Hi.... i have a 94 k1500 with over 238k miles on it I've owned it for 20 years and just replaced every brake component in my truck except the front brake cable.. i bought new brake lines preformed and it went together real nice j always like to get some tips on you tube.. so thanks for your videos..
I did pretty much the same project to this truck. (among other projects) Had a few issues along the way. We have many more videos about this truck that might interest you as well. See this playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLVsdJzatTm_VLjk-TM6KIqExDrJF5L-bX.html
Thanks! You are right this is really hard to find! Unfortunately I couldn't see where the 3 cables came together. I am Missing my Cales completely and trying to piece it all back together
Nice video man! Thanks for posting it up! Also, your truck is soooooo clean man, that things almost perfect! Ive had a handfull of 88-94 chevys and not one single truck of mine has ever had the e coat on the frame still. Nor have any of my trucks had rockers or qtr panels. Damn ohio rust!
Just got done doing the rear brakes on my 95 k1500. I noticed the left rear parking brake is nearly fully applied with the parking brake released. The right side is fully relaxed like it should be. How do you adjust the left side? This is the side with the solid cable.
Check the backing plates of your rear brakes. If they are heavily worn, replace them. This caused one of my brakes to drag and overheat. You should be able to adjust each brake cable independently though.
Maybe you might have some tips for me, I have been struggling to keep the equilizer from breaking apart upon applying the parking brake, all cables are new, nothing bound up, I installed the equilizer and tightened up the slack in the cable, and tested the brake and the cable that rests against the front of the equilizer pulled right through, bending the equilizer, this has happened a few times already and I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, unless the dorman part is just junk and maybe I should try the acdelco version?
I wouldn't doubt it if the aftermarket piece is crap. Make sure nothing is binding or sticking relating to the cable and related parts. And you might have it adjusted too tight. Make sure the rear wheels turn fairly freely when the E Brake is off. I found there is a fine line between adjusted properly and not.
@@HorsepowerHouse from my understanding, correctly routing the cables, adjusting the rear drums and then tightening up the slack was what I was told, I can't believe I put a new clutch in this truck myself and can't get the stupid parking brake working right hahaha
@@twenglish1 I just remember it was rather tricky to get the emergency brake set properly. In fact mine is still not set perfectly. And I have put a couple of thousand miles on it save these videos. But whatever. Is an automatic transmission. So it's not going anywhere.
@@HorsepowerHouse I had the brake working good for a while but then the link between the front and rear cable broke, and had to mess with the adjustment to get the new link in, and it was good for a month or so and the equilizer came apart, nut pulled out the back of it, and I can't seem to get the new one to not be ripped apart
Can tell me we're you order your parts for truck I have a 96 silverodo nreplacong rear end need passenger side naked cable and that adjuster were the to cable connect
I sold this truck a couple of years ago. You can get parts pretty much anywhere for these though. Your local autoparts store, eBay, Amazon, Rock Auto, just make sure you know the wheelbase length, and if you have a heavy-duty drivetrain or not.
I figured it out, I was wondering why the connector didn't fit, watched your video again, and noticed that the brake cables weren't routed properly through the holes, leaving me a huge mess. Everything on this 1000 dollar truck has been an experience though. The guy who had it before me did some, shall we say, creative things to it. But for 1000 dollars and some good videos and a service manual, I've brought a truck that wasn't running back to life and now it's almost complete. Gonna start using the lmctruck website you pointed at and trick this puppy out! Thanks again, Horsepower House!

Gran vídeo, buena explicación, es real nadie hace videos de este problema 💯👌saludos de MTY México 🇲🇽

Agreed....the only part I came looking for and it seems he cobbled something together as he also couldn't figure it out.

Life saver!
The best parts diagram (for ANYTHING on this truck) I found here media.lmctruck.com/pdf/CD/cdComplete.pdf (Page 119 for parking brake info)
Oh man SUPER HELPFUL!
That helped, thanks!
Same truck. My problem is that the equalizer, or the right cable seems to be 4in too short. Not sure what to do at this point
Is it the stock cable? Might be for a shortbed truck or flairside instead of long bed? Doublecheck the routing of the cable?
If you are having problem with rear drum brakes getting hot, locking up, not disengaging, see this video ua-cam.com/video/6GwnM-kYlkQ/v-deo.html

@@twenglish1 I hear ya. I would try a heavier duty equalizer. Maybe NAPA Auto Parts. I can't recall where I got mine though...

Where'd you buy the cable, I'm currently looking for one and all the shops don't carry them anymore
Most auto parts stores can get it. Make sure you know your bed length and if your drivetrain is Heavy Duty or not.
See description above for more tips and notes.
On the equalizer, how did you get the front cable attached to the equalizer? My end is too small
BEND IT!
Try a different equalizer.
