absolutely love the look of concrete counters!! I'm buying a house at the moment and planning on microtopping the existing laminate counters for a low-budget makeover. I truly hope they turn out looking even a fraction as good as these!!!
Congratulations on an outstanding makeover. Your counter tops and backsplash are excellent - you should be really proud of yourself. The end result is so worth all your planning and hard work 👏👏👏
Very cool!! I love the channel. I'm a totally diy-er lol. Not sure how to say that. But I work on everything in my life myself. Lawn mower stops working. I fix it, car acts up, I fix it. Faucet starts leaking, I fix it, ceiling fan stops running, I replace, or fix it! I think you get the point. I've also spent the last 5 or 6 years building out my woodworking shop. Anyhow I love the kitchen. The counters are amazing! And the backsplash turned out pretty cool as well. With all that said, if it was my kitchen I would have done a dark grey, almost black backsplash. But it makes be happy to hear how excited you where with the outcome! So well done! Very cool, awesome, amazing!! Keep up the great work my friend! (Sorry, my friend is something I say to everyone. Not saying I know you, or that we are friends or anything like that!) Lol take care.
Your hard work really shows in the results. I wish I had that kind of drive. The "craftsmen" in my kitchen cut a relief into the drywall in order to fit the countertop. Caulked over it to hide the cut out. They did this because they didn't have the 90 degree. perpendicular wall correct. It was more like 85 degrees on the inside.
When you cut your cabinet, use a razor knife and cut your line, then make sure to use a sharp fine tooth blade if you must use a jigsaw. Cutting the line will help prevent the wood from chipping out and make the cut much better.
Melissa, not only do I love all of your projects so much I actually think about wanting to do a couple of them 😛, but I think it’s so cute that the way you say “caulk” is misinterpreted by the closed captioning as “coke”! Guess it’s not used to your accent!
I’m obsessed and currently recreating this in an Airbnb. Just wanted to know how the sealer held up with oil?? Also any cracks or chips with the topping??
Great job.. I like the concept of the concrete idea for the counter top .. not to sure about the backslash 🤔. The kitchen is really coming along.. great job
I actually think the video doesn't quite do the backsplash justice - it looks really great in person! We'll see if it pops more when everything else is put together.
@@norcross26 this product doesn't need it at all. The polymers in the concrete act like metal fibers that hold the concrete together giving it crazy strength. You can literally drive a car on this stuff without it cracking and it can span 6 feet unsupported without issue. So it's really because the product itself is formulated in such a way no metal rebar or mesh is required.
Looks fantastic. Good job. Did you use a silicone caulking around the base of the hutch after you finished applying the sealant to the countertop? Thanks for Sharing. Stay Safe. Stay Healthy.
Hi! Loving the kitchen! I am wondering how the concrete is holding up after couple of months ? Are the stains easy to remove ? Do you think the concrete finish would work over an existing granite counter top ? Thanks :)
If you would have used wax on your mold you would of had any problems removing those edge pieces. Also you used to reinforcement in your form. The fact it didn’t break when you moved it and crushed someones foot is a miracle. Not to mention if your cabinets are perfectly level eventually those tops will crack guaranteed.
Question: because you put the aesthetic layer of concrete on the vertical drywall (for backsplash) and the horizontal surface (counter) and edges... Is it possible to use a different base for the counter? Meaning, rather than casting concrete, since it's visually going to be covered anyway, can the counter be constructed out of something else? Pros and cons? Thanks for the video! I'm going to be constructing a kitchen for my basement apartment and I love the idea of concrete countertops. I was looking at Z Countertop Solutions, which is a pour-in-place product. But I am curious about the thin layer troweling option you did.
Yes so you can apply the thin layer of MicroTek concrete topping over any stable substrate. I chose concrete because then I didn't need to put the waterproofing membrane or any kind of primer on the substrate. Concrete that isn't sealed absorbed the MicroTek layer so I could just keep working. You should definitely look into it and you can reach out to diyconcrete.com with your specific questions because they are beyond helpful!! ♥️
Well, my sheetrock wasn't very flat actually and I was able to build on it a bit and make it flatter. The counter was completely flat, but I also think a small amount of variation there wouldn't be a problem. You can build this product up to just less than 1/8" thickness so it depends on application.
Nope these counters have polymers that act like metal mesh (stronger actually) to hold it together and give it incredible strength. That's part of why these concrete counters are more DIY friendly than most options.
With the stuck foam, could have opened all the windows and doors and with the little pieces still stuck in concrete that were hard to remove burned it out with a torch. Seen this done a few times. Great video.
I don’t like how the two slabs are not formally joined, like with epoxy as would be done with stone. That joint is a crack waiting to happen. Also, the slabs should have been attached to the cabinets, not just sit there.
I admire the way you do all this manual labor without ever getting your hands or clothes dirty. It's like magic!
WOW, the sink really sets everything off perfectly... Love it...!
All the colors blend together. It has a nice soothing, rustic feel.
Very nice look. Using the hutch was genius.
Melissa - You did an amazing job with the counter and backsplash! You should be happy with the finished product!
I love how the counters turned out!
Absolutely gorgeous. I love the look of treated concrete and the color of this is so perfect!

