Aerial video of the destruction brought by Hurricane Harvey overnight. Many homes and businesses suffered major to total destruction due to the high winds.

I think the media is focusing on further inland--this was by the ocean, where the storm surge caused major damage. The average building that didn't get hit by flooding is probably going to be looking at torn siding, roof shingles, broken windows, and so on.

Mike Let it go Mike. She obviously has never lived in the path of a hurricane. Nothing at all moves for hours or even days until the winds fall to a safe level. Until then no emergency aid, rebuilding or TV cameras begin. Everyone is stuck in a safe place (hopefully). No 911, no electricity, no a/c, refridgerators, hot water heaters, cell phone service, internet, nothing. People who haven't experienced the total loss of all services and governance will never understand. You can tell who they are because they're the first to point fingers at people with no way to help if they wanted.

Not for broadcast... this is more in depth images we're seeing than our local news channel are showing us, thank you, it makes us more empathetic to the people in Texas. I live in florida and I've seen my share of hurricanes, I didn't realize it was that bad.

Please if you can, use your drone to video the area just around cape Valero, club lake drive. All of those roads are blocked. Many of us have our homes and livestock still there. port A sustained major damage. 132 mph winds. trailer park of 100 was total loss.
Was it mobile homes or travel trailers. I am at a total loss why anybody that isn't incapacitated would leave an Rv or a running vehicle in the path of a Hurricane in a low lying area or on a beach front. If i was an insurance company I would not pay. Sounds like insurance fraud to me.
I truly hope that the people that own these homes left in time. Thank you for providing this overview.

Erin, these folks had only 1.5 days notice, to get stuff boarded up, get out or get prepared. No, of course they did not get "valuables" out. This storm went from Tropical Storm to Cat 4 in about 36 hours and made landfall.

Toni Wilson Gibson. Has prayer helped you in any way. People are not children who look for God to make up for their mistakes. If God exists he would want his children to behave in a Godly way. I see few people respecting and loving other human and animal beings. They all want more "stuff" for themselves and are unhappy with the creation "God" gave them their body. Nice series of vids, man. Great examples of structures built with high wind specs compared to those where people took the less expensive route when building. And some that just look like a few tornados might have been involved.
You need to pull that ***Not For Broadcast*** you are doing a disservice to Texas residents of the magnitude of Harvey and what is yet to come and to seek shelter..This needs to air everywhere

Any chance of flying over "Stevie Lews BBQ and RV park" on 35 toward the bridge? The park shown at 2:12 looks like the one across the road. We were unable to get our camper out of there in time :( Won't be able to make it down until next weekend. Thanks for sharing.

You know I am not a big fan of insurance companies but I would be highly suspicious of anybody who would leave a damn vehicle or an rv in the path of a Hurricane. News flash they have wheels and you know it is coming for days.They don't just sneak up on you. Plain insurance scam to me.

It's amazing to see how three houses next to each other, one in the middle survives to two at each side completely destroyed. How is that possible?
BlueCat Blu It's vital to keep the wind out of the house. One broken window or door blown open can cause a chain reaction of small failures to a structure. Also, newer homes were built to better hurricane standards. One may be a year old, the destroyed one 30 years old. $2 hurricane straps can make all the difference.

At 4:18 you have a distance shot of the small line of docks to the North of the dry stack. I have a sail boat on the next to the last dock from the perspective of the 4:18 shot. Do you have a better or direct overhead view of those docks? Thank you and be careful out there.
Drone broadcast is great. you can learn a lot surveying the destruction from the air.

At :35 your drone starts to turn to the left. There is a line of docks there. Do you still have the footage for that line of docks. A number of us are worried about our boats. Thank you.

I remember the damage in Tampa many years ago was mostly caused by tornados. All it took was for one to break apart a building then the regular 120 mile per hour wind tossed that building into another and into another. Maybe that is why the damage paths look like lines here. Lots of other homes and buildings built the same way as those trashed seem to be standing. It is one thing to stand out in 130 MPH wind and rain, it is another to be smashed by a tree flying at 90mph.

The first shot I don't know what's wrong with the video but to me it looked like a teary eye looking at the devestaion.and at 1.35 what amazed me that the right and left houses were destroyed but in the middle still standing.i prefer looking at your videos with so much information despite no words than news channel that talks a lot but show little.

Some of the localized damage seems to be from tornadoes, as houses around the lines of destruction seem structurally intact.

They're beach houses. You can't make them too heavy.
Also, there are photos of brick structures that are destroyed.
There were brick buildings destroyed, and there are also plenty of wood frame houses that did well. Wood frame construction done correctly can withstand tremendous wind loads as long as all windows are boarded up and the plywood sheathing is fastened correctly to the roof and wall joists.

Actually the construction is quite the opposite. Here in Florida (as one example), the vast majority of the homes are cinderblock. Wood walls are often reserved for interior use. We also have shingles rated for high winds.
Beach houses are notoriously unsafe. The ground in which they are built is not able to support something made of mostly brick or concrete. It's not really any surprised their lightweight composition was wiped out.
Thanks for showing looters the aerial view. Now they have a good look on where the goodies are.

why do people in the USA not build more resistant houses? I mean, those houses have such thin walls it's no wonder they come apart. In other countries houses are built with ~30 cm (~12 inch) walls of reinforced concrete and a foundation in the ground. I'm very sorry for those who lost their homes.

I have poured over every aerial shot of Rockport and found nothing yet. Seems your community is too far north. If it consoles you, the media focus on the worst damage, after all they want to portray the devastation as it sells stories in the news. A lot of prefab homes are damaged but together. I believe that this is f1 tornado damage when one street is fine and the next is flattened. My boyhood home is a block from the beach and does not appear to have even a scratch. I hope they got lucky too :)

I am shocked at how many Mobile Homes there are in this area. They are not built for 130+ winds, why would people put MH's there. I realize some of these are second/vacation homes but still.
