baldness with a wig or a tattoo or whatever is not a good idea. I can only say it doesn't work for me.
I completely agree with you. Shaving, wearing a wig, and hair transplant are all different ways of dealing with hair loss. Thank you for making the distinction.
Wow, I’ve been struggling with this for months. Some of these same thoughts have popped in my head of “I won’t be attractive” for example. Thanks for your comment, I think I’ve got the courage to finally shave and deal with it
I had to come to terms with balding when i was 17 waking up to a pillow covered in hair, i shaved shortly after i turned 18 and it is so relieving. Easily one of the best choices i've made for sure.
I’m a 23 year old male and have suffered from Alopecia, where all my scalp hair falls out, for the last 4 years. I too am trying to accept my self image as a young bald man, knowing it is unusual to most, and it is so refreshing to see someone deal with and share openly something similar to me and at the same age. The timing couldn’t be any better for a video like this. I’ve had to to deal with the obsession and feelings of shame that come with it over the years and it’s only gotten worse. My self esteem is so heavily impacted by my hair loss, it’s honestly just sad. I haven’t gone outside without wearing a hat in years and over the quarantine I’ve been growing it out to see how it would look like but now I’m losing so much hair every day it is just depressing and makes me feel like I’m sick. I’ve watched several videos on shaving your head for the first time in the past few weeks and I’m starting to prepare myself for it. I guess that’s it, no more running away. Thanks for doing a video on this and props to you for being so open about it.

I’m only 22 and I did this during the pandemic. My hairline started receding for me when I was 20!! 💀 I shaved my head, it was one of the first and biggest physical changes that I have ever made for myself and it has made me more confident. Thank you so much for making this video and discussing this topic. It feels good to hear that other men in the world are dealing with a similar issue.

Amazing video man. Your content always inspires me to go after some of my own insecurities and create.
I literally shaved my head about 3 days ago for the same reasons.
I knew i'd soon go bald and spent so much time trying to hide it, feeling insecure about it, to the point I felt just like that wasn't me anymore, but a look I borrowed and had to give back at some point.
So yeah, I decided I'd better spend my energies on other things, stop worrying and start getting used to what i'll look like for most of my life.
If you haven't got this problem, it's kind of heavy, psychologically speaking, I even got to a point where i felt depressed for it, tried so hard to solve it... but with genetics there's very few you can do, without side effects and spending a lot nowadays.
Stay strong guys, that's just a little tiny thing compared to life, don't worry too much about it, and if you do... I'd suggest you to shave yourself. It does help.

I went through the exact same thing a few years ago. Felt insecure, got sick of worrying, decided to shave my head, and that fear was dissolved.
I cant describe it any differently than you: Liberating.
Free from fear, from worry, from seeing your hair fall out in the sink. Free from late nights on the internet trying to find a solution. Free from insecurity on a windy day. Simply free.
What surprised me when I shaved was how much of our identity we put into out hair. When it was gone, all I had to express myself was my face and my expressions and I learned that how I expressed myself to others through my reactions was much more valuable than how my hair looked.
Just like you now, I'm enjoying what I've still got. My hair is what it is and I no longer let it define me. I am no longer afraid of what will inevitably come.

I did the same thing last October.
I was not feeling very comfortable managing my curly hair and also, was not able to get a proper haircut due to lockdown...
Also, the weather was making my hair fall more than normal.
I realised some things after taking that decision:
1. My look should not define my confidence and my character.
2. It's always better to accept yourself. I do not have to follow others. I am what I am.
3. No one.... no one cares about how I (or anyone else) looks. Everyone cares about themselves (because of the spotlight effect).
That decision definitely changed my mindset and increased my self confidence.
WTF you still have a good amount of hair. It just looks like a mature hairline at this point
Tbh if it's all falling out and you can tell it's happening, see the hair everywhere...that's not enjoyable

Nate...Good for you! Your realization that balding is no big deal, and people don't really care is profound. I spent my first 29-years on Earth worrying about my hair. As I started puberty in the early '60s, my teens were all about cultivating a bigger and bigger 'fro. With the help of a good friend who became my barber, after several years we had gotten me a respectable-sized Afro. But by that time, the style was waning. To mark my 30th birthday, I had him shave my head. Voila...! For the first time ever, I saw (...REALLY saw) my face, eyes, smile. 30-years on, I still wear my hair that way.
Your current hairline is basically my natural hairline without hairloss. Depending on how fast you lose more I think you could still have longer hairstyles for a few years. Especially if you get the proteins and vitamins you need for healthy hair.

And you have sparked an idea in me. I am a female aged 38 and after 12 months in lockdown, I have been cutting my own hair. It looked alright for the first few cuts but then last week I managed to do a pretty awful job. The only thing I knew what to do was cut more off... that happened another three times until my hair was very short and looked not very good 😆
I walked into the kitchen and my mum laughed so hard, as did I.
I felt bad about it for about 20 minutes, looking at myself in the mirror and titivating my hair trying to make it look better. Then I realised I am still the same person. I still have the same personality, humour and life goals, just now I had less keratin protein on top of my skin covered skull.
I too felt liberated by the experience. Your video has made me consider cutting all my hair off to see what I can take from the experience.
I feel like the experiment would be different for a woman.... but maybe not.
My hair experience taught me to let go of the ego.

I’m 24 and I’m starting to get grey hair. I’ve spent a lot of energy being worried about appearance, and scared about what this means. I related a lot to the inevitable death approaching scenario. While I’m not about to shave my head, this has truly helped me. It just feels good to know other young people have the same fears, or worries, and it’s inspiring to see you not let them control you and actually make something positive from it. I love your channel, your doing something really great here.

UPDTE: I decided to shave my beard into a bit of a mustache and I LOVE IT. People have even commented on it and how it "works". Regardless if they actually like it doesnt matter, what matters is how this video has given me confidence.