Fantastic job! The counters and back splash are beautiful. The hutch was a fantastic idea!
Man that is so cool looking
Those counters are beautiful!
Congratulations on an outstanding makeover. Your counter tops and backsplash are excellent - you should be really proud of yourself. The end result is so worth all your planning and hard work 👏👏👏
I love that black kitchen sink! I also did my own concrete countertops and love them!

Yes exactly. When the walls are wonky the counter can't fit
The kitchen looks fantastic!
Beautiful. Well presented.
Love the countertops and wall. But I especially love that you’re using that hutch in the design!
Me too! It REALLY adds a lot to the kitchen.
Wooo! I finally made it into a Welcome to the Woods video! ;) Great job, Missy! Looks great. Your hardwork and eye for asthetics makes magic happen.
Ohhh yeah!
Oh right on ! Great video thanks for sharing.
I really like that look
I love it. Your vision and skills always impress.
Love love love this!!
Nice job young lady!
Love the look of concrete. 👌
I love the concrete finish. It almost looks like granite on camera.
When you cut your cabinet, use a razor knife and cut your line, then make sure to use a sharp fine tooth blade if you must use a jigsaw. Cutting the line will help prevent the wood from chipping out and make the cut much better.
Looks awesome. Great explanation of the process.
Beautiful!
Beautiful 😍
Great job!
Amazing!
This girl could out-Martha, Martha Steward head to head.

Beautiful job. How is the concrete backsplash holding up? Does it stain easy or show water spots?
I’m obsessed and currently recreating this in an Airbnb. Just wanted to know how the sealer held up with oil?? Also any cracks or chips with the topping??
Oh wow.......wowowowowowowow!!!!!

@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog very true. Curious why no wire mesh in the concrete I know its thin but the wire helps correct.. thats what I've been told

I wish you had shown his you dealt with the seem between the two pieces of concrete counter that you butted together.

Great work! Can this be done on floors?
Bravo.
You impress me
Epic
Great video! What was the concrete you used again? You mentioned where you got it from but need the name of product please thank you!
You made it look easy. I would screw it up…BAD!
What's the Hardness and how does it handle heat and sharp metal objects? Did you do a scratch test?

I want a concrete counter, are you available next week? Ha. Maybe one day I'll be bold enough to try it
Love it all! What color are those cabinets?
I refinished them in the color Olive by Behr paint
Lit 🔥
You should wet sand concrete much less dust and better finish.
wasn't there a seam between the concrete pieces on the L? or maybe i missed it. Great job!
There is! The finishing product covers it up.

the only thing stopping me from getting all these things done is money. lol

Great job 👍😎🐕🦺
Is it really DIY if you have factory reps helping in the process?
It really is an easy DIY project...we just like working with Melissa!!!
Your videos are very interesting, if only you could use less time lapse e more montage... Cheers.
👍😘🤗
good girl
Jealous. Want to do a concrete counter
Nice tip, Abe, not for me, though.
How? What? Where do you even know how to start. God I'm such a noob
This is a lot of work. Including your labor, materials, the mess you could have just paid for granite or marble countertops. 😂
Boring
